We hope that you find this year’s Comprehensive Staff Calendar useful. As always, the staff calendar is packed with important dates to remember and systemwide information.

Please note: this year’s calendar has the combined dates for Traditional Calendar Schools, as well as the two Innovative Calendar Schools (Arcola ES and Roscoe R. Nix ES). Dates and events that apply to only traditional calendar schools will be denoted with [TRADITIONAL SCHOOLS ONLY]. Dates and events that apply only to Arcola ES and Nix ES will be denoted with [INNOVATIVE SCHOOLS ONLY].

An interactive version of this calendar also can be found online through the MCPS calendar tool. The tool is customizable and users are able to “build their own calendar” based on select categories. You can view the days schools are open and closed, Board of Education meeting information, fine arts events, cultural and religious holidays, and much more. The calendar can be displayed by month or up to 12 months at a time. You can download it on your computer or mobile device in iCal format to Outlook or other calendar programs. The calendar can be accessed from the homepage of the MCPS website or directly at www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/calendar/.

Have an outstanding school year!

WELCOME TO THE 2019–2020 SCHOOL YEAR!

Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) prohibits illegal discrimination based on race, ethnicity, color, ancestry, national origin, religion, immigration status, sex, gender, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, family/parental status, marital status, age, physical or mental disability, poverty and socioeconomic status, language, or other legally or constitutionally protected attributes or affiliations. Discrimination undermines our community’s long-standing efforts to create, foster, and promote equity, inclusion, and acceptance for all. Some examples of discrimination include acts of hate, violence, insensitivity, harassment, bullying, disrespect, or retaliation. For more information, please review Montgomery County Board of Education Policy ACA, Nondiscrimination, Equity, and Cultural Proficiency. This Policy affirms the Board’s belief that each and every student matters, and in particular, that educational outcomes should never be predictable by any individual’s actual or perceived personal characteristics. The Policy also recognizes that equity requires proactive steps to identify and redress implicit biases, practices that have an unjustified disparate impact, and structural and institutional barriers that impede equality of educational or employment opportunities.

The Montgomery County Government and the Montgomery County Faith Community Advisory Council have developed Days of Commemoration calendars to display many of the cultural and religious celebrations that are important to members of our community . The calendars are available online at www.montgomerycountymd.gov/mcg/commemorations.html and http://montgomerycountyinterfaithmd.org/cultural-religious-observences/

Principals are asked to be aware of community needs when scheduling major events, and to be sensitive to students who may observe some of the cultural and religious celebrations listed on this calendar . These students may require individual arrangements, as deemed appropriate, through collaboration among parents, teachers, and administrators . For more information about accommodating the needs of students, please see the Guidelines for Respecting Religious Diversity on the MCPS website .
