WELCOME BACK

ENROLLING

A student must meet the age requirements as mandated by the Kentucky Department of Education. School attendance is compulsory in KY for children between the ages of 6 and 16. To begin entry level, a child must be five years old on or be- fore October 1. To be eligible for first year Primary, a child must have successfully completed entry level and be six years old on or before October 1. An official copy of the student’s birth certificate and Social Security card is required for registration. The state requires all children entering a KY school for the first time to present a valid immunization certificate and physical examination form. Students who transfer from out- of-state districts are allowed 30 days to meet immunization requirements after presenting out-of-state immunization re- cords. Also, out-of-state students must have another physical recorded on KY state forms. Registration for classes is handled at the school which the student will attend. Pre-registration for entry level is held each spring and again in August prior to the opening of school. Parents who do not pre-register their children should register them at their local school prior to the first day of classes. The dates are announced through the media. For more information, call Pupil Personnel at 606-327-2706, ext.2715.

THE CODE OF ACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOR AND DISCIPLINE

The code of Acceptable Behavior and Discipline has been developed to help ensure a stable learning climate, to provide a clear set of regulations governing the behavior of students, to establish guidelines for certain infractions of the regula- tions, and to clarify formal and informal procedural due process rights. The Ashland Independent School District pledges to respect the rights and feelings of students, parents, guardians and educators, to provide the best possible educational experiences for all students in a safe and nurturing environment, and to administer the discipline code in a firm, fair and consistent manner. A copy of the code is distributed to each student at the be- ginning of each school year. In addition, parents must sign that they have received/seen the Code of Acceptable Behavior and Discipline and must return this affirmation to their child’s school. For more information contact your child’s principal or Student Services at 606-327-2706, ext. 2728.

BLENDED PRESCHOOL PROGRAM

Head Start is a federally-funded program providing preschool for children (ages 3- 5) who meet income eligibility guidelines or criteria for having a disability. A comprehensive program is designed to meet their educational, emotional, social, health, nutritional, cultural, and psycho- logical needs. An essential part of every Head Start program is the involvement of families in parent education, program planning and activities. State Funded Preschool offers services that promote the physical, intellectual, social and emotional development of 3-4 year old children in a developmentally- appropriate setting. This program is for children who: - are 4 years old by October 1 and whose families meet income eligibil- ity guidelines. - are three years old or older who have a disability.

For more information, call 327-2715.
