TRANSCRIPT
“I will praise thee, O Lord, with my whole heart; I will shew forth all thy
marvelous works. I will be glad and rejoice in thee: I will sing praise to thy
name. O thou most High. When mine enemies are turned back, they shall fall
and perish at thy presence” (Psalm 9:12-13).
In our church, we are not strangers to praising God fervently. We get caught
up into the atmosphere of worship and praise. It is about the times when
worship and praise becomes laborious and a challenge that I would like to
speak.
We have all been through times when we felt that we were trying to hold up
100 lb weights when we lifted our hands. It was work to get our hands to move.
In serving God we experience mountaintops and the deep valley below. David
also had that experience, but he never stopped worshiping and praising God
through it all. What an honor to have been chosen to write some of the books of
the inspired Word of God.
I wonder if the Psalms would have been as eloquently written if David hadn’t
endured all the trouble and enemies around him. It doesn’t make sense to leave
God out of our plans. He is the Almighty! He promises to help us in our
troubles; He always makes a way; He is our comforter. He gave us a new song
of praise. He knows our heart and our desires. Truly the Lord doesn’t forget our
cry when we come into his presence humbly. It’s his desire that we have the
good things in life.
Sometimes it seems that every weapon known to man has been formed
against us and there is trouble on every side. Our health begins to fail us, our
soul is thirsty for the living water to pour over us again, and we are fighting an
unknown and uncertain future; but, the Bible promises that when the enemy
comes in like a flood that he will lift up a standard against him. He becomes a
shield against the wicked one.
We are to keep worshiping and praising God—in the good times and in the
not so good. When we are happy, and when we are sad; when there is joy
unspeakable, and when the joy has departed; in an abundance of rain and
refreshing, and when we find ourselves somewhere in the desert. I will bless the
Lord at all times his praise shall continually be in my mouth. David had a right
to be bitter and distressed for most of his life, but he chose to use the most
powerful weapon of all to overcome his despair and gain true victory over his
enemies: PRAISE and WORSHIP with a whole heart. –gm
