Potentate’s Page Nobles & Ladies,

Lady Sena and I hope you are enjoying this unusually warm January and February as much as we are. It sure isn’t doing much for our snowpack though!

As you read this, the elected Divan will have just returned from the winter PNSA business session in Mountlake Terrace, Washington. At our visitation meetings with the clubs this month, we will share what we learned with you.

In keeping with our theme of “One Team - One Purpose”, I have spoken with Spokane Hospital personnel, Hospital Representatives and discussed with the Divan how Calam can best support our Spokane Hospital. While direct cash donations to the hospital are always welcome, they have the potential to affect the hospital’s budget set by Imperial. The hospital must raise a certain amount of funds on their own each year, but any amount that is raised or donated over the amount set by Imperial goes to Tampa. We have learned that the most efficient way to keep the fruits of our efforts local is to donate for a specific piece of equipment or technology that the hospital needs and is not budgeted for by Imperial.

Spokane Shriners Hospital for Children is in need of an EOS 3D Orthopedic Imaging Machine. This machine provides full-body images of patients in a natural standing or seated position in both 2D and 3D, while delivering a radiation dose reported to be 9 times lower than that of computed radiation technology X-rays and 20 times lower than basic CT scans. Visitations

Illustrious Sir George Blickenstaff-Calam Potentate 2015

Calam Shrine’s Vidalia Onion Sale 2015 Nobles and Ladies, we are happy to an-nounce that Calam Shriners is taking orders for our upcoming annual Vidalia Onion Sale. Yup, we’re going back to Vidalia’s for 2015, and this time with a spoilage clause, too!!!! Our sweet and tasty onions will arrive fresh from the fields of Vidalia County, Georgia on or around the end of the first week in May. Spokane Hospital or the Calam Travel Fund. The only exception would be if a club or unit plans a food drive for the hospital. With all of Calam working together as a team towards these goals, we will make a much greater impact in helping the Spokane Hospital achieve its needs.

At visitation we will discuss fundraising in more depth as we have some housekeeping matters to deal with in terms of protocol and Shrine Law and rules set by Impe-rial that we must comply with.

In other news, Noble Tim Helmke has been appointed as Calam’s newly created Social Media Chairman. He has been working to consolidate a couple of Facebook pages that had been under Calam’s name. We now have one official Facebook page at: www.facebook.com/calam.shrine. Clubs, units, and Nobles are free to visit and post information and photos of your activities on the new, official Calam Shrine Facebook page. Let’s share with each other what we are doing!

Calam’s website is also in the process of being redes-igned and it should be up and running soon. The website will eventually have an up-to-date calendar of Calam events, as well as links to important information such as announcements, PNSA, the Clarion, Bylaws, Shiners In-ternational, and important documents for clubs and units. Best of all, Calam will control it directly with no more monthly hosting fees or costs to update information.

I was hoping to have news for you on the ATV Fun Run in the Silver Valley by now. The sponsor, Valley Power Sports of Pinehurst, is waiting on word from their corpo-rate sponsor on the donation of the grand prize, so no date has been set yet or tickets printed. As soon as we have the information and the raffle tickets available, will be calling on all Calam Shriners to jump in and support this fantastic event that has and continues to provide so much for our Travel Fund.

Please don’t forget to plan your Vidalia onion sales! If every Noble will commit to sell at least a few boxes, this event will be hugely successful. Please get together, make your commitments, and have your orders ready to go at visitation.

I also have many tickets still available for the wonderful gift baskets Lady Sena put together to raise funds for clubs and units travel to PNSA this summer. Please con-tact me to help support this fund raiser that benefits Calam directly and buy and/or sell tickets!

A final note…the date and place of the second quarterly meeting scheduled for April 27th in Sandpoint has been changed. We will now meet in Lewiston, April 11th so that we can vote on the new Temple bylaws as required by Imperial. Details are elsewhere in this edition.of the Clarion. The Quarterly Meeting will start @ 11:00 AM so that those of us who must travel can make it back home within the light of day.

In closing, Lady Sena and I thank you for the opportunity to serve you. May God bless Calam and all Shriners, our hospitals and our kids. One team in 2015!

Yours in Faith, George George A. Blickenstaff, Potentate

The Chief’s Corner  The first order of business is an apology to the Nobility for missing the January issue of the Clarion.  Hopefully I won’t miss any future issues. For those of you who never got the word the year of 2015 had a rocky start for me. I did man‐age to attend the General meeting and was installed as your Chief Rabban.  An honor that I am proud to assume and will do my very best to fill those shoes.

On January 5, 2015 I had a heart cath procedure done and got the great news that open heart surgery would be on Jan 14th at Sacred Heart in Spokane.  Spent about six days there and then on to the rehab hospital in Post Falls  until Jan 31st.  I am cur‐rently attending Cardiac Rehab at Kootenai Medical Center in Coeur d’ Alene.  I am not the only Shriner patient there; Past Imperial Potentate Robert Turnipseed and Noble Wally Adams also spend a few hours per week pumping iron.

By the time this reaches you Winter PNSA will have come and gone. These meetings are more work than play and give us some insight into what is happening in our realm as well as  time to compare notes with our counterparts and exchange some new ideas. I am glad that I was well enough to attend.

I also plan to attend the Assistant Rabban Seminar in Tampa March 9 thru 11. My time was cut short last year by an emergency at home. This trip will be on my dime but I am sure that it will be worth the time and effort.
