Take a moment to contemplate the symbols of the season. The crèche tells us the Gospel stories: first from Luke, which details the human birth in a lowly stable and the angels' mes-sage to shepherds; and later from Matthew, which describes the arrival of Magi who signify that God's Salvation extends to all. The angels stand as heralds of the Good News, an emblem for each of us on this solemn feast of our own duty to spread the message that Christ is born and saves us from our sins. The tree stands as a symbol of life, its green branches unfad-ing even in the winter cold, just as God's life remains in us
even though our human form should die. The wreath made of evergreens reminds us that God is one, without beginning or end. The candles recall the birth of Him who is forever the Light of the world. Today, we celebrate the fact that God came to earth as a beau-tiful, innocent infant who rejects no one. We rejoice this day in the birth of Christ! And tonight, we remember that Jesus Christ came into this world quietly, humbly, and gracefully, an exam-ple of how we should live our lives.

NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTION
2017 is beginning and we are asking for you to make your resolution to sign up for an hour of Adoration. There are 8,760 hours in a year, 730 in a month, and 168 in a week. Commit-ting to just 1 hour a week takes about 4 hours a month. It would be beneficial throughout this new year for us to spend more time in Adoration. Not just because the Lord asks us to do so, but because we receive unex-plained benefits that strengthen our faith and our purpose.
The Madonna of the Prairie Blessed Sacrament Chapel has times for scheduled adorers to sign up. We need a commit-ted adorer for 12:00 noon to 1:00 pm on Wednesdays. The Eucharist is exposed from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm on Wednes-days, and from 4:00 to 9:00 pm on Thursdays. The chapel is open 24 hours a day every day for your visit to the Lord.

Make enriching your marriage your New Year’s Resolution. The Diocese of Bismarck will host a 5 week Marriage Enrich-ment Series entitled REFOCCUS. This series is for anyone who wants to learn more about the strength areas, as well as growth areas of their marriage. The series will be held in the Cathedral basement beginning on Thurs., January 5, at 7:00 pm. (Other dates of the series are: January 12, January 18, February 2, and concluding February 9.) March for Life Pilgrimage 2017 — Teens in 9th—12th Grades are welcome to join the Diocesan Pilgrimage to the March for Life in Washington, D.C. We will leave January 24 and arrive the next night on a charter bus. We will be in the DC area Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, then return overnight on the bus to arrive in Bismarck Sunday night, January 29. We will take the first 40 youth.
