WILL I NEED A SUSPENSION UPGRADE WHEN FITTING MY SERVICE BODY?We believe that your safety is top priority. Overloading your vehicle can pose serious issues with handling and braking characteristics of

a modern vehicle. Caddy Storage has up-to-date data to allow you to determine when you need a simple suspension upgrade or a more

complex GVM upgrade. If you exceed the GVM of your vehicle, serious consequences can occur with the legalities of your vehicle and how

your vehicle performs. There are many characteristics that will determine if you need any upgrades, all will depend on your individual needs

and modifications done to your vehicle, this is a complex scenario and should be taken up with our friendly sales team.

All vehicles have a GVM (Gross Vehicle Mass) set by the manufacturer of the vehicle, the GVM is the maximum mass that can be used within

the safe working limits of a particular vehicle. If your vehicle - when loaded with people, goods or freight including accessories exceeds the

GVM you will need a GVM Upgrade. If you are still within the GVM and your ride height has dropped, a suspension upgrade may also suit

your requirements. From our simple test below, our experienced Fleet Manager recommends that if you are loading over 300kg worth of items

(dependent on your vehicle) , it is strongly recommended that you purchase a suspension upgrade.

Please note that the following measurements and weights are approximate. The following tests were performed on a 2017 Ford

Ranger PX (Dual Cab) with an aluminium checkerplate service body. Vehicle weights and measure will depend on the exact model

being used.

Test #1 - Service body loaded with 500kg weights. Measurement from floor to rear of service body was 841mm high.





Test #6 - Service body loaded with no weights. Measurement from floor to rear of service body was 910mm high.

If you are still unsure what you require you have the option to load up your vehicle and then take it to a Pedder’s Suspension Store for a tow

and load inspection, from this they will give you the varying options and you can make an informed decision what suits your individual needs the

best. They can advise the advantages of an upgrade and if you require one, this information will vary for every vehicle scenario. If in doubt call

our team for the latest specification for your vehicle .

To comply with the Vehicle Standard (Australian Design Rule – Definitions and Vehicle

Categories) 2005 Compilation 4, you must consider the following:

“NORMAL LOADED VEHICLE MASS (of a passenger vehicle) - the sum of: the ‘Unladen

Mass’ together with: the heaviest regular production options, if such individual options

have a mass of 2.3 kg or more; plus 68 kg for each of 2 front ‘Seat’ occupants; plus if the

designated ‘Seating Capacity’ is 5 or more, 68 kg for a rear ‘Seat’ passenger.”

It is the law that every vehicle must operate within the GVM specified by the manufacturer. Failure to adhere to this can deem the vehicle

unroadworthy and has other potential consequences including WHS and insurance compliance issues as well as penalties from the police and

state licensing authorities. Are you aware that in a serious accident, if your vehicle is overloaded there could be ramifications with insurance

companies and the law.
