Dear Readers,

I welcome you to the next issue of CMP Now & forever…..The last 3 months saw an

amalgamation of curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities in our college,

the highlight being a 3 day seminar by international speaker & renowned Homeopath

Dr. Jeremy Sherr, in collaboration with The Other Song. Dr. Mohanbhai Patel; President-

HES who presided over its inaugural ceremony gave an inspirational address to motivate all. It was also

our privilege to invite Dr. Jeremy Sherr to our college. The 261st birth anniversary of Dr. Samuel

Hahnemann was celebrated with great fervour, with various seminars in college to promote

Homeopathy as a healing art. We did not forget our social responsibility as we observed International

Mother’s Day, World Health Day & International Yoga Day. Our students shone in all spheres as Miss

Fatimah Patel made us proud with her extraordinary performance at the MUHS exams & our debate

team won the intercollegiate debate held by the Beacon Foundation. Dr. Batra’s scholarships were

awarded to our summer and winter 2015 final exam toppers. Our staff too showed their mettle by

making presentations not only in college but also on television & abroad. The 1st year students

appeared for university exams at the end of 1 year as per the new pattern instead of 1.5 years. Though

a herculean task, the first year teachers completed the portion within this short span of time.

INTERNATIONAL SEMINAR Smt. C.M.P. Homeopathic Medical College in collaboration with The Other Song organized a 3 day seminar titled ‘Cracking the code for remedies and cases’ by Dr. Jeremy Sherr from 15th - 17th April 2016. The collaboration between the two institutes affiliated to MUHS was conceived for the benefit of large number of students and young practitioners across the country. The chief guest for the inaugural ceremony was Dr. Mohanbhai Patel, President - Homeopathic Education Society & the Guests of Honor were Shri. Hiteshbhai Mehta & Smt. Daxaben Mehta, Founder members - TOS. Also on the dias were Dr. Parizad Damania, Principal - Smt. C.M.P.H.M.C. and Dr. Rajan Sankaran, Head – TOS. Following the inspirational address by the chief guest and the guest of honor, latest issues of CMPH Now and CMPH Healings were released. The Inaugural function was conducted by Dr. Nimish Mehta *Seminar committee - Smt. C.M.P.H.M.C. + and Dr Faiza Khan, along with Dr. Meghna Shah, *Dean -The Other Song+ who all also co-ordinated the collaboration with the guidance of Mrs. Khurshid Palkhiwalla, Administrative Manager - Smt. C.M.P.H.M.C. Dr. Jeremy Sherr, renowned in the world of Homeopathy as an original Researcher, is the Pioneer for “Dynamics and methodology of Homeopathic provings”, Software of dynamic case taking & repertory of mental qualities. He is also the founder of The Dynamis school, London, U.K. He shared his insights on his missionary work in treating HIV and Malaria in Africa and his novel provings. The seminar was attended by Senior teachers like Dr. N. O. Goel, Dr. A. S. Nanabhai, Dr. N. P. Shukla, Dr. P. Y. Devadiga, Dr. Kamlesh Mehta, Dr. Vanita Johari, Dr. Sonal Kothari, , Dr. Trupti Deorukhkar, The seminar was also attended by Dr. Shivani Surve, Dr. Sumit Goel, Dr. Rakesh Gupta, Dr. Gausia Sayed, Dr. Abhinandad Hulamani, Dr. Aparna Pote, Dr. Nishit Jain, Dr. Kanika Sabharwal, Dr. Prachi Bhanushali, Dr. Kiran Tiwari, Dr. Divya Menon and the interns of the college.

STAR ACHIEVER Congratulations to Miss Patel Fatimah Arif who made us proud at the MUHS examination of winter

2015. She was the state topper in the subject of Pathology scoring 157/200. She also ranked 3rd in the state of

Maharashtra at the second BHMS exams.

JEREMY SHERR AT C.M.P.H.M.C.

On April 18, 2016, Smt. C.M.P.H.M.C. invited renowned international speaker,

Dr. Jeremy Sherr for a formal visit to the institute and also arranged his seminar

for undergraduate students. He shared many inspiring cases with lucid

understanding. He also motivated the students to take advantage of the

resources available to students of Smt. C.M.P.H.M.C vis-a-vis students of

Homeopathy in other countries. He appreciated the state of the art set-up of the

Hospital and the departmental infrastructure available in the college. The

speaker was felicitated by Dr. Parizad Damania, Principal.

HAHNEMANN DAY - 9th APRIL The customary garlanding ceremony of Dr. Hahnemann’s statue was performed by Dr. Parizad Damania, Principal, in the college. Dr. Darshan Shah, C. S. (students council), spoke about Dr. Hahnemann’s life and his teachings and its relevance in the world today.

ORGANON SEMINAR - 9TH APRIL

The Dept. of Organon of Medicine organised a seminar on “Management Of Incurable Cases”.

Dr. Prabhakar Devadiga presented a case of ‘Osteochondroma’ and Dr. Nimish Mehta

presented a case of ‘Extra articular benign synovial cyst’. Both the cases with evidence based

management provided an insight into the deeper understanding of the topic. Master of

ceremony Dr. Mona Parmar beautifully anchored the proceedings.

FMT SEMINAR - 9TH APRIL

The Dept. of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology presented a case of “Integrated Psychiatric Homeopathic

Management with application of Forensic Medicine” on 9th April 2016. Emphasis was on understanding

the Medico-Legal significance of suicidal cases and methods to manage them as Homeopathic Physician.

Dr Rakesh Gupta made the presentation using patient’s videos to drive home the point.

HAHNEMANN WEEK CELEBRATION - 7TH TO 11TH APRIL 2016 : On the occasion of 261st birth

anniversary of Dr. Samuel Hahnemann *10th April+, Smt. C.M.P.H.M.C. celebrated the Hahnemann

week from 7th -11th April, 2016. On the World Health Day, 7th April 2016, all OPD patients of Shree

Mumbadevi Homeopathic Hospital were given free consultation & medicine.

COMMUNITY MEDICINE - WORLD HEALTH DAY - 7TH APRIL

On 7th April 2016, on the occasion of the ‘World Health Day’, the Dept. of

Community Medicine arranged an awareness campaign on Diabetes Mellitus.

Dr. Rupa Rao and Dr. Nishit Jain co-ordinated with students of 4th B.H.M.S.

for the benefits of patients at the Hospital. A group of interns/students

performed a street play in the campus which was attended by the respected

Hon. Secretary Dr. Asmita Parikh, Admin. Manager Mrs. Khurshid

Palkhiwalla, Principal Dr. Parizad Damania, teachers & students. Dr. Asmita

Parikh encouraged the students to participate in such activities. The street

play was also performed in the Khadi Bhandaar Organization at Irla for their

staff who were informed about Diabetes Mellitus and Homeopathy.

MASTERS OF MATERIA MEDICA - 11TH APRIL

The Department of Homeopathic Materia Medica organized an inter class

quiz contest, “ MASTERS OF MATERIA MEDICA” on 11th April 2016 in the

college auditorium. Teams from each class, selected by merit, were given

names of stalwarts in the Homeopathic field. There were rounds based on

themes of popular television shows like Big Bang Theory, Teen ka Tadka

etc, making the event lively whilst imparting knowledge. Dr. N. O. Goel

played the Quiz Master with Dr. Vanita Johari, Dr. Abhinandan Hulamani,

Dr. Aparna Pote and Dr. Rahul Joshi. The II BHMS team; ‘Amazing Allens’

were the winners.

MOTHER AND CHILD HEALTH CARE CAMP As a part of their ongoing efforts to contribute to ‘The

National Health Programme of Mother & Child Care’; the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology

conducted a “Free Health Check-up Camp for Mother & Child” on 9th May, 2016 to commemorate “

International Mother’s Day” . The camp was organized by Smt. C.M.P.H.M.C. and

Shree Mumbadevi Homeopathic Hospital, with the expert team of Dr. Trupti

Deorukhkar, Dr. Kanika Sabharwal & Gynaecologist Dr. Uday Rane. The interns & students received

valuable experience in managing patients. Dietary and auxiliary advice were suggested to each patient with

emphasis on homeopathic treatment & services available in Shree Mumbadevi Homeopathic Hospital.

INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY - To celebrate the 2nd International Yoga Day ( as declared by

UNGA ) Smt. C.M.P.H.M.C. organised an event on 20th June 2016, in accordance with directives of

Govt. of India, AYUSH and CCH. Dr. Tarul Jadhav, (Dept. Of Surgery) a certified Yoga teacher,

introduced the audience to Yoga discipline. She also spoke about Homeopathy & Yoga and held

an interactive session to experience Calmness through ‘Sukhasana’, Relaxation through

‘Shavasana’& ‘Trataka’. Mr.Virendra Sonsaria, (Librarian) demonstrated ‘Vrikshasana’, an asana that aids concentration.

BRAIN DISSECTION FOR FUTURE CLINICIANS - One of the picture perfect dissections of

Base of Brain and Circle of Willis, was achieved by the Dept. of Anatomy on 23rd June

2016. Dr. Sonal Kothari and Dr. Shivani Surve dissected and demonstrated the Vertebral,

Basilar and Internal Carotid Arteries with their branches and the Brainstem with

emergence of 5th to 12th cranial nerves. Regular undertaking of such activities by the

preclinical departments go a long way in creating better clinicians in Smt. C.M.P.H.M.C.

MIND AND MUSCLE POWER A unique event comprising of 2 seminars

and a prize distribution ceremony was held on 17/6/16. Dr. Bindu

Sharma, Director – Dr. Batra’s Foundation presented the 1st seminar -

‘Homeopathy Today and Tomorrow’; where she spoke about the

scope of Homeopathy worldwide and the rewards of practicing homeopathy. Dr. Sameer Chaukkar, Dean - Dr Batra’s

Academy acquainted the audience with the academy. The next event was ‘Awarding Excellence’ in which toppers of final year

( Batch 2015-16, summer & winter) were awarded scholarships by Dr Batra’s Foundation. The Gold scholarships were

awarded to Dr. Hetashvi Arya & Dr. Manasi Shinde. In the 2nd seminar, muscle

power was aptly demonstrated by Mr. Mohan Savalkar, renowned fitness

consultant who interacted with the audience stressing the importance of fitness

in the ‘Journey to Wellness’

TOBACCO CESSATION TRAINING PROGRAM Life First Organisation conducted a ‘Tobacco

Cessation Training Program’ on 24th May 2016 for the teachers and interns

of Smt. C.M.P.H.M.C. The day long session comprised of 4 modules. Trainers

Dr. Rohan Bartake (Alumni, Smt. CMPHMC) and Ms. Ratandeep Chawla

held the workshop with a pre-test & a post-test as well as an interactive session with a ‘role play’ to impart the

training effectively.

MEDICINE SEMINAR

A Seminar on ‘Introduction to Radiology’ was arranged by the Department of

Medicine on 28/6/2016 for interns and Teachers. Dr. Kiran Tiwari welcomed and

introduced Dr Ankit Shah, the guest speaker for the day. Dr. Shah focused on Basic

Chest Radiology in diagnosis. The session was concluded with a vote of thanks by

Dr. Nimish Shukla. Dr. Ankit Shah was felicitated by Dr. N.O Goel.

CMP TEACHERS : NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL EVENTS Dr. Prachi Bedekar participated in a panel discussion on “The ill effects of heat and air pollution on health conditions resulting in various diseases in Mumbai's general population” on 15th April 2016 on Etv Urdu.

Dr Avishkar Zagday spoke on ‘ The Secret of Health ‘ in Hong Kong; at a workshop for Indian Residents

organised by the Tung Chung Caribbean Coast Group on 16/05/16. He also spoke at the Air India Modern

School, on 29th June 2016. He shared his experience of cases of Smt. C.M.P.H.M.C. & Shree Mumbadevi

Homeopathic Hospital.

delight to watch. The gulmohur tree with its deep red flowers is a refreshing sight, as also home to the Copper-

smith Barbet. And the jackfruit tree laden with its bounty entices one & all.

CLASSROOM SEMINARS To enhance the learning process and enable students to have an in-depth study of various topics &

instill confidence in them the following departments conducted their classroom seminars as follows:

ACADEMIC COLLABORATION BETWEEN SMT. C.M.P. HOMEOPATHIC MEDICAL COLLEGE AND ADVANCED MULTISPECIALITY

HOSPITAL This unique academic collaboration has completed more than 2½ years and has not only helped the institute to

fulfill the mandatory requirement of Central Council of Homeopathy of having an association with a Multispecialty hospital,

but has also been beneficial to the education of students of our college. Shree Mumbadevi Homeopathic Hospital was always

a fully equipped hospital with complete set up required for a comprehensive hospital. However, the C.C.H. through its

Notification dated 8th March 2013, had made it mandatory for an academic collaboration with a multispecialty hospital. As a

result of the above, Advanced Multispecialty Hospital has been like an additional support to the already existing functioning of

Shree Mumbadevi Homeopathic Hospital. With the supplement of Advanced Multispecialty hospital, which has allowed use of

the existing facilities such as O.T., I.C.U., equipment etc. the students have got a wider exposure to more number of patients.

In the past one year, the students of our college have got the opportunity to witness and learn from 577 major surgeries, 586

minor operations and 97 deliveries. Students have been fortunate to have hands on training on 843 medical cases too.

Honoraries from the allopathic section impart their experience and expertise to the students which acts like a boost to medical

education. Homeopaths from our College freely admit patients & prescribe homeopathic remedies at Advanced Multispecialty

Hospital, a rare feature not seen in any other hospital. At the Advanced Multispecialty Hospital, homeopaths are respected &

treated at par with their allopathic counterparts. Homeopaths have been able to showcase “Evidenced based homeopathic

treatment” which has been featured in the periodic newsletters of the college, namely “CMP Healings” and “CMP Now”. After

passing out from the institute, our students get an opportunity to get employed at Advanced Multispecialty hospital & similar

institutions. Thus, this non profiting collaboration has maximized the opportunities for research, innovation, education and

service improvement to benefit patients. It has increased the opportunities for homeopathic students by way of sharpening

their academic skills and practical acumen under the supervision and guidance of senior homeopaths and doctors from the

field of Modern medicine.

SPORTS WEEK - The sports week in April-May 2016 comprised of Boys Box Cricket followed by Indoor Sports – Carom, Table

Tennis and Chess and Season Cricket at Oval Maidan on 2nd - 3rd of May 2016. Students participated in large numbers and

showcased the unity and sportsman spirit of CMPHMC.

INTERCOLLEGIATE DEBATE COMPETITION was held by Beacon Foundation on 17/4/16. The participants enthusiastically spoke

on the topic- ‘By emphasizing on “Dare to be wise”, Dr. Hahnemann subtly cautioned Homoeopaths the consequences of not

being wise, but due to the advent of smart technology, Homoeopaths have become more smart than wise?' The team from

Smt. C.M.P.H.M.C. were in excellent form winning: Best team trophy - Bhumi Thakkar and Siddhi Salunkhe (4th year), Best

speaker - Dr. Ashni Shah & consolation prizes- Arshia Mulla, Bhumi Thakkar & Rhys Drago.
