PREFACE
No different V.24 cables for different lengths are needed anymore. You can just pick the right
connection box and connect it with a standard 8 wire ISDN cable with RJ45 connectors. The
standard connection boxes 3...8 covers 90% of all V.24 cables. To cover the other 10%, a
connection assembly kit is available.
CPS systems are not described in this manual, only V.24 connections between currently
delivered products will be included. V.24 connections with the rarely used ring signal are not
supported by connection boxes.

See the figure on page 23 for the connections you have to make in the Assembly Kit to connecta typical Epson printer.
1.3. DCC CONNECTIONS
Barrier Boxes
In some situations a galvanic insulation between the DCC and the external connection is
required. This is done by a Barrier Box type MA-52 (Europe, with 9-pin D connector) or
MV24-11 (United Kingdom, with 25-pin D connector). If Barrier Box MA-52 is used, two 25-
pins to 9-pins convertors will be necessary to be able to use the connection boxes.
Note: The Barrier Boxes are connected the other way around than described in the DECT
Manual.
Position of Barrier Boxes
The Barrier Box is positioned between the F122-25 pins cable and the Connection box in this
section. However, the Barrier Box can be positioned between DCC and F122 connector
instead (the build-in barrier box (BBR).

2. V.24 CONNECTIONS NOT SUPPORTED BY
CONNECTOR BOXES
The following cables will NOT be supported by this method, because they are either :
- very special and delivered with the product, or
- very standard so no connection box is needed.
Short straight/flat cables for connecting a local modem, LAM or TOPS box.
All cables with 9 pins D-connectors : use the 25 pins concept together with a standard 25
pins to 9 pins adapter.
Cables from CIU/CIM/CIS/CIR-RM Z8000 processor will be succeeded by the CSM
processor (and BIM).CPU-ME/MT to dongle : use cable with 12 NC 9562 162 48100.
CPU-ME/MT dongle to SSM-MPC : use cable with 12 NC 9562 162 47100.
SLAM to Modem (convertor, SLU) : see SOPHO-LAM P375 Customer Engineer Manual.
BIM 9 pins to 25 pins : use cable with 12 NC 9562 161 59000.
BIM dongle cable : use cable with 12 NC 9562 162 75000.
BIM dongle to terminal (0.5 m) : use cable with 12 NC 9562 162 84000.
SSM-UNIX to UPS : use cable delivered with the UPS.
SSV50, SSV50E/S and SSV55 cables : these supervisors will be succeeded by SSV60 (see
the list of cables that are supported).
BIM to TOPS box cable : not used.

3. CONCEPT OF THE CONNECTION BOXES
To standardise all V.24 cables, a number of connection boxes is developed. These boxes end
the necessity to use special cables; you just use two connection boxes and a standard RJ45cable (standard ISDN cable). For less common connections an assembly kit is available which
enables you to make the connections yourself in the box instead of in the connectors.
The concept is very easy; connect A with B by:
1. Connecting A to a Connection Box (type 3 to 8 or assembly kit)
2. Connecting B to a Connection Box (type 1 or 2)
3. Connecting both connection boxes with a standard RJ45 cable of needed length.
Figure 3-1 Concept of the Connection Boxes
If a standard straight cable is too short, you can use connection boxes 1 and 2 to cross the
distance using a standard RJ45 cable.
Figure 3-2 Use of connection boxes 1 and 2 to cover a long straight connection

- RJ45 connector with 8 short wires connected;
- 25 pins male D-connector;
- 25 pins female connector.
The assembly Kit can be used to make the connections not covered by the 8 standard
connection boxes. The wires connected to RJ45 Female connector are not yet connected to
the 25 pins connector to enable you to connect the wires to the right pins.

3.2. 25 PINS TO 9 PINS CONVERTORS
Additional convertors from 25 pins to 9 pins are available:
- 25 pins Male to 9 pins Female, 12 NC: 9562 165 77000;
- 25 pins Female to 9 pins Male, 12 NC: 9562 165 78000.
3.3. RJ45 CABLE
The RJ45 cable (also called ISDN cable) is a straight cable with two RJ45 connectors.
