Workshops for Ages 0 - 5Boogie Babiesfor ages 6 months - 24 months

This group for babies and toddlers uses songs, musical instruments, stories and play in a fun and relaxed play session. The children are encouraged to interact and develop their social and motor skills whilst enjoying the playtime. Parents and carers are a part of the sessions, which are a fantastic way to meet other families with young children.Thursday 10:15am - 10:45am

A Baby Bytefor ages 6 months - 24 months

During this point, as an end to our Boogie Babies session, hot drinks for carers, and snacks for the children will be available in our foyer. Meet and socialise with our Little Imaginations families and enjoy a welcome break. This session is FREE.Thursday 10:45am - 11am

Little Imaginationsfor ages 2 - 4

Led by an experienced pre-school drama specialist, the children will use music and song, storytelling, role-play, craft and circus skills to learn and have fun. These sessions are a great way to give children a head start by building confidence and social skills in their earliest years.Tuesday 1:30pm - 2:30pm Thursday 11am - 12pmTu

Drama for Receptionfor ages 4 - 5

These sessions use storytelling and imaginary play to introduce children to drama. Supported by the workshop leader, children will develop their drama skills and create theatre using props, costume and their imaginations. These sessions work in harmony with the expressive arts and design learning area of the Early Years Curriculum.Tuesday 4pm - 5pm

Beginners & JuniorsDrama for Beginnersfor school years 1 - 3

The emphasis is on fun in these workshops and children will use games, role-play and storytelling to learn the basics of theatre and performance. The sessions are an opportunity for children to channel their creativity and boost their self-confidence. Each term ends with a sharing event to show friends and family what the group has been working on.Tuesday 5pm - 6pmThursday 4pm - 5pm

Junior Dramafor school years 4 - 6

Juniors take an imaginative approach to learning drama and performance skills, building confidence and having fun in the process. Under the guidance of an experienced drama worker they will produce a short piece to perform at the sharing event at the end of term. Juniors also have the opportunity to take part in at least two shows every year.Tuesday 6:30pm - 7:30pmThursday 5pm - 6pm

Wednesday 5pm - 6pm Saturday 11:30am - 12:30pm

Dance Creative 1for school years 1 - 6

This session is aimed at children who love to dance and move. The children will work with professional choreographer Kat Osborn to try out new styles of dance including street, modern and classical. They will create their own piece using costume, props and an original soundtrack that they will perform at the end of term sharing event.Thursday 4pm - 5pm

Seniors & Young ActorsSenior Dramafor school years 7 - 9

Senior Drama invites young people to develop their own style and use different theatre techniques to create performances. Young people will create exciting theatre and grow in confidence, developing skills in character, voice and improvisation.Wednesday 6pm - 7:30pmSaturday 1pm - 2:30pm

Dance Creative 2for school years 7 - 11 & young people aged 16 - 25

This session is for young people who love dance and want to learn new styles and create their own work. Work with Kat Osborn, a professional choreographer, to discover new moves and create edgy original routines.Thursday 5pm - 6pm

BYT Young Actorsfor school years 10 - 11 & young people aged 16 - 25

From developing characters to experimenting with different styles of theatre and devising their own pieces, the young actors will continue to gain the skills to become confident performers with a deeper understanding of the stage.Thursday 7:30pm - 9:30pm

BYT Young Actors’ Rep Companyfor school years 10 - 11 & young people aged 16 - 25

This year-long project began in September 2014 and will culminate in the young actors taking a piece of theatre to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August 2015. Auditions for the next Rep Company will take place in September 2015.Tuesday 7:30pm - 9:30pm

More Core WorkshopsIndrafor school years 7 - 11 & young people aged 16 - 25

Indra is a theatre group exploring political, social and community issues such as poverty, body image, modern day slavery and international conflict. Indra will be performing their show ‘Another World’ in May 2015. See Auditions & Performances page for more details.Tuesday 6pm - 7:30pm

Connect SessionsThese sessions are for people with disabilities and learning difficulties. The groups will work with two professional practitioners to create a performance piece combining movement, drama, voice, music and lighting.Junior Connect (ages 5 - 11) Wednesday 6pm - 7pmSenior Connect (ages 11 - 25) Wednesday 7pm - 8pmAdult Connect (ages 18+) Wednesday 1:30pm - 3pm

Arts AwardThe Arts Award is a nationally recognised qualification. You can achieve an Arts Award whilst taking part in Burnley Youth Theatre sessions, productions or when volunteering. This weekly session is run by our trained Arts Award advisers and can be attended regularly or on a drop-in basis to support you completing your Arts Award.Junior Session (ages 7 - 11) Thursday 4pm - 5pmSenior Session (ages 11 - 25) Thursday 5pm - 6pm Cost £30 per Arts Award Accreditation (to be paid in advance)Weeky drop in sessions FREE

First Byte’ Monthly Taster DaysDuring our new byte-size theatre taster days, participants will have the unique opportunity to explore specialist strands of theatre for a whole day!

These sessions cost £15 per day and must be booked and paid for in advance.

Writing For The Stagefor school years 7 - 11 and young people aged 16 - 25

Saturday 18th April 2015 10am - 4pm

Do you have a creative mind when it comes to stories and characters? With guidance on plot, dialogue and language, this workshop will give you the skills to express and structure your ideas through imaginative writing.

Sing Out Loudfor school years 7 - 11 and young people aged 16 - 25

Wednesday 27th May 2015 10am - 4pm (Half Term)

Our first, much anticipated, Musical Theatre Course! Work with an experienced vocal coach to create a medley of favourite musical numbers. No experience necessary, just plenty of enthusiasm and a willingness to have a go at group singing.

Technical Theatrefor school years 7 - 11 and young people aged 16 - 25

Saturday 27th June 2015 10am - 4pm

Our professional technician will work with participants to explore all aspects of technical theatre including stage management, lighting, sound and projection. Participants will also have the opportunity to give technical support to sharing events and productions.

Theatre Make-Upfor school years 7 - 11 and young people aged 16 - 25

Saturday 11th July 2015 10am - 4pm

Young people will create special effects using make-up such as cuts, bruises and ageing, as well as having the opportunity to design and create ‘character’ make-up.

Auditions & PerformancesThe Secret Gardenfor school years 2 - 6

Auditions on Tuesday 21st April 2015 5pm - 6:30pm

Join our Junior Cast to open a door in the garden wall and uncover the secrets of Misselthwaite Manor. This classic story of hope and discovery is a moving tale of childhood innocence and friendship.Please note that performances will take place on Friday 17th July & Saturday 18th July 2015.

A Midsummer Night’s Dreamfor school years 7 - 11 and young people aged 16 - 25

Auditions on Wednesday 22nd April 2015 7:30pm - 9:30pm

“I have had a most rare vision. I have had a dream, past the wit of man to say what dream it was.” Shakespeare’s story of love and magic will be brought to life by BYT’s Senior Cast this summer. The course of true love never did run smooth...Please note that performances will take place on Friday 24th July & Saturday 25th July 2015.

Another World (an Indra Group production)Friday 29th May 2015 at 7:30pm

Indra participants have created a challenging and brave piece of theatre which explores the domino effect that addiction can cause. Members will also be taking the performance to the International Indra Congress in Plymouth this summer.Adults £6, Concessions £4, BYT Members £3. Suitable for ages 12+

Losing Grace (a Byteback Theatre production)Friday 31st July 2015 at 7:30pm

One life. One box. No memories. Meet Grace, close to the end with nothing to take with her. Inspired by Andy Warhol’s Time Capsules, Losing Grace is a life-affirming tale of rediscovery and the value of our memories.Adults £6, Concessions £4, BYT Members £3. Suitable for ages 12+

Beginners Play In A Weekfor school years 1 - 3

Monday 3rd August - Friday 7th August 2015 from 10am - 4pm daily

Children will work with a professional director to learn a variety of new theatre skills, be creative and have fun. Using drama, movement, story-telling and music, the group will work towards a short sharing for friends and family on Friday 7th August at 6pm.

Junior Play In A Weekfor school years 4 - 6

Monday 10th August - Friday 14th August 2015 from 10am - 4pm daily

Participants will work with a professional director to create their own unique piece of theatre whilst learning a variety of theatrical skills, developing confidence and having fun. There will be a performance for family and friends on Friday 14th August at 6pm.

Senior Play In A Weekfor school years 7 - 11 and young people aged 16 - 25

Monday 17th August - Friday 21st August 2015 from 10am - 4pm daily

Young people will work with a professional director to create a piece of theatre, learning a range of different acting skills and styles. The week will culminate in a performance at Burnley Arts Centre on Friday 21st August at 6pm.

A Taste Of Theatrefor School years 4 - 11

Monday 24th August - Friday 28th August 2015 from 10am - 4pm daily

Young people will explore a different theatre speciality each day including Shakespeare, mime and mask, circus, musical theatre and physical theatre in this inspiring week. A perfect end to the summer holiday before the back-to-school blues.
