In the inaugural year of 1924 there were 16 qualifiers for match play from the qualifying round held at one of the outings over the Braids. The following year this was reduced to eight qualifiers and this format remained in place until 1960. Qualification continued over the Braids until 1957 when it switched to the Spring Outing at Gullane. In 1961 there was no competition due to a lack of entries. As a result the format changed to stroke play in 1962, with the Club Champion was decided by the lowest scratch aggregate over the morning round of the Spring and Autumn meeting at Gullane. In 1986 the Championship changed to its current format, with the best four scores from the Spring Outing at Gullane playing off by match play. The Championship trophy also has a varied history. Initially a medal was given to the winner. In 1927 the first President, J Forrest Home presented the Home Trophy for the Club Championship, although it is not clear when this ceased to be presented. In 1952, President A Todd donated the Championship Medal which is played for today. Originally it was attached to a ribbon with the winners names attached on metal bars. In 1971 the medal and bars were mounted on wooden plinth by the Captain Derek Sneddon. In 1992, Captain David Hopley, in conjunction with member Jack Millar, redesigned the wooden base, remounted the medal and bars and introduced the crystal bowl. Adam Trophy

The Adam Trophy is Caermount's oldest surviving cup, having being donated in 1940 by Clarence Adam. Awarded To the best scratch aggregate of first rounds at Spring and Autumn outings at Gullane. It was originally awarded to the person with the lowest aggregate nett total over three outings. In 1962 it changed to be the best nett aggregate over the first round at the Spring and Autumn outings at Gullane. In order to avoid multiple winners of the Adam Trophy with the Ballantyne, Sneddon & Williams trophies, the format was changed in 1998 to the best scratch aggregate over the same outings.

Ballantyne Trophy

The Ballantyne Trophy was donated in 1970 by Walter Ballantyne, who was Captain from 1939-40 and President from 1969 to 1988. It was originally decided over the best 3 nett scores for the season. At least three outings had to be attended, but 2 scores could come from the same outing. In 1972, the current format was introduced, with the best four nett scores from any outing. In 1975 the competition changed from being based against par to standard scratch. It is not clear how long this lasted, but par again became the measure through the 1980s and 1990s. In 2000 the basis of the measurement reverted to standard scratch.

Jubilee Salver

Awarded to the best nett stableford score at Duddingston

Donated in 1974 by the Club to mark its 50th anniversary at a cost of £14. It was originally awarded for the best nett score over the Braids. In 1982 it was played for over Deer Park before returning to the Braids the following year. After the demise of the Braids outing in 1991, the Salver was re-introduced at Aylith in its current format in 1994. In 2000 the Aylith outing was moved to King's Acre, which was subsequently washed out so it was not presented in that year. In 2001 therefore it was awarded for the first time at King's Acre and the format changed to Stableford. In 2006, after failing to win it for the 4th time in a row the previous year, new Captain Bill Alexander moved it to his home course of Duddingston.

Lost & Found Tankard

Awarded to the best nett score at Monktonhall

This Trophy was originally the first Sneddon Tankard until it was 'lost' in 1979 at the Annual Dinner and 'found' in 1981. By then a replacement Sneddon Tankard had been obtained and the original was re-christened and first played for at the West Linton outing in 1982.

It was originally played as a stableford in the first year, before changing to strokeplay in 1983. In 2004 the competition was moved to Cardrona and promptly washed out! In 2006, it moved to Craigielaw, then Kinross in 2007, Kings Acre in 2008 & 2009 then Bruntsfield in 2010. From 2015 the event moved to Monktonhall.

Challenge Tankard

Awarded to the best scratch score at Monktonhall

Doug Smith, who was Secretary from 1985-89, donated the Challenge Tankard in 1985. It was originally played as a three-club challenge over the Braids. After two years the other 11 clubs were permitted and it became a stableford competition over first Lothianburn (1988), Ratho Park (1989) and Deer Park (1990-93). In 1994 the outing moved to Aylith and the Tankard was now awarded for the best scratch score. In 2000, the West Linton outing was re-established to replace the Aylith outing and the Challenge Tankard awarded to the best scratch prize at that outing. However the 2000 outing was cancelled, so it was first awarded at West Linton in 2001. In 2004 the competition was moved to Cardrona, although the first year was washed out! In 2006, it moved to Craigielaw followed by Kinross in 2007 before heading to Kings Acre for 2 years and then Brunstfield in 2010 for five years. In 2015 the event moved to Monktonhall.
