Communication between home and schoolLeanne Kemp, Relieving Principal

Teamwork between parents, teachers and school is vital for student and school success. It was wonderful to see all the parents who were able to make our Meet-the-Teacher Night on Tuesday. This was your opportunity to contact your child’s teacher and hear about the class routines they have put into place for 2021. If you have any questions about your child’s class or need to clarify anything with the class teacher, please use our well-established communication methods, calling the office or using Class Dojo. As was discussed on Tuesday evening, the teachers will endeavour to get back to you with an answer but please don’t expect an immediate reply as the teachers are committed to their core business, teaching your child.

In this busy world it is becoming more and more important to plan our days so we can do the best in what we do. With the technology available to us now such as emailing and SMS, we expect an answer immediately, a reply straight away and we become agitated if we don’t get it. What we really need is time. COMMUNICATION BETWEENHOME AND SCHOOL ... from Page 1

P&C NewsCongratulations to our new executive committee:

9 President - Maryann Murdoch 9 Vice Presidents - Gina Blyton and Karlie Tongue 9 Secretary - Rebecca McDonald 9 Treasurer - Donna Murphy 9 Canteen and Clothing Pool Convenor - Leesa Mackenzie 9 Social Medial Coordinator - Joanne Jones 9 We Care Coordinator - Leesa Mackenzie 9 School Banking Coordinator - Rebecca McDonald 9 Fundraising Coordinator - vacant)

Unfortunately our numbers were down at the AGM, and in order to form a committee some parents have undertaken more than one role. If you were unable to make the meeting but would still like to become an active member, we invite you to the next meeting on Wednesday 10 March to assist in the running of the association.

You will notice that the position of Fundraising Coordinator is vacant - if you would like to fill this role, we would love to hear from you!

Without a committee, services such as the canteen and clothing pool will cease to exist. Funds will not be provided for extra resources, funding and assistance for our children.

Please reach out to [email protected] if you would like more information on how you can lend a hand, or to request a P&C membership form.

probably best if you made a time when you and your child’s teacher could sit down and discuss the issue in detail without other distractions. Catching them just as they are just about to go to class does not give them an opportunity to give you the time your questions deserve.

Staff are always prepared to talk to you about your child’s progress at school at a mutually convenient time, so please call the school office and make a time to talk to your child’s teacher. Let them know how long you think you’ll need and when the best time for you would be. It would also be helpful if you could let them know beforehand what it is you wish to discuss so they are better informed.

The teamwork that has developed between teachers and parents over the years at Nemingha Public School is valued. Together our children’s best interests will be met and they will flourish in our care.

Notes homeNemingha School prides itself on communication using the red folder system.

Please ensure your child brings their red folder every day and that it is checked every afternoon for new notes. We have also added copies of notes to Class Dojo so you can see what has gone home, as well as listed the notes home in Newslink. If for some reason your child misplaces a note please contact the office, not the class teacher, as they do not have spare copies in their rooms.

We hope this addition to the communication routine assists you and allows you to keep up to date with the happenings at NPS.

School CouncilThank you to those parents who have offered themselves for nomination as parent representatives on the School Council.

To date we have received two nominations for the three available positions. If you would like to nominate, please contact the school office for a nomination form.

The School Council makes a valued contribution to the operation of the school and I encourage any interested parents to put their name forward.

Nominations should be submitted by Wednesday 3 March.

Health and wellbeingIf your child is experiencing any health issues including hearing, sight, physical or mental, please contact the school office so that the appropriate staff can be informed and our records can be updated. It is important that any issues are addressed as early as possible to aid in your child’s learning. If your child has been diagnosed with asthma, allergies or anaphylaxis, we require a signed action plan from your GP. This needs to be updated every year. Please ensure that documentation from your doctor on all medical conditions is supplied to the office.Any medications that may be required during school time are to be sent to school in the original container with dosage and time clearly labelled. A signed Administration of Medications note is to be handed in at the same time to the school office.

Facebook live streamingParents will be aware that, while COVID restrictions prevented parents attending assemblies and other school events, the P&C arranged live streaming to the P&C closed group. To allow live streaming, it was a requirement that we had permission from all parents to photograph their children.

Parents have the right to prohibit any photographs of their children and this year we have a number of parents who have exercised that right.

This means that we are no longer able to live stream any school events which potentially includes children whose parents have asked that their children not be photographed.

Fortunately the COVID restrictions are being relaxed and we welcome parents who would like to attend assemblies and other school events.

We would like to remind parents that it is not appropriate to take unauthorised photos of school activities at any time.
