Purpose of the ARFVTP

• Health and Safety Code 44272(a)“…to develop and deploy innovative technologies that transform California’s fuel and vehicle types to help attainthe state’s climate change policies.”

• Complementary state goals–Improve air quality–Increase alternative fuel use–Reduce petroleum dependence–Promote economic development


• Established by Assembly Bill 118 (Nunez, 2007)

• Up to $100 million per year

• Extended through January 1, 2024 by Assembly Bill 8(Perea, 2013)

ARFVTP Projects

• Over $584 million awarded to more than 490 projects

• Awards include:


• Fairness - Increase funding accessibility to all Californians

• Diversity of Ideas - Great ideas occur in a variety of areas

• Inclusion - Small businesses make up a significant portion of the U.S. economy

• Job Creation - Projects can create jobs for residents of under-served communities

• Diversity in Needs - Needs vary widely from one community to the next (air quality, socioeconomic, etc.)

Electric Charging Infrastructure

• Upcoming grant solicitations– Solicitations expected in Q3 2015 and Q1 2016– Estimated $27 million available– Focus and requirements to be determined

• Pacific Gas & Electric– Proposed 25,000 Level 2 and 100 DC Fast Chargers at commercial,

public, and multi-unit dwelling locations

• San Diego Gas & Electric– Proposed 5,500 EV chargers at workplace and multi-unit dwelling

locations

• Southern California Edison– Proposed supporting infrastructure for 30,000 customer-owned EV

chargers


Natural Gas Fueling Infrastructure

• Grant solicitation in progress– Application deadline is closed.– Evaluation underway; NOPA expected in July 2015.

– Up to $500,000 grants– 0% - 25% match requirement– New or upgraded CNG fueling infrastructure– K-12 school districts and other public entities


Biofuel Production and Supply

• Upcoming grant solicitations– Solicitation expected in Q1 2016

– Estimated $16.5 million available

– Focus and requirements to be determined

• Previous grant solicitation– Up to $5 million grants

– 50% match requirement

– Pre-commercial, demonstration, and commercial facilities

– Production of advanced, low carbon biofuels(e.g. biomethane, ethanol, biodiesel, and others)

• New rebate program expected in July 2015– Over $10 million available– Administered by the University of California at Irvine– Incentives provided directly to vehicle purchasers

(depending on GVW)


Medium- and Heavy-Duty AdvancedVehicle Technology Demonstration

• Upcoming grant solicitation– Expected Q1 or Q2 2016– Estimated $14 million available– Focus and requirements to be determined

• Previous grant solicitation– $500,000 to $3,000,000 grants– 35% match requirement– Demonstrate Class 3 through 8 vehicles in California– Advanced alternative fuel powertrain vehicles– Open to private, non-profit, and public entities
