The Basic Workings of CAIThe Common Assessment System will generate both an assessment-based placement
recommendation and a recommendation based on the Multiple Measures Assessment Project (MMAP) decision trees. Whichever placement is to the student's advantage (the highest of the two), is the ultimate placement recommendation the student will receive.
The Common Assessment System will contain test preparation, delivery, administration, data collection, and course placement guidance.
Each campus has the freedom to set when and how the test will be administered.Mapping to local curriculum, placement, and re-testing policies are up to the college. Campuses choose where to place students based on assessment results and multiple measures
of their choosing.
When Do We Start?-SBVC Adoption Semester (students start testing on the new system) = Spring 2018-SBVC Placement Semester (first semester to be placed from Adoption semester) =Fall 2018Source: https://www.cccassess.org/timeline-update

Placing students too high can lead to shame, fear, frustration, withdrawal and may overburden instructors with great amounts of additional assistance.
Placing students too lowcan lead to boredom, apathy, and classroom disruption from lack of engagement.
Highly functioning assessment systems need to identify multiple factors that predict classroom performance.
When students are misaligned, college course completion rates fall, and efficiency decreases across the college.

Historically, tests alone have had relatively low predictive validity.
