Mississippiensis

Reproduction of Alligators

alligator eggs is approximately 65 days. During this time the female alligator stays on the alert to guard.

• Also the temperature of the nest decides the sex of the offspring between 90 and 93 degrees Fahrenheit will produce males and anything below or above that will produce females.

Females• They are on guard 24/7• Sometimes going

without food for mouths

• Protecting against females, males, lizareds,snakes,and any type of dog or bird that will try and get at the eggs

Offspring

• The offspring once hatched will stay close to its mother for a year .

Problems?!?!• Alligators don’t have many

genetic problems they do however have people problems the American alligators in the 1940s where nearly wiped out by over hunting and today there numbers are up

• Also flooding has a major impacted during the breeding season many of the eggs could drowned if the female doesn't move the nest far up the bank .

• Last some females are killed during the act of mating which can lead to problems.
