What is Calcium?• Calcium is reactive

and soft for a metal. • It can be cut with a

knife.

• Calcium is a silvery-white, hard alkaline-earth metal that occurs in limestone and gypsum.

•Calcium was discovered in 1808 by Sir Humphrey Davy in England.

•Calcium comes from the Latin word calsis (lime).

Where Is Calcium Found?• Calcium is found in

rocks, chalk, and seashells.

• It is found in the bones, muscles, and nerves of animals and in many different plants.

• There is a lot of calcium in milk and other dairy products.

• There is a lot of calcium in Orange Juice.

• There is also a good amount of calcium in green leafy vegetables.

• They are also located in Salmons.

Facts about Calcium• About 99% of the

calcium in your body is stored in your bones and teeth. It's what keeps your bones and teeth strong.

• If you don’t get enough calcium your bones and teeth won't have enough calcium, and they'll become weak and brittle.

• Calcium isn't found free in nature, but it can be purified into a soft silvery-white metal.

Uses of Calcium By Humans• Calcium compounds are

absolutely necessary for teeth and bones.
