Dear Parents,

I would like to start by saying a big thank you to all the children and families for making me feel so welcome at Pioneer Village School. It has been a lovely start and I appreciate all the support. To be considered and then chosen for the role as Pioneer Village School Principal was a great honour and privilege. Pioneer Village School has truly excellent and dedicated teachers, and I am looking forward to a lengthy working relationship. I am also really looking forward to building solid relationships with our families in the coming years.

Chanel 7 Visit

We were very privileged to have been chosen by Channel 7 to host the live

weather cross and to have Fat Cat on the school grounds. I know Fat Cat was very

excited to be able to visit Fat Cat’s cottage and meet our boys and girls. I was very

impressed with the manner in which our boys and girls represented Pioneer Village

School on live television, their smiles radiated while they stood as quietly as can be

during filming. We raised almost $600 through our CRAZY HAIR DAY (and boy

were there some crazy hairdos!) and it was wonderful to reach Telethon’s target of

$500.

Book Week

What a busy week it was! Each day was filled with exciting and engaging learning

opportunities. Students enjoyed dressing up as their favourite book character for

the parade, completing a book related activity each day, as well as engaging in a

whole host of other activities. There was a lovely assembly item from Mrs Flood’s

Year 2/3 class, a coding/robotics incursion, a visit from St John’s to teach basic

First Aid, a Year 3/4 sustainability excursion and a SciTech incursion! Thank you

also to the families who donated books, and to those who purchased them.

School Reviews

Thank you to all families who have written a positive online Google review. If you

haven’t yet reviewed us and are able to, please spare a moment to do so. These

reviews really do enable the public to read about what a great school we are, and

learn about the high quality teachers and programs we have here.

Year 6 Camp

Next week will be a very exciting one for our Year 6’s as they head off to

Kalgoorlie with Mr Keshwar for their camp. We wish them all the best.

Busy Bee

We will be having our Busy Bee on Saturday, 2nd September. Many hands make

light work, so we are looking for families who would like to volunteer for a few

hours or the whole day. We will have a job list in the office for you to put your

name down. Just bring your gardening gloves, a bucket, shovel and any

equipment you might need. We will provide a yummy sausage sizzle.

Uniform Shop Hours Every Wednesday

8:15am – 9:00am

Term 3 Dates for

2017 Tuesday 18th July

until

Friday 22nd September

IMPORTANT REMINDERS

Uniform

Uniform is an imperative aspect of

Pioneer Village School and we pride our

school on our presentation and values.

We will be working with parents and

students to ensure our uniforms are presented correctly, neatly and with

pride. Please refer to the website or

Parent Handbook for guidelines. Please

help us to present students well.

Absence From School

The school does not normally allow

leave for holidays during regular school time. Under exceptional circumstances,

leave may be obtained by applying in

writing to the Principal. No reduction of

fees will be applied due to absence

from the school as fixed costs in running the school will not be reduced

as a result of temporary absence by

individual students.

Camp Australia

September 13th is a pupil free day. Camp Australia will be providing care on this

day as long as the minimum number of 18 students is reached. Thank you to

those who have registered interest already. Mrs Shaw is taking names at the front

office. Last day to register is Thursday, 31st August.

A reminder to parents to ensure they are using the correct booking system when

booking children into before and after school care. Care is a private arrangement

between families and Camp Australia, therefore the school office cannot accept

requests to book your child into care. This must be completed by parents with

Camp Australia.

Kelmscott Show Idol

It’s that time of year again. If you would like to enter yourself into Kelmscott Idol

then collect an entry form and flier from Mrs Shaw at the front office. Applications

for auditions are due Friday, 1st September.

Chess Competition

Congratulations to Paxton, Lloyd and Peem who entered a chess competition tournament as a team called "The Chess Warrior" for division under 10. They made such a great team but unfortunately didn’t place this time. In the tournament, judges also looked at an individual result (who won the most game) so Paxton won the first place for the Resolute Mining Award and Peem won 3rd place.

Class Photos

FotoMakers is coming out on September 7th and 11th to take the K3 and K4 group

photos. Due to a high demand for Traditional Style Class Group photos we

have also asked Fotomakers to take this style photograph for all classes on the

Monday. Parents will have the chance to purchase these photos if they so desire.

Our K4 students will be having individual photos and traditional style class photos

on this day.

Warm regards,

Mrs Louise K Lont

Learning is Alive in Pre-Primary with Mrs Pashen

Who would have thought Math could be so much fun! In Term 3 the students in Pre-Primary

have explored Math through participating in a Lego Incursion. They used the Lego blocks to

explore counting, addition and subtraction strategies and used critical thinking skills to follow

a given procedure to design butterflies. The students were fully engaged in their learning and

delighted with their butterfly creations.

St. John’s Incursion: preparing our children for the future

Last week, on the 24th of August, PVS welcomed some very special guests. We were visited by a St.

John’s Ambulance team of qualified paramedics and educators who taught our children how to recognise

and act during an emergency.

Every class took part in an age appropriate First Aid training, with Claire, an experienced former paramedic

that now specialises in teaching children. It was wonderful to see children to engaged and feeling so

capable of helping other people. They discussed concepts such as emergency, unconscious and small

accidents.

Furthermore, we were lucky enough to get a real ambulance and paramedics to park inside our school

and show children around, explaining what they do everyday and how they can help people. It was an

enriching experience for our children to get such a close look at it.

For Year 1 particularly, who have been discussing this topic over the past few weeks, it was an incredible

opportunity to share and extend their knowledge. They were so excited and I finished the day a proud,

happy teacher!

Coding Incursion – By Lara Carrasquinho

On the 22nd of August, we had a visit from Jan who was showing PVS students how to code using Bee-

bots and Pro-bots. Working in pairs we first learned how to program robots, next we drew ramdomly with

Pro-bots by inputting codes into the robot. Pro-bots are the more advanced version of Bee-bots. It was so

much fun and we learned more about robots and coding too! The Pro-bots could draw pictures with a

code you gave them (if you have a pen). All students had fun coding with these robots!

Great Fun For Your Kids

Kids are at the heart of everything that we do at Camp Australia. That’s why making your kids smile is

our number one priority. Every day we aim to deliver a high quality program that interests and engages

your children, while getting to know each child as an individual.

Our programs allow time for kids to be kids. We have lots of fun playing sports and games and spending

time with friends. We also enjoy learning new things by engaging in educational activities, as well as

having time for homework and time to relax. We also provide healthy meals and snacks for your child –

yum!

Meet The Team

We’re here to make sure that your child has the best OSHC experience possible. If you have any

questions about the program, feel free to drop by, meet the team and see all the fun that we get up to

every day.
