Safety instructions

Please read these operating instructions thoroughly and follow them, paying special attention to the safety instructions, before using the appliance for the first time. This appliance should only be used as designated and described in these instructions. Please keep these instructions in a safe place for future reference. If you pass on this kitchen scale to a third party, please include these instructions.

Application/intended use The device is intended for private use only and are not designed to be used in a heavy industrial business or.

Keep battery operated equipment out of reach of children Children should be supervised to ensure they do not play with this unit. This unit is not intended for use by people (including children) with

reduced physical, sensory or mental abilities or for those without experience and/or knowledge, unless they are supervised by a person responsible for their safety or they have been instructed on its use. Children should be supervised to ensure they do not play with this unit.

Do not allow children to use the device without supervision. The appliance is battery-operated. Batteries may endanger life if

swallowed. Therefore, you should keep the device out of reach of children. Obtain immediate medical assistance in case a battery is swallowed.

General information Only use the scales on an even surface. Do not store the scales in a vertical position. Do not put weights on the scale unless you are using it for measuring

and do not store items on it. Protect the scale from moisture. Do not continue using the device if it is damaged as you could injure

yourself.

Correct handling of batteries Batteries can contain combustible materials. If not handled correctly

batteries can leak, become very hot, ignite or even explode, which could damage your appliance or/and your health.

Please ensure compliance with the following advice: Replace all the old batteries in an appliance with new batteries of the

same type. Never mix new and old batteries or different types of batteries. This

could cause your appliance to malfunction. In addition, the weaker batteries would discharge too much.

Batteries may endanger life if swallowed. Obtain immediate medical assistance in case a battery is swallowed.

Before inserting the batteries, check that the contacts in the device and on the batteries are clean and, if necessary, clean them.

Only use new batteries. Always change the complete set of batteries. Do not use a combination of battery types. Do not use rechargeable batteries. Never try to recharge normal batteries. Danger of explosion! Never expose the batteries to excessive heat such as sunshine, fire or

similar. There is an increased risk of leakage. Never short-circuit the batteries. Never throw batteries into a fire. Do take apart or deform the batteries. If the scales are not going to be used for long periods, remove the

batteries. Remove leaking batteries from the device immediately. Avoid contact

with skin, eyes and mucous membranes. If these areas come into contact with battery acid, rinse them immediately with plenty of clean water and contact a doctor immediately. There is a risk of corrosion due to battery acid.

Immediately remove used batteries from the appliance. There is an increased risk of leakage.

Correct repair procedure If there is a fault contact Medion Service Centre or other suitable specialist workshop.

Operation

Inserting the battery This scale runs on a lithium battery CR2032. If the screen shows "LO" or the display's intensity falls the battery must be replaced. Turn the battery compartment lid anticlockwise and remove it. Ensure the +/- terminals of the battery are correct.

The plus (+) terminal points to the battery lid. Lay the battery under the lead. Press the battery smoothly down.

Replace the battery compartment lid and turn it clockwise.

Warning! Only use new batteries. Do not expose a device containing a battery to direct heat or sunlight. For example, do not store it on a radiator. Ensure you use the batteries properly and adhere to the safety advice on page 5.

Exchanging the battery Open the battery compartment cover under the device. Lever the battery with a fingernail or similar object out of the battery

compartment. Insert a new battery into the battery compartment, as described above.

Using the scales Briefly press the /RESET button to switch the scale on. Wait until the display reads 0.000 kg. Now place the object to be weighed onto the scales. The weight will appear on the display.

Note If O-Ld is displayed, the unit is overloaded. Remove the weight from the scales immediately otherwise lasting damage may occur.

Calibrating the scales If the object to be weighed cannot be placed directly onto the scales, then you can use an appropriate container. In order to ascertain the correct weight, you must tare the scales. To do so, proceed as follows: Switch the scale on. Place the container on the scales. Wait until the display shows the weight of the bowl and then briefly press

the /RESET button. The scales are tared. Now place the object to be weighed into the bowl

and weigh it.

Select measuring unit The kitchen scales can display grams, kilograms, ounces, millilitre and pounds. To change the measuring unit, proceed as follows: Switch the scale on. Press briefly the UNIT button. The display changes, depending the current unit, from kg (kilogram) to oz (ounce) ml (millilitre), lb:oz (pounds:ounces) or g (gram).

Switching off the scale The scales switch off automatically after one minute of inactivity. You can also turn of the scales by long pressing the /RESET button.

Cleaning the unit Use only mild soap solutions or commercial glass cleaners to clean the scale. Avoid the use of chemical solutions and cleaning products because these may damage the device’s surface or markings.

Troubleshooting Check if the scales are standing on an even surface. Ensure the batteries have been inserted correctly. Insert new battery as soon as "Lo" appears in the display. If O-Ld is displayed, the unit is overloaded. Remove the weight from the

scales immediately otherwise lasting damage may occur.

Disposal

The appliance is packaged to protect it against transportation damage. Packaging materials are primary products and can therefore be reused or recycled.

At the end of its life, the appliance should not be disposed of in household rubbish. Please consult your local authority for advice on correct and eco-friendly methods of disposal.

Do not dispose of used batteries in household rubbish. Please return the batteries to a collecting point for used batteries or specialist dealer for disposal.
