Principal’s Report

Dear Parents/Carers,

Spring is here! It’s beautiful to see

the warmer weather and our school

looking amazing with the gardens

looking very spectacular.

HATS

With the warmer weather can I please remind parents/carers to

ensure your child has a broad brimmed hat for sun protection.

Please remember our school sun smart policy NO HAT, NO

PLAY. Hats can be purchased from Terry’s Menswear in Guyra.

Unfortunately, our school no longer has any spare hats available

to borrow.

POSITIVE PARTNERSHIPS—CONTACTING PARENTS/CARERS

It is extremely important for our school to be able to contact

parents/carers at any point during the school day. This helps our

school to ensure the safety and wellbeing of your child/children.

In working closely with our families, our teachers and staff enjoy

sharing your child’s successes and a phone call is a great way to

let you know about these successes.

We also may need to provide you with updated information or

any changes to the school day that you need to be aware of.

Should your child be injured at school, we need immediate

access to parent/carers to communicate important information.

Your child/children’s wellbeing is, above all else, our priority!

There are times when we need to contact you about your child’s

absence from school. This phone call regarding attendance, is a

requirement of the Department of Education. Alternatively,

please contact the office to inform us of your child’s absence.

Our Office Manager, Mrs Moore, updates contact details on a

regular basis to ensure the smooth and timely communication

with all families. If any of your contact details have changed

please call the office as soon as possible. We truly appreciate

your understanding and assistance with maintaining effective

communication with the school .

CONGRATULATIONS

Congratulations to our awardees this week—Tyleek Jerrard and

Harley Ferguson! Well done, boys!

Have a lovely week everyone. Enjoy the warmer weather and

sunshine.

Kindest regards,

Mrs Justine Eddy—Relieving Principal.

The senior class has been extremely busy reading about famous explorers such as Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay. These two amazing men climbed Mt Everest and we are beginning to build an informative writing report using the format—Show Don’t Tell.

Our writing on Pobble365 continues to improve with all students planning, writing, editing and sharing. We time our Pobble365 writing session and this is certainly proving to be very popular with everyone. It is designed to encourage dynamic and responsive writing.

We have continued play practice, with intense rehearsals. Mrs Eddy says we have a very talented drama class!

In Maths, we are learning new strategies to solve double digit and triple digit multiplication problems. We are now racing the clock to really learn our times tables.

Mrs Siddell is continuing to teach us drumming. Restrictions because of Covid-19 we are not able to do choir or recorder practice.

Mr Harris is teaching us all about Indonesia in Geography.

For Fathers’ Day last week, we made a card using Seesaw and QR codes to send a message to our Dad’s and Grandfathers. We hope you liked your Fathers’ Day messages.

.

WOW! We have been super busy. We have been

reading Fairytales, looking at how they are

structured, exploring good and bad/evil characters

and describing settings. To finish our Fairytale unit

everyone has written their own Fairytale. I am

extremely proud of each student because of the

persistence they used to publish their stories. We

have read them to our reading buddies and have

now taken them home to read with families.

In Science we have been looking at different

mixtures and substances that mix and don’t mix -

they all loved the cornflour slime.

In Geography we have been placing photos of

important places at school onto a school map and

have drawn maps for the story ‘We’re Going on a

Croc Hunt’.

We are still working hard on our play and have

started thinking about a talent we could show the

whole school for the talent show.

Assembly Awards

Last Thursday we held an in-school assembly.

The students were presented with Principals

Awards, Merits Certificates, Music Awards and

Super Reader Certificates for their great work in the

classroom and resilience in the playground.

Also we presented two very special Education

Week Awards. Eli Wood received a Certificate of

Recognition for his Commitment to Learning and

Leadership in Year 6 and our K-2 Classroom Teacher

Mrs Simone Lord was presented with her Certificate

of Appreciation for her Excellence in Teaching and

Learning.

We’d like to congratulate all our award recipients

for their efforts in all areas of school life.

Pen licences were also

awarded to lucky

students in the 3-6 class

who have demonstrated

that they are

responsible and

competent to use this

device.

Water Bottles

Due to Covid-19 restrictions our bubblers

are still out of action.

As the weather is warming up it is very

important that your child brings a water

bottle of their own to school everyday. This

can be refilled at school if necessary.

Also a reminder, please do not send

poppers or sugary drinks to school as this

sometime makes children more thirsty and

does encourage bees to hang around.

School Uniform

As it is school policy all students must

attend school in school uniform everyday

unless it is a special occasion which you will

be advised of in advance.

Our clothing pool has a vast range of

uniforms available so if you are having

difficulty making sure your child is in

uniform please do not hesitate to contact

the office and we can arrange for

whatever you require to be sent home

depending on size availability.

School Drop Off /Pick Up

In the interest of your child’s health and

safety we are trying to keep visitors on site

at our school to a minimum.

When dropping or picking up your child

could you please say goodbye or wait at

the school front gate.

Please phone the office if you need to

communicate with any staff. A Covid-19

tracking sheet has to be completed by all

personnel who enter our school.
