The Gers CCI wishes to join a consortium to develop a project for the development of new transnational tourism products/ offers on topics such as nature, well-being, green/ ecologic/ rural tourism as means to relax in a quite place in the nature. The idea is that tourists come in Gers to spend their time calmly with local people, with whom they will share a “life experience” somehow. An example of a global sustainable tourism offer could be: A cottage in the countryside (far away from villages) has an ecologic label and makes energy economies. There are horses and tourists can ride them. Tourists can participate in activities organized by the hosts and can also discover good practices in ecology: to recycle water, to use environment-friendly products, composting toilets, etc.

Description :

Stretching over an area of 211km2 Terni is a city in southern Umbria (Central Italy). Umbria is the Region of Saint Francis of Assisi and thus of Europe’s important long distance Pilgrimage routes linking Tuscany to Rome, passing through Assisi, Marmore Fall and Lake of Piediluco.

An EDEN (EU Destination of Excellence) runner up on acquatic tourism in 2010, Terni has a rich natural heritage concentrated in the Valnerina's area, Marmore's waterfall and Piediluco Lake. The City of Terni has long invested in favouring a good environment for certain sports often considered de niche but now growing in importance.

Terni is very well known for attracting sport contests and amateur/extreme and de niche sport or leisure activities focused on cycling (specifically downhill, mountain bike and other related activities), outdoor sports , eco-tourism, nature tourism, walking, running, orienteering and bird watching. Among them are: rafting along the Marmore fall, the highest men made falls in Europe, and along all the waterway system; general aviation and delta-plane, archery, fencing etc. In particular this year Terni has been the second city in Italy in terms of hosting EU and interracially wide championships in de niche disciplines (Veteran Fencing Tournament, Archery world championship, International D'Aloja Rowing Contest etc.). In the lake of Piediluco we have the headquarter of the Italian Rowing Federation training Olympic teams.

The City of Terni has a network of structures and itineraries that is ready to be implemented into a "transnational thematic tourism product in the form of a transnational route/itinerary/trail/tourism offer" as asked by the call. We can also contribute to upgrade the quality level of the proposal by an enlargement of the promotion and communication activities and with a contribution on the good practice's aspect for the connection between small and micro enterprises and local authorities.

We can offer our partnership to develop some project proposal directed to the concept of "Active holidays".
