cannotcalltheschool,anoteshouldbesentwiththestudentwhenhe/shereturnstoschoolexplainingthereasonfortheabsence.Astudentmustpresentanote(orphonecallfromparent)withintwodaysofreturningtoschool.Ifnotdocumentedintwodays,thestudentshallbeconsideredtruantandtheappropriatedisciplinaryactionwillbeenforcedaccordingtothedistrict’sbehavioralguidelines(JIC).Studentsmaynotleaveschoolgroundsduringclosedcampustimesunlessgivenpermissionbyaparent.Studentsintendingtoleaveschoolduringclosedcampustimesmustsecureparentalpermissionpriortoleaving.Forpre-arrangedabsence(familytrip,doctorordentistappointment,etc.),studentsmustbringanotefromparent(s)inadvancewhichmustbeapprovedbytheschoolPrincipal.Absencesbeyond8persemestermayrequireahearingtojustifycreditforthecourse.Note:ParentsshouldattempttomakeallappointmentsonMondays.Studentsmustreporttotheofficeandobtainanadmitslipbeforereturningtoclassfollowinganabsence.Theonlyexceptioniswhentheabsenceisduetoaschool-sponsoredactivity.Teacherswillnotadmitstudentstoclasswithoutanadmitslip.ACADEMICEXPECTATIONSANDPROCEDURESCalhanHighvaluestheessentialskillsfoundinadiverseandrigoroushighschooleducation.Toinsurethehighestqualityeducationforall,studentswillcompileaportfoliodemonstratinghis/heraccomplishments,skills,anddedicationinwhichtheCalhanCommunitybelieves.Thisportfolio(ICAP–IndividualizedCareerAcademicPlan)beginsduringastudent’sfreshmanyearinacoursecalled“FreshmanSeminar”andcontinuesuntilthestudentgraduates.Student’sacademicproficiencywillbeassessedusingstateanddistrictassessmentsandplacedincoursesappropriatetotheirabilitylevel.Inaddition,studentswillbeplacedinaLiteracycoursebasedontheiracademicneedstofurthertheirabilitytodecode,comprehendandsynthesizeinformation.Studentsinneedofreadinginterventionwillreceivedirectinstruction,targetedtoimprovetheirabilitytohandletextinallcontentareasbasedontheappropriatetierlevel.Tier1-thestudentmarginallybelowgradelevelinonecomponentofliteracy.Tier2-thestudentisbelowgradelevel.Tier3-thestudentissignificantlybelowgradelevel.ThesetierlevelsreflecttheColoradoDepartmentofEducation’sResponsetoInterventionmodel,alsoknownasMTSS.Tomaximizethelearningforallstudentsthefollowingareconsideredstandardoperatingproceduresforallclassrooms:

1. Cometoclasspreparedwithallmaterials2. Academicengagementfrombelltobell3. Completeassignedwork4. Activelyparticipateinclassroomactivitiesandprojects5. Articulatebasedonyourabilitytodemonstrateproficiencyinessentialskillsidentifiedwithinthespecifiedcontentarea.

ACADEMICANDGRADUATIONREQUIREMENTS(IKF)(IKF-R)(IKE-R)Inpursuitofitsmissiontoensurethatallstudentsreachtheirlearningpotential,theBoardofEducationhasestablishedthefollowinggraduationrequirements.StateandDistrictContentStandardsAllstudentsmustmeetorexceedstateanddistrictcontentstandardspriortobecomingeligibletograduate.Graduationfromhighschoolisculminatingeventthatresultsfromthefoundationsbuiltattheelementaryandmiddlelevels.Graduationisacollaborativeeffortamonglevelsinastudent’spublicschoolcareer.Eachlevelofschoolandeachstaffmemberorparent/guardianwhoinstructsorcounselsastudentsharesresponsibilityfortheultimateabilityofthatstudenttodemonstrateproficiencyintheconteststandardsandtomeettheexpectationsforgraduation.UnitsofCreditNeededCreditsearnedforGraduationmustbeaccomplishedwhileenrolledinhighschool.Acreditisdefinedastheamountofcreditgivenforthesuccessfulcompletionofacoursewhichmeetsfourdaysperweekforaminimumof62minutesdailyforatleast36weeksortheequivalent.Successfulcompletionmeansthatthestudentobtainedapassinggradeforthecourse.PromotionorRetentioninHighSchool

Beginningwiththeclassof2021,CalhanHighSchoolrecognizesstudentsasmembersofaparticularclassonthebasisofacademiccreditsaccrued.Creditthresholdsforrecognitionareasfollows:Studentswithlessthan6.5creditsrecognizedasaFreshmanStudentswith6.5-12.9creditsrecognizedasaSophomoreStudentswith13-20.5creditsrecognizedasaJunior4thYr.Studentswith19.5ormorecreditsrecognizedasaSeniorClassrecognitionwillapplyforallsocialandschoolgovernmentalcircumstances.Transferstudentswillbeacceptedatthelevelappropriatelydesignatedbytheirpreviousschool.Advancementtothenextacademiclevelwillbedeterminedbythenumberofcreditsearnedfromthetimeofenrollment.Forexample:IfatransferstudentisrecognizedasaSophomoreinhisorherpreviousschool,buthasonly5credits,thatstudentmaybeenrolledasaSophomore.ToadvancetoJuniorstatusthatstudentwouldhavetoearnaminimumof6.5creditsforatotalof11.5.Thisadjustmentwillnotamendoradjustthedistrictcreditrequirementforgraduation.DiplomaRequirementsTherewillbethreedifferenttypesofdiplomasofferedthroughCalhanHighSchool.Eachwillcarrythesameweightasadiploma,buttheywilleachrecognizethevariouspathwaysstudentsachievesuccessinhighschool.HonorsDiploma

*Requiredcreditbeginningwiththeclassof2018AllstudentsarerequiredtobeenrolledintheLiteracy/AcademicPractice(AP)programunlesstheyhavebeenacceptedintotheAreaVocationalProgram(AVP).RequiredDemonstrationofMasteryforGraduation(BeginningwiththeClassof2018)Inaccordancewithstateguidelines,tobeeligibletograduate,inadditiontoaccruingtherequiredtypeandnumberofcredits,studentsmust,duringtheirfinalyearofschool,successfullydemonstratepostsecondaryreadinessbypassingoneofthestateapprovedassessmentsformasterywiththerequisitescore.Studentsmaychoosefromthefollowingapprovedassessments: ACT CapstoneProject AdvancedPlacementTest Concurrentenrollment MAP Industrycertificate ASVAB SkillsUSAHonorsPhysicalEducationAstudentmayearnhis/herPhysicalEducationcreditforgraduationeitherbytakingappropriatecourses,orbyearning¼creditperyearofhighschoolathleticparticipation.Toearncreditthroughathleticparticipationthestudentmustbeginandendafullseasonatanycompetitivelevel.Thestudentmustparticipateinpractices,andcompeteatthelevelappropriatefortheirability.CreditfromOtherInstitutionsandHome-basedProgramsAllstudentsenteringfromoutsidetheDistrictmustmeetthedistrictgraduationrequirements.ThePrincipalshalldeterminewhethercredittowardgraduationrequirementsshallbegrantedforcoursestakenoutsidetheDistrict.Students,whoarecurrentlyenrolledintheDistrictandwishtoobtaincreditfromoutsideinstitutions,orthroughon-lineprograms,musthavepriorapprovalfromthePrincipal.TheDistrictshallacceptthetranscriptsfromahome-basededucationalprogram.Inordertodeterminewhetherthecoursesandgradesearnedareconsistentwithdistrictrequirementsanddistrictacademicstandards,theDistrictshallrequiresubmissionofthestudent’sworkorotherproofofacademicperformanceforeachcourseforwhichcredittowardgraduationissought.Inaddition,theDistrictmayadministertestingtothestudenttoverifytheaccuracyofthestudent’stranscripts.TheDistrictmayrejectanytranscriptthatcannotbeverifiedthroughsuchtesting.ClassRankingsandGradePointAveragesGraduatingseniorsshallberankedwithinthegraduatingclassuponthebasisofgrade-pointaveragesforthefour-yearprogram,excludingthelastsemesterofthesenioryear.Gradesforregularclasseswillbegiventhefollowingvalues: A=4,B=3,C=2andD=1.Honors/CollegeLevelcourses(notAVP)willhaveweightedgradesasfollows:A=5,B=4,C=3,D=2Whentranscriptsoftransferstudentsshowgradessuchaspassorsatisfactory,suchgradesshallnotbecountedindeterminingclassrankorgradepointaverage.Studentsenteringfromhome-basededucationprogramsmustsubmitstudentworkorotherproofofacademicperformanceforeachcourseforwhichcredittowardclassrankingorgradepointaverageissought.IndependentStudyIndependentstudy,workexperienceandexperienced-basedprogramsapprovedinadvancebythePrincipalmaybetakenforhighschoolcredit.Studentsmustsubmitarequestforapprovalthatincludesasummaryoftheeducationalobjectivestobeachievedandmonitoredbyafacultymember.

CalhanSecondaryLiteracyProgramAllhighschoolstudentswillparticipateintheLiteracyProgram.Courseworkwillbebasedonreadingassessmentdata,followingtheColoradoDepartmentofEducation’sResponsetoInterventiontiersystem.Studentswilltake1courseperyeartomeettheliteracyrequirement.Literacyclassisgradedonapass/failbasis.Studentswhofailwilleitherre-takethecourse,make-upmissingwork,ortakeadditionalcourseworktoreplacethecreditmissed.LiteracyfacultyandthehighschoolPrincipalwilldeterminewhichcreditrecoverypathisappropriatebasedonthestudent’sperformancelevel.Transferstudentswillbeplaced,accordingtoassessments,inanappropriateclass.DuetotheuniquenessoftheLiteracyProgramtransferstudentswillnotberequiredtomakeupliteracycredits,butwillberequiredtoparticipateintheprogramwhileenrolledatCalhanHighSchool.ForeignExchangestudentswillbeassignedappropriatecourseworkbasedonhis/herlevelofproficiency.PostSecondaryReadinessEmphasisisplacedonastudent’sabilitytocommunicate,collaborate,andthinkcreatively.StudentprogresstowardcareerandpostsecondaryreadinessbeginswiththeFreshmanSeminarcourse.

• WhileinFreshmanSeminarstudentswillcreateadigitalportfolio(ICAP)trackinghis/hercareerinterests,levelsofproficiencyintheareasofreading,writing,andmathematics,goals,participationinclubs,activities,andotherschoolandnon-schoolrelatedfunctionsthatdemonstratetheskillsidentifiedasnecessaryforPostSecondaryReadiness.

ADMISSION/WITHDRAWAL(JF/JFC)Theenrollmentofanewstudentbeginsintheregistrar'soffice.AftercompletingvariousDistrictforms,thestudentwillmeetwiththecounselororPrincipaltodesignaschedulethatbestmeetsthestudent'sneeds.Toformallywithdrawfromschool,astudentmustsecureawithdrawalformfromthePrincipal'soffice.Thisformmustbesignedbyallteacherslistedontheformindicatingthat(1)allbooksandequipmenthavebeencheckedin,and(2)alloutstandingbillshavebeenpaid.Aparentorguardianmustsigntheform.Oncecompleted,theformshouldbereturnedtothePrincipal'soffice.ALCOHOLAND/ORCONTROLLEDSUBSTANCES(JICH)CalhanSchoolDistrictRJ1shallpromoteahealthyenvironmentforstudentsbyprovidingeducation,supportanddecisionmakingskillsinregardtoalcohol,drugs,andothercontrolledsubstancesandtheirabuse.Inordertoaccomplishthisgoal,acooperativeeffortmustbemadeamongtheschools,parents,communityanditsagencies.ItshallbeaviolationofBoardofEducationpolicyandconsideredtobebehaviorwhichisdetrimentaltothewelfare,safetyormoralsofotherstudentsorschoolpersonnelforanystudenttopossess,use,sell,distributeorprocure,ortobeundertheinfluenceofalcohol,tobacco,drugsorothercontrolledsubstances.Theunlawfulpossessionoruseofalcoholorcontrolledsubstancesiswrongandharmfultostudents.Forpurposesofthispolicy,controlledsubstancesinclude,butare not limited to narcotic drugs, hallucinogenic or mind-altering drugs or substances, amphetamines, barbiturates, stimulants,depressants,marijuana,anabolicsteroids,anyothercontrolledsubstancesasdefinedinlaw,oranyprescriptionornonprescriptiondrugs,medicine,vitaminorotherchemicalsubstancesnottakeninaccordancewiththeBoardofEducationpolicyandregulationsofadministeringmedicinestostudents.Thispolicyalsoincludessubstancesthatarerepresentedby,ortothestudenttobeanysuchcontrolledsubstance,orwhatthestudentbelievestobeanysuchsubstance.Thispolicyshallapplytoanystudentwhoisonschoolproperty,inattendanceatschool,inaschoolvehicleortakingpartinanyschoolsponsoredorsanctionedactivityorwhoseconductatanytimeorplaceinterfereswiththeoperationsoftheDistrictorthesafetyorwelfareofstudentsoremployees.Studentsviolatingthispolicyshallbesubjecttodisciplinarysanctions,whichmayincludeand/orexpulsionfromschoolandreferralforprosecution.Suspensionandrecommendationforexpulsionshallbemandatoryforsaleordistributionofdrugsorothercontrolledsubstances,inaccordancewithstate law. Situations, inwhicha student seeks counselingor information fromaprofessional staffmember for thepurposeofovercomingsubstanceabuse,shallbehandledonanindividualbasis,dependinguponthenatureandparticularsofthecase.Whenappropriate,parentsshallbeinvolvedandeveryeffortmadetodirectthesubstanceabusertosourcesofhelp.TheBoardofEducation,inrecognitionthatdrugandalcoholabuseisacommunityproblem,shallcooperateactivelywithlawenforcement,socialservicesorotheragenciesandorganizations,parents,andanyotherrecognizedcommunityresourcescommittedtoreducingtheincidentsofillegaluseofdrugsandalcoholbyschoolagedyouths.Wheneverpossible,indealingwithstudentproblemsassociatedwithdrugandalcohol

BUSREGULATIONS(JICC)Schoolbustransportationisaprivilege,notaright.Thisprivilegecanandwillbesuspendedforviolationofrules.Theprivilegeofridingaschoolbusiscontingentuponastudent’sgoodbehaviorandobservanceofestablishedregulationsforstudentconductbothatbusstopsandonboardbuses.Thedriverofaschoolbusshallberesponsibleforthesafetyofthestudentsonhis/herbus,bothduringtherideandwhilestudentsareenteringorleavingthevehicle.Therefore,itisthebusdriver’sdutytonotifythetransportationdirectorifanystudentpersists in violating the established rules of conduct. DRESSCODE(JICA)Theschoolcommunityhashighexpectationsregardingstudentdress.Studentsareresponsibletodresswithintheexpectedguideline.Partoftheschool’sresponsibilityistopreparestudentstoentertheworkplacewithanideaofemployerexpectations.Anyemployerwillexpectareasonabledressstandard.Studentswillnotbeallowedtowearsaggingorbaggypantsthatarewornbelowthewaist.Shouldastudentarriveinthisstyleofclothing,he/shewillbeissuedappropriateclothing,assistedinamendingtheclothingtocomplywiththestandard,oraskedtogohometochange.Studentswillnotbeallowedtowearbillfoldchains,oranychainsthataredrapedfrompants,hangingfromtheneckorwrists,orotherclothing.ChainssuchasthiswillbeconfiscatedandwillbereturnedtothestudentatthePrincipal’sdiscretion.Studentsareencouragedtodressappropriatelyforallschoolactivitiesandtomaintainahighstandardofdress.Thefollowingstandardswillbeineffect: 1. Reasonablecleanlinessofpersonandwearingapparel isexpectedasamatterofhealthandaesthetics. Rippedanddirty

clothes,pantswithholesinthem,andcutoffshortsandpantswithraggedhemssetapoortoneintheschool. 2. Toavoidinjuryanddisease,shoes,sandalsorbootsmustbeworninthebuildings.Thisisastatelaw. 3. Beachwearandathleticwearare inappropriateexcept in thegymandathletic fields. Adecentcoverageof thebody is

expected.Tanktops(toincludet-backtanktops),tubetops,haltertops,netshirts,shirts/blouseswithspaghettistraps,orlowcutblousesorshirtsarenotallowed.Blouses/shirtsordressesmusthavestrapsatleast2½incheswide.Also,muscleshirts,swimsuits,andbaremidriff,etc.areforamorecasualtimeandnotforschool.

4. Dresswillnotbewornthatcausesorislikelytocausedisruptionoftheeducationalprocess.Clothesmakingstatementswithsexualinnuendoes,alludingto,suggesting,oradvocatingviolence,oradvertisingalcohol,drugsand/ortobaccodon’tbelonginschool.Studentswearingsuchattirewillbeaskedtochangeorturntheminsideout.

5. Wearingapparelthatinterfereswithorendangersselforotherswhilehe/sheisparticipatinginclassroomactivitieswillnotbeworn.Thedecisionastothesafetyorunsuitabilityoftheclothingisamatterofthejudgmentofschoolpersonnel.

6. Pupilsmustnotwearhatsordarkglassesinthebuildingwithoutpermissionofanadministrator.Hats,sunglasses,glassesorcontactsthatarenotprescribedtocorrectvisionproblemsarebannedduringschoolhours.Hats,scarves,andheadbandscannotbewornanytimebetween7:30a.m.and4:00p.m.onschooldays.Studentswearinghatsduringtheschooldaywillhavethehatsconfiscatedandwillhavethemreturnedattheteacher’sorPrincipal’sdiscretion.TheprimaryreasonforthisBoardpolicyistoestablishanatmosphereofcourtesyduringthestudent’s“workingday”.

7. Anymannerofgroomingorapparel,includingclothing,jewelry,chains,emblemsandbadges,bandanas,baggyandsaggyclothingthatbyvirtueofcolor,arrangement,trademarkorotherattributeisassociatedwithordenotesmembershipin,oraffiliationwith,anygangwillnotbeallowed.

8. Studentsareallowedtowearshortstoschool.Anappropriatelengthofshortswillbedeterminedbyhavingstudentsfullyextendtheirarms.Thelengthshouldbenolessthanwhereclothingmeetsastudent'sextendedfingertips.Thesameguidelineshallapplywhenstudentswearskirts.

9. Sleepwear,loungingattire,andslippersarenotpermitted. 10. Anystudentimproperlydressedmaybeissuedclothingfromalendinglocker,assistedinamendingtheclothingtocomplywith

VANDALISM:Vandalismwillresultincancellationofprivileges.Vandalismisdefinedasanymaliciousattempttoharmordestroydataofanotheruser,theinternet,anyagenciesorothernetworksthatareconnectedtotheinternetordistricttechnologyequipment.Thisincludes,butisnotlimitedto,theuploadingorcreationofcomputerviruses.

STUDENTAGREEMENT:Iunderstandandwillabidebytheaboveagreement.Ifurtherunderstandthataviolationoftheregulationsaboveisunethicalandmayconstituteacriminaloffense.ShouldIcommitanyviolation,myaccessprivilegesmayberevoked,Imayfaceschooldisciplinaryactions,Imayfaceappropriatelegalactionthatmaybetaken,andImayberequiredtocompensatetheSchoolDistrictforlosses.PARENT/GUARDIANAGREEMENT:IFTHEUSERISLESSTHAN18YEARSOFAGE,APARENT/GUARDIANALSOMUSTSIGNTHEAGREEMENT:Astheparentorguardianofthisstudent,Ihavereadtheacceptableuseagreement.IunderstandthatthisaccessisdesignedforeducationalpurposesandthattheCalhanSchoolDistricthastakenprecautionstoeliminatecontroversialmaterial.Ialsorecognize,however,thatitisimpossiblefortheCalhanSchoolDistricttorestrictaccesstoallcontroversialmaterialsandIwillnotholdtheDistrictresponsibleformaterialsacquiredonthenetwork.Furthermore,Iacceptfullresponsibilityforsupervisionifandwhenmychild’suseisnotinaschoolsetting.SUSPENSION/EXPULSIONPROCEDURES(JKD/JKE&JKD/JKE-E)

1. Thestudentshallbeinformedofthechargesbroughtagainsthim/heruponbeingdetainedbytheadministration.2. Thestudentmaybegivenopportunitytoquestionwitnessesandconfrontaccusers(informalhearing)beforebeingfurther

detained.Ifameetingcannotbearrangedimmediately,thestudentmaybedetaineduntilonecanbearrangedwithinareasonableamountoftimeduringtheschoolday.

3. Thestudentshallbeinformedofsanctionsimposedbytheschoolauthorities,includingdurationofthesanctionandthereasonforthesanction.Groundsforsuspension/expulsionarelistedinthestudenthandbook.Thesanctionsshallbestatednolaterthanwithin24hoursofcollectionofallnecessaryinformation.

4. Theparentshallbeimmediatelycontactedbyphoneandaskedtopickupthestudentfromschool.Iftheparentcannotbe

reached,thestudentshallremaininschoolundersupervisionbutnotbereturnedtotheclassroom.Iftheparentcannotbereachedpriortothenextschoolday,thepersonlistedonthestudent’semergencycardshallbecontacted.

5. Incasesofexpulsion,aletteroutliningthecharges,consequences,andprocedures,shallbesenttotheparentasafollow-uptothetelephonecontact.Thelettershallbesentwithin48hoursofthephonecontact.

6. Suspendedstudentswillbeprovidedanopportunitytomakeupschoolworkduringtheperiodofsuspension,sothestudentisabletoreintegrateintotheeducationalprogramofthedistrictfollowingtheperiodofsuspension.Studentswillreceive100%creditformakeupwork,whichiscompletedsatisfactorily

7. Acopyofappealproceduresshallbemadeavailabletothestudentatthetimesanctionsareannouncedandshallbecommunicatedtotheparentbytelephone.

AccordingtoColoradoRevisedStatutes22-33-106(1)(a-f)and3(e)and22-12-105(3),thefollowingshallbegroundsforsuspensionorexpulsionfromapublicschool:1. Continuedwillfuldisobedienceoropenandpersistentdefianceofproperauthority.2. Willfuldestructionordefacingofschoolproperty.3. Behavioronoroffschoolpropertywhichisdetrimentaltothewelfareorsafetyofotherpupilsorofschoolpersonnel

includingbehaviorwhichcreatesathreatofphysicalharmtothechildorotherchildren.4. Declarationasahabituallydisruptivestudent.

a. Forpurposesofthisparagraph,“habituallydisruptivestudent”meansachildwhohascausedamaterialandsubstantialdisruptionintheclassroom,onschoolgrounds,inaschoolvehicleoratschoolactivitiesorsanctionedeventsthreeormoretimesduringthecourseofaschoolyear.Anystudentwhoisenrolledinapublicschoolmaybesubjecttobeingdeclaredahabituallydisruptivestudent.

b. Thestudentandtheparent,legalguardian,orlegalcustodianshallhavebeennotifiedinwritingofeachsuspensioncountedtowarddeclaringthestudentashabituallydisruptiveandthestudentandparent,legalguardian,orlegalcustodianshallhavebeennotifiedinwritingandbytelephoneorothermeansasthehomeortheplaceofemploymentoftheparentorlegalguardianofthedefinitionof“habituallydisruptivestudent.”

5. Seriousviolationsinaschoolbuildingorinoronschoolpropertyforwhichsuspensionorexpulsionmaybemandatory. a. ThesaleofadrugorcontrolledsubstanceasdefinedinC.R.S.12-22-303.

b. ThecommissionofanactwhichifcommittedbyanadultwouldberobberypursuanttoPart3,Article4,Title18,C.R.SorassaultpursuanttoPart2,Article3,Title18,C.R.S.otherthanthecommissionofanactthatwouldbethirddegreeassaultunderC.R.S.18-3-204ifcommittedbyanadult.

c. Thecarryingbringing,usingorpossessingadangerousweaponwithouttheauthorizationoftheschoolorschooldistrict,exceptthatifastudentdiscoversthatheorshehascarried,broughtorisinpossessionofadangerousweaponandthestudentnotifiesateacher,administratororotherauthorizedpersonintheschooldistrict,andassoonaspossibledeliversthedangerousweapontothatperson,expulsionshallnotbemandatory.

Asusedinparagraphc,“dangerousweapon”means: a)Afirearm,whetherloadedorunloaded.

b)AnypelletorBBgunorotherdevice,whetheroperationalornot,designedtopropelprojectilesbyspringactionorcompressedair.c)Afixedbladeknifewithabladethatmeasureslongerthanthreeinchesinlengthoraspringloadedknifeorapocketknifewithabladelongerthanthreeandone-halfinches.d)Anyobject,deviceinstrument,material,orsubstance,whetheranimateorinanimate,usedorintendedtobeusedtoinflictdeathorseriousbodilyinjury.

6. Repeatedinterferencewithaschool’sabilitytoprovideeducationalopportunitiestootherstudents.7.Carrying,using,activelydisplaying,orthreateningwiththeuseofafirearmfacsimilethatcouldreasonablybemistakenfor

anactualfirearminaschoolbuildingorinoronschoolproperty.8. FailuretocomplywiththeprovisionsofPart9,Article4,Title25,C.R.S(immunizationrequirements).Anysuspension,

expulsionordenialofadmissionforsuchfailuretocomplyshallnotberecordedasadisciplinaryactionbutmayberecordedwiththestudent’simmunizationrecordwithanappropriateexplanation.

9. MakingafalseaccusationofcriminalactivityagainstadistrictemployeetolawenforcementortotheDistrict.AccordingtoC.R.S.22-33-106(2),subjecttothedistrict’sresponsibilitiesundertheExceptionalChildren’sEducationActandapplicablefederallaw(seepolicyJK*-2,DisciplineofStudentswithDisabilities),thefollowingshallbegroundsforexpulsionfromordenialofadmissiontoapublicschoolordiversiontoanappropriatealternateprogram:

thewelfareofotherstudents.SUSPENSIONRESTRICTIONSStudentsservingsuspensionareprohibitedfromparticipatinginand/orattendingallschoolfunctionsincludingbutnotlimitedtoclasses,classevents,andextra-curricularactivitiesforthelengthofthesuspension.Out-of-schoolsuspensionsareservedoffofschoolproperty;studentsdonotreportforschoolwhilesuspended.In-schoolsuspensionsareservedatschool;studentsdoreportforschoolandservethesuspensionundersupervision.

SUBSTITUTETEACHERSSubstituteteachersarenecessaryandvaluableinprovidingstudentswithcontinuousandconsistentopportunitiesformovementtowardtheireducationalgoals.Studentsareremindedthatsubstitutesarerequiredtocarryouttheinstructionsoftheregularclassroomteacher.Whenitisnecessaryforasubstitutetobeinchargeofaclassroom,studentcooperationandcourtesyarerequired.Failuretoactappropriatelyandreferraloftheproblemtotheofficecouldresultinimmediatedetention/suspension.TELEPHONETheschoolphonesareintendedforschoolbusiness.TESTING(ILBA)StatemandatedassessmentswillbecompletedinaccordancewithstateguidelinesandCDEmandates.Districtassessmentswillbeincorporatedinaccordancewiththeneedsoftheschool.TEXTBOOKS(JQ)Textbooksareloanedtostudentsfortheiruseduringtheschoolyear.Studentsshouldmakesurethattheirnameiswrittenonthebooklabelincasethebookismisplaced.Itisthestudent'sresponsibilitytoseethatbooksarecaredforproperly.Fineswillbeassessedattheendoftheschoolyearforanydamagetobooksthatisnotduetoordinaryuse.NewbookswillnotbeissuedbytheDistrictuntilfinesarepaid.TRIPS(IJOA-R)Transportationwillbeprovidedbytheschoolforallactivitytrips,athleticevents,fieldtrips,etc.Studentsridingtoanactivityonschoolsuppliedtransportationmustreturnbythesamemeansoftransportationunlessotherarrangementshavebeenmadeinadvancebytheparentswiththesponsor.Studentsontheineligibilitylistswillbedeniedtheprivilegeofgoingonaschooltripunlessthetripisaclassroomtripforinstructionalpurpose.VALEDICTORIAN/SALUTATORIAN(JMA)EligibilityforvaledictoryandsalutatoryhonorsisrestrictedtothosestudentswhohavebeenenrolledasfulltimestudentsatCalhanHighSchoolfortheirfinaltwoyearsofinstruction.ThevaledictorianshallbetheHonorsDiplomastudentwith1)thehighestgradepointaverage,2)acurrentandcontinuingpositivedisciplinaryrecordwithnoreferralsduringtheirfinalyearofinstructionand3)ahistoryofcontinuingandsignificantpresenceinandcontributiontotheCalhanHighSchoolstudentcommunity.TheSalutatorianshallbetheHonorsDiplomastudentwith1)thesecondhighestgradepointaverage,2)acurrentandcontinuingpositivedisciplinaryrecordwithnoreferralsduringthe12thgradeyearand3)ahistoryofcontinuingandsignificantpresenceinandcontributiontotheCalhanHighSchoolstudentcommunity.Thedeterminationwillbebaseduponclassrankascalculatedattheconclusionofthefirstsemesterofthe12thgradeyear. However, theschool reserves the right to revokevaledictoryandsalutatoryhonors if theconditionsofeligibilityarecompromisedaftertheinitialdesignation.VEHICLERULESFORSTUDENTS(JLIE)Studentsmustadheretothefollowingrules:

1. Exhibitiondrivingisprohibited.2. Vehiclesmaynotbemovedatanytimeduringtheschooldaywithoutpermissionfromtheadministration,exceptduringthe

unsafedrivingmadetolawenforcement. 10. Motorvehiclesparkedonschoolpropertymaybesearchedbyschoolemployeeswhenthereisreasonablesuspicionthatillegal

itemsarepresent.VIDEORECORDERS(EEAEF,EEAEF-R)TheDistricthasinstalledvideorecordingequipmentonschoolbusestomonitorschooltransportationandwillbevideotapingonbusroutesatrandomduringtheschoolyear.Videorecordershavebeeninstalledintheschoolbuildingandwillbeusedforthesamepurposesasbusrecorders.TapeswillbereviewedasneededbythePrincipal,andevidenceofstudentmisconductwillbedocumented.StudentsfoundtobeinviolationoftheDistrict’sbusconductruleswillbenotifiedanddisciplinaryactionwillbeinitiatedundertheBoard-adoptedCodeofConductandDiscipline.VISITORS(KI)Nostudentvisitationsareallowedunlesspre-approvedbythePrincipal.Nostudentday-longshadowingisallowed.Avisitorpassshouldbekeptintheguest’spossessionatalltimes.PassesareavailablefromthePrincipal’ssecretary.WEAPONS(JICI)Carrying,bringing,usingorpossessingadangerousweaponinanyschoolbuilding,onschoolgrounds,inanyschoolvehicleoratanyschool-sponsoredactivitywithouttheauthorizationoftheschoolortheSchoolDistrictisprohibited.Inaccordancewithfederallaw,expulsionshallbefornolessthanonefullcalendaryearforastudentwhoisdeterminedtohavebroughtafirearmtoschoolinviolationofthispolicy.Ifastudentdiscoversthatheorshehascarried,broughtorisinpossessionofadangerousweaponandthestudentnotifiesateacher,administratororotherauthorizedpersonintheSchoolDistrict,andassoonaspossibledeliversthedangerousweapontothatperson,expulsionshallnotbemandatoryandsuchactionshallbeconsideredwhendeterminingappropriatedisciplinaryaction,ifany.
