Byford Childcare Centre A warm, secure, family orientated service, allowing your child to

grow to their fullest potential. Be Assured your child’s best interests are always No. 1.

From the Office……. Wow!! What a busy couple of months we have had, who can believe we are nearly in June, the time is flying by.

We would like to encourage all parents to read the newsletters that are emailed as it may also contain important information in relation to policy changes, fees, children’s curriculum, family participation, and most importantly regulation and legislation changes in the children services industry. The newsletter is also a great way to keep up with events within the centre as well as the community. If you have any suggestions of what you might like to see in the newsletter, please let us know.

Effective as of the 3rd July 2017 there will be a fee increase. The fee increase is due to the rising costs in insurances, amenities, staff wages, general inflation and other expenses. We are in the process of assessing what this increase will be and will pass the information onto you all as soon as possible. To plan for those families who reach CCR cap by the end of the next financial year, we invite you to speak to Jodi or Nadene in regards to putting in place a payment plan to help budget for the full financial year.

Just a reminder, if your child is going to be absent for any session can you please contact the centre and let us know. This is especially necessary if we are collecting your child from school as we have 6 schools to pick up from on a tight schedule.

We hope you have an amazing week and a fantastic long weekend.

We wish to extend a warm welcome to all our new children and families !

We are delighted your family has selected our centre to be responsible for the early learning and care of your children.

We trust that our time together will be a positive experience for all.

Byford Glades Community Garden Byford Childcare Centre now have their own Garden Bed within the Byford Glades Community Garden on Mead St in

Byford.

This Garden Bed will bring lots of learn and fun opportunities for the children, educators and families.

The children will be involved in planting and tending to the garden bed throughout the year. Children will have the opportunity to learn more about how to grow plants, composting, tending to worm farms and much more.

We are still currently in the planning stages, working out which plants grow better in winter, what we need for the plants to grow and creating a sculpture to have in our garden.

We would love to have any ideas or input from family for this, as well as encourage you to visit our Garden Bed with your children so they can show you what they have been up to.

If you would like further information about the Community Garden, please see Sharn or Jodi.

We extend a warm welcome to all our new friends to our room, we thank you for entrusting us with the care of your precious babies. We are also very sad to soon say goodbye to some friends who are moving up to the Toddlers room - we have enjoyed watching you all grow and look forward to seeing you development even further.

In the Nursery the children have been really engaged with learning lots of new songs in other languages. We even had one of our older nursery children sitting all the children down and running her own mat session for her peers. She did a great job and all the other children followed her lead, using their voices and actions to the songs.

We are currently looking into our sustainable practices within our room and coming up with new ways for the Nursery children to learn all about sustainability. If you have any ideas or suggestions or even things you do at home for this we would love to hear these.

Another focus for us this past month has been looking into the Aboriginal Culture and the language spoken by local Aboriginals. We will be continuing to learn more about their traditions and celebrations in the future.

If there are any changes to your child’s routine, eating/drinking habit or have any concerns, please let the Educators in the room know so that we can ensure we are following your home routine as best as possible.

Cheers

Nursery News

This month Dr Adrian from Marri Gum Dental in Byford gave an information session about how breathing techniques in children can have an affect on their teeth and cause medical problems later in life.

Dr Adrian gave us an insight on how to identify these breathing issues, showed us some breathing exercises that can be done to help with these and what other things they can do to reverse the affects.

It was a great information session that finished with Dr Adrian answering questions from the

audience.

We would like to thank Dr Adrian for giving such a great talk and we look forward to having you back

in the future. Another big thanks goes to the families who participated.

Hello to all our families from the Toddler Room. We have been doing some great things in the Toddler Room since last we wrote...... we have certainly been busy little beavers.

This month we have been focusing on allowing the children to have more agency in making decisions during their day. We have introduced progressive meal times, where children get to choose when they come to have meals and when they are ready to go back to play rather having to sit for long periods of time.

We have been having lots of fun learning about different modes of transport. We have been doing activities like making cars and buses out of boxes and materials at the centre, painting with cars, watching the buses and rubbish trucks go past the centre with more activities to come.

Self help skills have also been something we are encouraging at the moment. Taking off and putting on our own jumpers and shoes/socks, putting our hats away after play and applying our own sunscreen are all things we are currently assisting the children to gain further skills in. They are gaining more confidence with this every week.

Over the next few weeks we will be doing lots of planning for our new community garden. We will be visiting our Garden Bed, doing some weeding and planting some seeds. We are really looking forward to watching our plants grow and being able to cook with the yummy fruits, vegetables and herbs.

Cheers

Zoey, Tess, Heather L, Sue and Mandy

The Adventures of Archie Bear

Archie Bear is the adventurous bear that belongs to the children of the Toddler

Room.

So far Archie has been on some amazing adventures and

we cant wait to see what he does next.

This is also a great opportunity for us to extend on children’s learning at the centre using experiences that you have been doing with Archie.

Schoolies ScoopHello to all our families,

Wow who can believe that we are now halfway through term 2 for 2017, time is just flying by.

The Schoolies have been talking about how and what we would like to change about the Schoolies Room. Plans have been made and the changes are now starting to take shape. The new environment will include a ‘chill out zone’ and also a technology area for children.

Music and singing has also been a big part of our curriculum lately. The children have been using the iPad to listen to songs, watch dances and learning how to do the ‘cup song’. We are really enjoying listening to the singing and watching them gain confidence with this.

We would also like to send big thank you’s to all the children for their great cooperation at pick up and drop off times. With 6 schoolies/kindys to get to on a tight schedule, the children have been great at getting themselves to the meeting point and to class in the morning.

The July school holidays will be here before we know it. If you have any suggestions on places we could visit, please let the Educators know. This also goes for any experiences that you think would be great for our schoolies room.

Cheers Ashleigh and Lidia

Can you help ?…

We are currently for any tools, nuts, bolts, nails, screws, wood or anything other construction materials to use in the Schoolies Room.

If you have any suitable items that we can add to our current tool collection we would really appreciate them.

We are also wanting to know if any of our parents would be able to come along to the centre and donate their time to help with these

building and construction sessions. If you can please see Ashleigh to organise a time.

Policy Update…..

Management of Unwell Children Aim

The educators at Byford Child Care Centre will be aware of the children’s health and welfare at all times. In instances where a child becomes ill at the centre, educators will ensure that the child is comforted until a parent/guardian/authorised nominee arrives.

Links to the National Quality Standards

Element 2.1.1 Each child’s health needs are supported

PROCEDURE

If a child becomes unwell whilst at the centre the educator will inform the qualified educator and the Nominated Supervisor or Responsible Person at the Centre, will be notified. The child’s parents/guardian/authorised nominee will then be notified as soon as practicable, but not later than 24hours after the occurrence, and ask them to take the child home.

If the child’s parents are unable to be contacted the Emergency Contact Person will be called. The child will be separated from the other children to reduce the risk of spreading infection, but will remain in

view of the educator at all times. An educator will ensure the child is comfortable by observing and consoling him/her until a parent arrives. The

educator will complete the monitoring information on the 'Illness Report Form” and provide to parents/guardian/authorised nominee/emergency contacts upon arrival.

If the child feels fevered, their temperature will be taken and recorded on the “Illness Report Form”. The parent/guardian/emergency contact will be informed when contacted, and permission may be requested to administer paracetamol to the child. If paracetamol is administered a “Medication Form” will also be completed.

If a child has more than two loose bowl motions, then the child’s parents/guardian/authorised nominee will be notified and asked to collect their child promptly.

If a child’s temperature is over 37.8 degrees, then the child’s parents/guardian/authorised nominee will be notified and asked to collect their child.

The parent/guardian/authorised nominee will be informed that the child is to remain at home until he/she is well enough to return to the centre. In some cases a clearance letter from the child’s doctor may be required. Also refer to our “Exclusion of Sick Children Policy”.

An illness is to be recorded on the “Illness Report Form”. The “Illness Report Form” is to be kept until the child is aged 25years.

Measuring Tools: Illness Report Form Incident, Injury and Trauma Form Medication Form
