A Few Facts-The largest mountain range in California is the Sierra Nevada..-The highest mountain in California is Mount Whitney which is 14,495 feet high.-Sierra Nevada means “Snowy Mountain Range” in Spanish.-John Muir, a writer and naturalist, explored and wrote about the Yosemite Valley over 100 years ago.

• This region has most of the large cities including San Francisco, San Diego, and Los Angeles
• This region has sunny weather and world famous beaches.
• The Channel Islands and Farallon Islands are part of the coastal region.
• Indian groups that lived in the coastal region are the Yuroks, the Hoopas, and the Chumash.
