FOR DUCK PUBLICITY AND COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER Member of DUCK Publicity Team 2017/18 Worked for 4 months for the Publicity Team at Wellington College Shanghai in 2017 Age UK volunteer Publicity Manager 2015/16 at Restore- the UK’s first school-run charity shop SSSK representative 2015/2016 Volunteer at Orion Children’s Home in summer 2014 Volunteer teaching assistant at Hangzhou School for the Deaf in autumn 2014 Volunteer teaching assistant at Sacred Heart School London 2014 Events photographer in and around Durham Keen filmmaker, regularly entering festivals such as BPF shorts I’M A 20-YEAR-OLD FIRST YEAR STUDENT STUDYING CHINESE FROM CUTH’S, ORIGINALLY FROM LONDON. I HAVE SPENT THE LAST YEAR AS A MEMBER OF THE DUCK PUBLICITY TEAM AND WOULD LOVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO LEAD IT NEXT YEAR. IT IS THIS EXPERIENCE THAT HAS LED ME TO BELIEVE I WOULD BE A GOOD OFFICER. AS WELL AS MY ORGANIZATION, PHOTOGRAPHY AND VIDEOGRAPHY SKILLS, LOVE FOR ALL THINGS SOCIAL MEDIA RELATED, AND CRUCIALLY MY PASSION FOR CHARITY. I BELIEVE THAT DUCK IS SUCH AN INCREDIBLE RAG AND DESERVES TO INFLUENCE EVERYONE AT THE UNIVERSITY’S EXPERIENCE; AND EFFECTIVE PUBLICITY IS JUST THE WAY TO ACHIEVE THIS. HAVING HAD THE FOUNDATIONS FOR EFFECTIVE PUBLICITY SECURED BY THE TEAM THIS YEAR, I WOULD LIKE TO TAKE THIS ONE STEP FURTHER TO CREATE MORE ‘HYPE’ AROUND DUCK AND ALL THE AMAZING THINGS WE DO EVERY YEAR. Continue to build hype around DUCK and our events to ‘make DUCK cool’ Quirky promotional videos and slogans playing up the word ‘duck’ e.g. DUCK it; donate! Carry out more large scale publicity stunts to build awareness Create high quality promotional videos to build hype round events, challenges and expeditions Use some sponsorship money to create Snapchat filters and location tags to build hype around certain events such as the DUCK race, College Swaps, etc Make use of spaces around Durham to publicize what DUCK is up to that week Publicise which charities we are supporting more clearly- with dedicated social media posts and emails Publicise a goal in the beginning of the year, which sets a minimum target of the money we would like to raise that year Liaise with college bars to leave charity collection boxes by the bar to collect loose change- these will help raise money and spread awareness Collaborate with the publicity members of other teams more, so that there is clear cohesion regarding the publicity of events Continue to build Instagram as a platform to get across the message of what DUCK is about Publicise our visual newsletter on more platforms e.g. Snapchat story, Instagram story and Facebook story Link all our Facebook pages together to provide easier access to visitors Learn from other university RAG’s and create similar stunts to promote our social media platforms e.g. Instagram photo booth as in Exeter Stream live videos from events, challenges and expeditions Collaborate with Tindur, Durfess, the Tab and other popular Durham student social media platforms Create a regularly updated fund raising thermometer on the website Keep an up to date calendar on the website with links to Facebook events Include sign-up deadlines on the website with links to promotional videos Update our Wikipedia page
