In September 2004, Connie Assiff began volunteering for the Alzheimer’s

Association Houston & Southeast Texas Chapter. Connie decided that

she wanted to assist the organization that had helped her through a

difficult time and that had literally saved her life.

Presently, Connie serves as a speaker, trainer, community advocate and

Ambassador. Her goal is to teach as many people as possible about

Alzheimer’s disease and take away the stigma and fear by educating

people on the facts. Her compassion and passion for her work are a result

of spending seventeen years as a caregiver for both her father and her

Grandmother, her namesake. Connie obtained her Master of Business

Administration degree from the University of Phoenix in 2006.

Connie is also a Certified Volunteer Long-Term Care Ombudsman, where she advocates for residents

at local nursing homes. Connie has been recognized by the Alzheimer’s Association and the University

of Texas Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program with several awards including Outstanding Community

Outreach Partner and Volunteer of the Year for both organizations. In 2014, she was honored as a

TexanPlus Champion finalist, (one of five in Houston and Southeast Texas) for the positive impact she

has made in the lives of older adults and their caregivers. Connie has also been recognized for her

efforts and expertise on Alzheimer’s disease, appearing on many Fox 26 television segments including

“Volunteer Houston” and “Hola Houston”. She was also featured on Univision’s “Viva La Mañana” and

has been an invited speaker on their evening news.

In addition to television, she has been asked to share her caregiving experiences on Univision Radio to

include live and taped broadcasts. Recently she was selected as the focus of an article on caregiving

in La Semana Newspaper and currently her image is used on the cover of the State Long-term Care

Ombudsman Certification Training manuals, which the state of Texas uses to train all future

Ombudsman.

As an Alzheimer’s Ambassador assigned to Senator Ted Cruz, Connie works with his local and federal

offices to implement a change in policy and laws to benefit the community and affected citizens. Connie

also serves as a Volunteer Mediator for the Dispute Resolution Center of Harris County and is a

facilitator for, “Powerful Tools for Caregivers”, which is a program designed to help Caregivers not only
