Holy Family Day School:Check off your To-Do List for the Fall! Make sure your preschooler or Kindergartener has a spot in the Day School this fall. Registration for the fall of 2016 is well underway! Please call the office at 757-481-1180 if you have any questions or would like to schedule a tour. The Day School offers classes from 8:30-11:30 a.m. for students ages 30 months through Kindergarten. Kindergarten students often attend afternoon classes at John B. Dey, Alanton, or Trantwood after their morning class here! You may visit our website for further details at www.holyfamilydayschool.org. Classes are filling quickly and we would love to hear from you! We also have a Facebook page that is updated frequently with activities that the children participate in and photos of their lovely artwork. Lent and Haiti:Lent is a time for praying and thinking of others. Our Day School students are doing extra chores at home to help the children of St. Jude, in Baptiste, Haiti be free. Free to go to school, learn, and grow to someday help someone else! When they bring in their “change” the students describe their efforts to help and then add their coins to the collection. At the conclusion of Lent, we will add up all the “efforts” and donate them to the Haiti ministry. When seventy-five children spend forty days helping around the house, we will ultimately be helping make our world a better place!

Thank You!We appreciate your continued support in our efforts to earn money for the Day School by collecting Box Tops for Education! In January, we received a check for over $500.00!

“CARE FOR OUR EARTH:” The Clean Power Plan, which requires states to reduce their carbon emissions by a specified percentage, has to be submitted to the EPA by this fall. According to the Southern Environmental Law Center, Virginia is well on its way to meeting its Clean Power Plan target. This means that Virginians will enjoy the immense benefits offered by the plan if it is implemented. Among them are: • Job creation – Virginia has seen a 157% increase in solar jobs

since 2012 (thesolarfoundation.org/solarstates/Virginia). • Lower electricity bills – By meeting the Clean Power Plan goals,

household electric bills will be lowered by up to 8% and Virginia will receive over half a billion dollars in carbon reduction benefits.

• Protection of our coastal areas, which are endangered by sea level rise – Hampton Roads already has the highest level of sea level rise along the East Coast and, also, climate change-related forces are expected to destroy 79% of Virginia beaches (www.demos.org/sites/default/files/publications/Va_ClimateChangeInTheStates_Demos.pdf).

• Healthier communities – Fossil fuel-powered plants threaten public health. A recent Harvard study shows that Virginia ranks among the top 13 states in public health gains pending the implementation of the Clean Power Plan.

From the side of the Plan’s proponents it is a win-win situation!Ed Marroni (587-4887)Holy Family Parish Environmental Committee
