What better way to show your dad how much you appreciate him than by inviting him to a cookout/car and tractor show? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered! Invite your dad, husband, son, and other

influentical men in your life to Cornerstone on Sunday, June 19 for a Father’s Day celebration. Worship with us at 10:30am and stick around for a free cookout while checking out some of the cars and tractors on display. (Note: there will be no 9am service on this day.) Come and join me as we tiptoe through the flowers beds of Cornerstone Christian

Church and pick weeds. I’m looking to create several groups of people to come out once a week (if we get enough people together I hope we can do it monthly) and take care of assigned flowerbeds. If you are inter-ested in helping or have any questions, please contact Margie Safko (571-6167 or [email protected]).

Sign up sheets are at the Welcome Center.

It’s finally sinking in!Cobrette Bardole

This summer my band Sink In has been offered a few incredible opportunities for music career—most notably spots on the Music Competition

Stages at both Creation Northeast and Creation Northwest. On Thursday, June 30, each band will get 10 minutes to prove to the judges their musical talent and message. (Sink In is on at 11:20am.) The judges’ favorite then gets transferred to the main stage on Saturday, July 2 for a full 30-minute set right before Family Force 5 and Switchfoot.

We are very excited to finally be playing a stage that we have all dreamed about. Apart from Creation, we have just finished booking our full summer tour which includes appearances at Joshua Fest (Quincy, California), Reach Out Fest (Cortez, Colorado and Española, New Mexico), and many other Christian music festivals.

For anyone not going to Creation but would like to experi-ence Sink In, we will be performing the week prior at The Facktory in Liverpool, Pa. on June 25, starting at 6:30pm. For tickets, which are $10, please contact Barbara Bardole ([email protected] or 460-2583). To see our full list of tour dates please visit www.SinkInBand.com.

Here’s an easy way to help sup-port Cornerstone as we focus on our “one thing” and reach out to

the community—just shop on Amazon! When you shop using Amazon Smile (and designate Cornerstone as your charity of choice), Amazon will give us a percentage of your total purchase.

Come to a kid-friendly scavenger hunt at the Cornerstone Christian Church Trails on Saturday, June 11 for a leisurely-paced 1.43-mile hike

over easy terrain. See how many hidden things can be found along the trail. This hike is appropriate for children age 5 and older. Adults without children are also wel-come. Meet at the Cornerstone Christian Church, 595 New Bloomfield Road, Duncannon at 9am. Contact Deb Takach (395-2462 or [email protected]) to register.

A man may study because his brain is hungry for knowledge, even Bible knowledge. But he prays because his soul is hungry for God.Leonard Ravenhill

Over and over again, we lose sight of what is impor-tant and what isn’t. We crave things over which we have no control, and not satisfied by the things within our control. We need to regularly stop and take stock; to sit down and determine within ourselves which things are worth valuing and which things are not.Epictetus

Deaf signing

Jessica Bentley-Sassaman and Gina DiFiore-Ridolph generously offer their services as interpreters for the deaf at our 9am Sunday Celebration. If you need this

service, please try to sit in the first row on the right side of the multi-purpose room as Jessica and Gina sign the lyrics to our worship music and the sermons.

Online giving

We’ve all been there. The ushers walk to the front of the room and you begin the frantic search of your pockets looking for your offering envelope, only to remember

it’s still sitting on the kitchen table. Forget the stress and check out Cornerstone’s online giving. This secure platform allows you to safely use your credit card, debit card, or a bank transfer to give your offering as you normally would. All donations are tracked and we provide a chartiable giving receipt to you at the end of the year, or you can access your account anytime to track your giving. Visit cccduncannon.com/donate for more information or to get started.

Celebrate • Connect • ReachVirtual budget meeting

Summer is a busy time at Cornerstone and it’s a challenge to coordinate calendars for a meeting. Because of this, we will be having a “Virtual”

vote to approve the budget for the 2016–2017 fiscal year (July 1–June 30). Partners will be receiving a letter in the upcoming week including a copy of the proposed budget, and any additional pertinent details and instructions on vot-ing to approve. Anyone with questions regarding the pro-posed budget is welcome to attend a Q&A Budget Meet-ing on Sunday, June 19 at 10am in the Green Room. All votes must be submitted via mail, office drop-off, or the appropriate online link by Sunday, June 26.

A copy of the proposed budget as well as a voting link will also be available on our website (cccduncannon.com/about_us) in early June. Hard copies of the budget will be available by request from the church office. Please note, only partners are eligible to vote. If you have any questions regarding this virtual process, please contact the church office (834-4641 or [email protected]) to be directed to an appropriate elder.

Thanks, guys!

On Sunday, May 8 the men of the Church held a brunch after the 9:30 worship for the women to celebrate Mother’s Day. Thank you to all the vol-

unteers who helped with this celebration. Everything was delicious and a great time was had by all! A very special thank you to Jim Dersham and Doug Young for spearhead-ing this event. Jim and Doug “rallied the troops” to create a fun afternoon (and make a pretty delicious meal). Thank you and the rest of your team for giving your time to help us honor the “moms” in the Cornerstone family! We really appreciate you guys!

The Over 50s will meet for breakfast with Pastor David

at the Marysville Diner on Wednesday, June 8 at 9am. Be sure to join us!

Let’s head to a ball game this month! On Friday, June 10, the Harrisburg Senators are playing the Akron Rubber Ducks on City Island and there are FIREWORKS after the game! Tickets are $13 for box seats. We’ll meet at the park at 6pm for the 7 o’clock game, or if interested, carpooling may be an option. Please contact Charlotte Barrett (834-6364 or [email protected]) if planning on attending so we can all sit together. Invite some friends—the more the merrier— and let’s enjoy some good base- ball and fireworks.

Adult Sunday school

The Adult Sunday school class, taught by Gerry Wevodau and Alan Tech, meets Sunday morn-

ings at 9am in the Green Room. The class is doing multiple studies in the next three months. No need to sign up—just drop in!

If you’re looking to get connect this summer, it’s a great time to learn more about some of our ministries! Do you love kids but shudder at the thought of teaching a lesson? Why not lead

a small group on Sunday mornings to help kids understand the lesson and apply it to their lives? Contact the church office ([email protected] or 834-4641) to learn more!

Tips to get connectedThere isn’t an exact science to joining a group or team—some groups require signups so materials can be ordered, and others you can just show up at a determined time. If there is a connect group or ministry team that’s been on your heart, talk to the leader about how to get involved. If you’re not sure who to talk to, contact Megan Safko or call the church office ([email protected] or 834-4641) and we can get you con-nected to the right person.

If you’re not sure where to start, here are a few tips to getting connected at Cornerstone:

1. Pray about it. This may seem like a no-brainer but it’s an im-portant first step. Ask God for guidance or direction of where to start. Ask if serving on a team or joining a group would be a better fit. And continue praying through the entire process.

2. Talk it over. Ask a ministry leader for more details about an opportunity or sit down with one of our staff members to an-swer questions about being involved. If you’re not sure where you’d fit, ask a close friend or family member where they could picture you growing. Sometimes friends see us more clearly than we see ourselves. (Proverbs 27:17)

3. Evaluate your time. Some commitments are once a month, others are once a week, and some require a commitment sev-eral times a week. We don’t want to stretch anyone too thin and we ask for a commitment from our team members. Take a close look at your schedule so you know what is realistic.

4. Try it out. If you’re interested in joining a ministry team or connect group, we don’t require a 10-year commitment (but we sure do hope it ends up that way!) Talk to a ministry leader about observing so you can SEE what happens in a group/team and know if it’s right for you. If it’s not, that’s ok. We want you serving in the place that’s right for you.

5. Get connected. You may not find your fit on the first try, but once you do, get plugged in! There is a team that needs your gifts and skill set and is just waiting for you to get involved!

We are anxiously preparing for the 2016 Perry County Work Camp (June 20–24). Work Camp serves our neighbors in need by providing help with various

projects ranging anywhere from weeding flower beds to helping replace a roof. We also provide meals to our volunteers and the people we are serving.

In 2015 Cornerstone took over this great outreach. With the help of approximately 75 volunteers in the field and behind the scenes, we completed 17 projects and collected approximately $10,000 to help cover the cost of the projects. This year our goal is to complete 30 projects, have 100 volunteers, and raise $20,000 for the projects. We know that this can be accomplished with God’s blessing and your help.

If you, or anyone you know, would like to use their talents to help with this outreach, or if you know of a family who could use some help, please pick up a Volunteer Application or Home/Repair Application at the Welcome Center, fill it out, and return it to the church office ASAP. Can’t volunteer the entire week? That’s okay! You can sign up for as many days as your schedule will allow. Have some questions? Contact Keith Wilson (834-0125 or [email protected]), Kevin Weller (582-4470 or [email protected]), or the church office (834-4641 or [email protected]), and we’ll be happy to answer any questions you have.

Juniper Community Missions is a non-profit organization based in Thompsontown that ministers to the people of Haiti. They have recently begun building a base for their ministry on Jabot Mountain. The mountains of Haiti are very rough, rugged, and difficult to navigate. To get food, supplies, and

missionaries to the people in the mountains, they plan to use Polaris Ranger six-person diesel UTVs, which are vital to their mission. One hundred percent of the proceeds of this rally will go directly to help purchase the UTVs so they can reach the unreached. Have others join you in support of this effort for Juniper Community Missions. Ask others to pledge a donation for your ride. Pledges must be turned in the day of the ride. The top three riders with the most pledges will win a prize.

Make all checks payable to Juniper Community Missions. For more information about the rally, contact Lisa Peters (lj [email protected] or 348-8098). For more informa-tion about Juniper Community Missions, go to www.juniper-communitymissions.org. All donations are tax deductible. You can also pick up a registration form at the Welcome Center.

July 24–28, 6–8:30pm

Send your kids on an over-the-top underground adventure! At Cave Quest VBS, kids explore the rock-solid foundation of Jesus’ love. Cave Quest

VBS is filled with incredible Bible-learning experiences kids will see, hear, touch, and even taste! Sciency-Fun Gizmos, team-building games, cool Bible songs, and tasty treats are just a few of the standout activities that help faith flow into real life. Plus, kids discover how to see evidence of God in everyday life—something we call God Sightings. The kids also participate in a hands-on mission project, through a program called Operation Kid-to-Kid, that will let the kids in our community show God’s mighty love to needy kids in the United States.

Each year Cornerstone welcomes more than 100 children from our church and community to our VBS program. It is the largest children’s evangelistic program we offer each year. In the next few months, you will see more information on how and when to register your child, and how you can help by donating supplies. We hope that you and your fam-ily will join us for Cave Quest VBS this year!

Calling all VBS volunteers!

Each year the partners and friends at Cornerstone pull together for an amazing adventure during our week-long VBS. We are happy to welcome

back our veteran volunteers and we are always looking to add more volunteers to the team. We hope that you will consider helping with this short-term outreach opportunity.

We need volunteers to help with the following:

•*Crew Leaders who serve as a small group leaders for the week

•*Crew Buddies are youth willing to buddy-up with a younger friend who needs a little extra attention

•Assistant Station Leaders help the station leaders, but no planning is needed

•Registration Helpers check children in each night and point them in the right direction

•Snack Helpers help to prepare and serve the snacks each night

•Decorating Team helps the Decorating Coordinator create, assemble, and tear down the decorations for the week

•Photographer spends the week snapping photos of the kiddos having a blast

•Set-up Crew helps with all the set-up right before VBS begins

•Media Crew runs the AV equipment during the opening and closing ceremonies each night

* Denotes a job that requires the volunteer to commit for the entire week (Sunday through Thursday).

If you are interested in helping with any of these jobs, please contact Stephanie Morris ([email protected] or 991-6672) ASAP. Any volunteers working directly with children will need to undergo a background check before VBS begins. Don’t miss this opportunity to connect with the children in our community and share the love of Jesus!

White tube socks needed for VBS

Do you have some old white tube socks hanging out in the back of your sock drawer? If

you are ready to part with them (even the single, lonely ones without their match), we can use them for a VBS activity. Please bring them to the CAVE starting in June.

Time to register!

Registration is now open! Check the church’s website for a link to online registration or reg-

ister in person starting in June in the CAVE.

New Children’s Church electronic sign-in coming soon!

Thank you for your patience as we change from paper sign-in to electronic sign-in. Soon you will be seeing more information and paperwork to

collect needed information to make the sign-in run more smoothly. We are doing our best to implement this within the next few weeks. Until then, please continue to sign your children in and out of Children’s Church each Sunday.

New Children’s Ministry opportunity!

Interested in helping with Children’s Ministry on a regular basis but not sure where to start? Or, perhaps you would like to help but are reluctant to miss the Sunday worship

service? We are looking for friendly faces willing to serve as Children’s Ministry Greeters each week. Greeters will help families find the right classroom for their kiddos and help with the check-in process each week. You will only be needed for the beginning of the service … so you won’t miss Pastor David’s message! If you are interested, please contact Stephanie Morris ([email protected] or 991-6672).

VBS materials needed!

We need your help collecting materials for our Cave Quest VBS. Starting in June, you will see our registration CAVE in the lobby. At the CAVE

will be colorful collection forms detailing items needed for VBS. If you are able, please take a few forms and purchase the items listed and return them to the CAVE by July 1. It is extremely important that you also return the collection form attached to the donation. Most items can be found at a dol-lar store. Thanks for your help!

Church phonesA man from Wisconsin decided to write a book about churches around the country. He started by flying to San Francisco, and started working east from there. Going to a very large church, he began taking photographs and making notes.

He spotted a golden telephone on the vestibule wall and was intrigued with a sign which read “$10,000 a minute.” Seeking out the pastor he asked about the phone. The pastor answered that this golden phone is, in fact, a direct line to Heaven and if he pays the price he can talk directly to God.

The man thanked the pastor and continued on his way. As he continued to visit churches in Denver, Des Moines, Dubuque, St. Louis, Chicago, even east to Raleigh and Gary and he found more phones, with the same sign, and got the same answer from each pastor.

Finally, he arrived in Macungie, Pennsylvania, and upon enter-ing a church he saw the usual golden telephone. But THIS time, the sign read “Calls: 25 cents”! Fascinated, he asked to talk to the pastor. “Reverend, I have been in cities all across the country and in each church, I have found this golden telephone and have been told it is a direct line to Heaven and that I could talk to God, but, in the other churches the cost was $10,000 a minute. Your sign reads 25 cents a call. Why?”

The pastor, smiling, replied, “Son, you’re in Pennsylvania now. This is God’s country … it’s a local call.”

Follow along

We’re offering an interactive way for you to follow along with the Sunday morning sermons

through a FREE App and Web site called You Version. Go to youversion.com for the Bible portion of the program, and youversion.com/live where you’ll type in our zip code (17020) for the ability to fol-low along with the sermon on your iPhone while Pastor David delivers the message. It’s a great way to get into the Word and follow the messages. Check it out!

Need a new box of offering envelopes? Just stop by the Welcome Center on Sunday

mornings and pick up a box.

VBS–Everest

As you waste your breath complaining about life, someone out there is breathing their last. Appreciate what you have. Be thankful and stop complaining. Live more, complain less. Have more smiles, less stress.
