December, 2014, was awarded a three month Ernst Mach Post- Doctorial Scholarship to work
on a research project entitled, “Understanding Children’s Literature in Kenya” by the Austrian
Government at the Institute of African Studies, University of Vienna, Austria. This will take
place from 4th May- 30, July, 2015.
October, 2012, granted US dollars 1000 travel grant from Kenyatta University to attend a
conference in Dar es Salaam on 50 years of Kiswahili as a language of African Liberation,
Unification and Renaissance organized by the Institute of Swahili Studies, University of Dar

13. ACADEMIC LEADERSHIP
13.1. In Kenyatta University
2011: Appointed by the Chairman, Kiswahili Department as a member of the committee that will
advise on the implementation of Kiswahili as an official language in the university after the
promulgation of the Constitution 2010.
2010: Participated in developing and reviving new programs in the Department such as the teaching
of Children's Literature.
13.2. External to Kenyatta University
2011: Designed a Diploma course curriculum: Communication Skills in Kiswahili for the Kenya
Institute of Administration (KIA).
2006: Designed a module for the Bachelor of Education Degree entitled, Mofolojia ya Kiswahili
for The Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA).
14. CONTRIBUTION TO UNIVERSITY ADVANCEMENT
Organized and coordinated a one day Alumni workshop that was funded by OEAD- Austria
and brought the Kenyan OEAD scholars to Kenyatta University.

4th-5th April, 2012: Participated in a workshop for the development of Arabic programme for the
Institute of African Studies.
Appointed as Internal Examiner by The Dean, Graduate School, for Mr. Orangi Douglas
Ondara’s M.A thesis entitled: A Needs Analysis of Business English Programme for Tour
Guide Diploma students in Kenya.”
Participated as a Rapporteur during the 25th Postgraduate Seminar Presentation on the theme:
“Applying Research to Regional Challenges of leadership and Citizenship.”
From 1997 to now: Participated as a part time lecturer for other university programs such as
Institutional Based Programs (IBP) and Open and Distant learning (ODEL).
Involved in writing Kiswahili Modules for the University, AKS 100 Introduction to the Study of
language and AKS 400: Sociolinguistics.
15. INITIATING RESEARCH PROJECT
2011: Submitted a proposal entitled “ The status of Children’s Literature and its Role in Primary
Teacher training Colleges in Kenya” to Austrian partnership Program in Higher Education and
Research for Development 2010 -2014 (APPER). Still awaiting communication.
