Café Strategy 3 Ways We Read: Read pictures Read words Retell story (beginning, middle, end) Daily Five This week we continued building independence for our reading workshop. We practiced building stamina for “Read to Self.” We also launched our Writing Workshop! You received a list in your Open House Packet. You can also access words on my webpage. Instruction begins in a few weeks. I Can Reading: I can retell a story using pictures. I can tell the beginning, middle and end of a story. Writing: I can write letters in my name. I can write/illustrate/tell a story using beginning, middle and end details. Math: I can “subitize” and use 1:1 correspondence (careful counting)! I can understand numbers and quantities. I can count forward from a given number (other than 1) in sequence. Important Info This week students received their IXL passwords. IXL is a fantastic site we have a district membership to. IXL can be accessed through my website. Please be sure to visit IXL for skill practice 3-4 times a week. Picture Make Ups are September 29th. REMINDERS: Scholastic Book Order Forms went home this week. Orders are due in class (checks only please) or online by September 25 th . September Homework Wednesday, September 30 th . Please be sure to read the contents in Kindergarten Connections Be sure to join me on the REMIND ap so you can get reminders for important things! Please contact me if you need a new direction sheet. We had our Vision and Hearing checked by our school nurses this week. Mrs. I., an O.T., visited our class to do some fun activities using our “go” and “stop” fingers. Please see her handout for more great information on using a pencil grasp. Author Carolyn Crimi will visit us on October 15 th ! We completed our first round of MAP testing this week! Daily Five This week we continued building independence for our reading workshop. We practiced building stamina for “Read to Self.”

Important Information

• Jolly Phonics: Please be sure to review the sounds we have covered thus far DAILY, 3 x a day with your child. Please assist your child in completing the Sound Sheet in their journal DAILY to reinforce finding the letter in words and writing the letter.

• David Stocker Assembly is Monday, September 28th from 1:30-2:30.

• A look ahead: • No Kindergarten on Thursday, October 8th due

to early dismissal for School Improvement Day• No school Friday, October 9th due to Teacher

• Please note that if you need to contact me about a change in pick up etc. it is best to do at least the day before. I do not have the opportunity to check email regularly throughout the day since I am teaching. If something changes later than 8 am please either send me a note with your child or contact the office so they can let me know.
