CALL ON THENAME OF THE LORD!

25 Names of JesusIf you have a need, there is a name. Call on the name of the Lord! Jesus, or Yeshua in Hebrew, fulfilled hundreds of Old Testament prophecies through His birth, life, death, and resurrection.

He was called by many names, all are revelatory as to who He is, His heart towards us, and the character of the God we serve.

The Old Testament prophecies of the Savior creates a foundation on which we stand. They tell us who to look for in the New Testament. The new is established upon and revealed in the old. One does not stand without the other. It was through prophetic words that wise men eagerly awaited the Messiah’s first coming and even now a wise humanity awaits His return.

Review these names during your quiet time or with your family this season to gain a better understanding and a deeper knowledge of who the Lord is.

He truly is the beginning and the end—the Alpha and the Omega.

He always was, always is, and always will be.

2

1. Immanuel“God with Us”

God is with you. No matter what the day brings, He is there. No matter the challenges of the season, He is with you and He is for you. God is with you today, and He will be with you tomorrow.

The name Immanuel first appeared in Isaiah and again in Matthew when the prophecy of His coming was fulfilled.

• “Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.”—Isaiah 7:14 (emphasis added)

• “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, nor shall the flame scorch you. For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior...”—Isaiah 43:2-3 (empha-sis added)

• “So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying: ‘Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,’ which is trans-lated, ‘God with us.’”—Matthew 1:22-23 (emphasis added)

Immanuel is God with us, the Holy One of Israel, and our Savior. No matter the depth of the waters or the force of the mighty rushing rivers—God is with you. And you are with Him.

2. Messiah“The Anointed One”

Yeshua, the Messiah, was anointed to save. In biblical times, oil was used for sacred purposes to set apart and consecrate. The Temple tools were anointed for worship and Temple services, just as the priests were anointed to serve.

3

• “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, because the Lord has anointed Me to preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the bro-kenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound…”—Isaiah 61:1 (emphasis added)

• “The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the Son of David, the Son of Abraham…”—Matthew 1:1 (emphasis added)

Matthew makes a point to establish the Messiah’s family lineage and her-itage: Son of David and Son of Abraham. It was important to record “The Anointed One’s” physical and spiritual roots—this was a record of fulfilled prophecy.

When the record is there, the countless generations who read His Words would see God’s faithfulness to His Word and His people.

As we see time and again in scripture, we need the foundation of the old to establish the new.

Like Yeshua, we have been called, set apart, and anointed for Kingdom ser-vice. Today I would challenge you to anoint yourself and your family for your Kingdom purposes during this season.

When things get busy and hectic and you feel overwhelmed, remember that above all you have been saved by the Anointed One. You have been anointed to fulfill the call that He has on your life. You are set apart.

3. Yeshua’“To Deliver, to Rescue”

The Deliverer was promised as early as Genesis, Chapter 3:

• “And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel.”—Genesis 3:15 (emphasis added)

4

“Her Seed” is in reference to Jesus. This is what theologians refer to as “pro-toevangelium”—the first promise of redemption that was not of the seed of man. Rather, it was the Son of God born of a virgin.

A reference to this promise of redemption was noted in the original version of Hark the Herald Angels Sing. However, these verses are often omitted in modern renditions...

Come, Desire of Nations, come, Fix in us Thy humble home.Rise the woman’s conquering Seed, Bruise in us the serpent’s head.

Now display thy saving power,Ruin’d nature now restore; Now in mystic union joinThine to ours, and ours to thine.

Adam’s likeness now efface, Stamp Thine image in its place,Second Adam from above, Reinstate us in Thy love,Hark, the herald angels sing, Glory to the newborn King.*

Yeshua is not only the Deliverer of nations—He is your Deliverer.

• “The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles.”—Psalm 34:17 (emphasis added)

Jesus came because we needed to be rescued. He reached into the mire and muck and pulled us out of bad circumstances. So, no matter what you are looking at or how lonely you may feel, Yeshua is your Deliverer and His hand is not too short to rescue.

He came for those in need of a Savior. He came for you.

4. Ga’al“Redeemer”

Yeshua came with redemption written on His heart and the unity of the One New Man (Ephesians 2:14) etched into His prophesied purpose.

5

In John 4, we read that the Redeemer came to “save the world” not just the Jewish people. Yeshua came as the world’s Redeemer—which means He came to redeem you and your family. It also means that all of us have situ-ations and circumstances that we need to be redeemed from—and that is okay.

• “Then they said to the [Samaritan] woman, ‘Now we believe, not because of what you said, for we ourselves have heard Him and we know that this is indeed the Christ, the Savior of the world.’”—John 4:42 (emphasis added)

The Samaritans are an example of the One New Man. After the Assyrian captivity of northern Israel in 721 B.C., part of the lingering nation of Israel intermarried with the Assyrians and became what history calls, the Samari-tans.

In Isaiah 49, we see the Redeemer’s coming and purpose prophesied, but not just to the nation of Israel. It was for “you peoples far away.” This means the power of His redemption was prophesied and always intended for all of us—intended for you:

• “Coastlands, listen to me; listen, you peoples far away…So now Adonai says —he formed me in the womb to be his servant, to bring Ya‘akov back to him, to have Isra’el gathered to him, so that I will be honored in the sight of Adonai, my God having become my strength —he has said, ‘It is not enough that you are merely my servant to raise up the tribes of Ya‘akov and restore the offspring of Isra’el. I will also make you a light to the nations, so my salvation can spread to the ends of the earth.”—Isaiah 49:1, 5-6 (CJB) (emphasis added)

In other words, He says, “Listen, you peoples from afar: I always came for you and I was always coming for you. You were my purpose. You were my intention. Anything that did not include you was ‘not enough.’ You were not a second thought you were not ‘Plan B.’ The Father sent Me for you.”

In this season, many battle loneliness and depression. Today we encour-age you to remember that Yeshua came as your “Ga’al.” He came as your

6

Redeemer. He saw you then and He sees you now.

He came to spread salvation over you—to the very ends of your life and every “impossible” circumstance. He came to light the way and cover you in His great love and redemption. He came to restore you because the Father sought your heart. You are redeemed.

5. Adonai“Lord, Master”

Our knees bow and our tongues confess that Yeshua not only came as Sav-ior but as Lord and Master. It is to Him that we live surrendered lives, which means that we let go of control. We yield and trust.

• “‘Look to me, and be saved, all the ends of the earth! For I am God; there is no other. In the name of myself I have sworn, from my mouth has rightly gone out, a word that will not return— that to me every knee will bow and every tongue will swear about me that only in Adonai are justice and strength.’”—Isaiah 45:22-24 (CJB) (emphasis added)

Romans 10:10 reminds us that our trust is reflected not only in our pub-lic confession but also hidden in our hearts. Our hearts and the words of our mouths acknowledge where our trust is truly placed. Do we trust in (or worry about) our might and abilities? Or is He truly Lord and Master of our lives?

• “...if you acknowledge publicly with your mouth that Yeshua is Lord and trust in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be delivered. For with the heart one goes on trusting and thus continues toward righteousness, while with the mouth one keeps on making pub-lic acknowledgment and thus continues toward deliverance. For the passage quoted says that everyone who rests his trust on him will not be humiliated. That means that there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—Adonai is the same for everyone, rich toward everyone who calls on him, since everyone who calls on the name of Adonai will be delivered.”—Romans 10:9-13 (CJB)

7

6. Cornerstone“Foundation-stone”

The One New Man teaching is the foundational stone of truth for which to build your life. Because we are ‘grafted in,’ we are no longer strangers or for-eigners without a home. We are legal members of the house of our Father. Even if you feel alone, you are not, because Yeshua brings you in. You are seen, known, and you belong.

• “The very rock that the builders reject has become the cornerstone!”—Psalm 118:22 (CJB) (emphasis added)

Cornerstone is the name of identity. It is what you are built upon and the foundation of your faith. Yeshua came to dwell with and in us. He came to create a secure foundation for our faith. No matter how rocky a circum-stance may feel, He is our foundation and our security rests in Him.

In Him, you are being built as a dwelling place—a place where God’s Spirit rests.

• “Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone, in whom the whole building, being fitted together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord, in whom you also are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit.”—Ephesians 2:19-22 (emphasis added)

7. Intercessor“Advocate”

The definition of intercession is “the act of intervening on behalf of another.” Yeshua intervened on our behalf and brought us salvation. He intervened for you. He brought salvation to you. He advocated for you.

Yeshua is your Greatest Intercessor—your Greatest Advocate.

8

• “…Because He poured out His soul unto death, and He was numbered with the transgressors, and He bore the sin of many, and made interces-sion for the transgressors.”—Isaiah 53:12 (emphasis added)

• “My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. And He Himself is the propitiation [atonement] for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world.”—1 John 2:1-2 (emphasis added)

The Passion Translation says it this way…• “…we continually have a forgiving Redeemer who is face-to-face

with the Father: Jesus Christ, the Righteous One.”—1 John 2:1 (TPT) (emphasis added)

What greater love could ever be expressed to you and for you? Yeshua was born to save you. He died to save you. He is continually redeeming you. This is love. Love for the whole world and love for you—-face-to-face.

8. Deliverer“One who rescues from harm or danger”

Adonai delivered David from the power of ALL his enemies.

Adonai was David’s Rock, Fortress, Deliverer, Shelter, Shield, Saving Power, Stronghold, Refuge, and Savior.

• “Then David spoke to the Lord the words of this song, on the day when the Lord had delivered him from the hand of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul. And he said: ‘The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; the God of my strength, in whom I will trust; my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold and my refuge; my Savior, You save me from violence.’”—2 Samuel 22:1-3 (emphasis added)

Just like David, we need a Deliverer, Shelter, and Savior. This is the reason Yeshua came, just as it was prophesied and fulfilled…

9

• “And so all Israel will be saved, as it is written: ‘The Deliverer will come out of Zion, and He will turn away ungodliness from Jacob; for this is My covenant with them, when I take away their sins.’”—Romans 11:26-27

Yeshua came out of Zion. He came for Zion. He also came for you—to deliver, to rescue, and to save.

No matter the circumstances you are in, Adonai has the power to deliver you from ALL your enemies. No giant is too large, and no storm is unsurmount-able for your God. Today, join David in his confession of praise from 2 Sam-uel 22:2-3...

“Adonai, is my Rock, my fortress and deliverer, the God who is my Rock, in whom I find shelter, my shield, the power that saves me, my stronghold and my refuge. My savior, you have saved me...” (CJB)

He has saved you.

9. The Alpha and Omega“The Beginning and the End”

Our God is the first and the last. There is no other.

• “Thus says the Lord, the King of Israel, and his Redeemer, the Lord of hosts: ‘I am the First and I am the Last; besides Me there is no God.’”—Isaiah 44:6 (emphasis added)

Our God is the beginning and the end. Our God is, was, and is to come. It is, for this reason, we can trust Him in the middle—in the middle of the plan, in the middle of the pain, and in the middle where we don’t understand.

We can trust because He is the Alpha and Omega and all things—from the beginning to the end—-are in His hand.

• “Behold, He is coming with clouds, and every eye will see Him, even they

10

who pierced Him. And all the tribes of the earth will mourn because of Him. Even so, Amen.

• “‘I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End,’ says the Lord, ‘who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.’”—Revela-tion 1:7-8 (emphasis added)

He was there when Mary labored and gave birth to the Son of God. He was there when Yeshua hung on the cross and the disciples despaired.

He will be there when the King of kings returns.

And He is there with you now.

10. Faithful and True“Truthful, Accurate, Exact, Loyal, and Honest”

We all seek someone who is faithful and true. We desire to be in relation-ships with those who are faithful and true: our spouses and friends. Yeshua sought faithful and true disciples because He was the Faithful and True One who is returning for a faithful and true bride…

• “…I saw heaven opened, and there before me was a white horse. Sitting on it was the one called Faithful and True, and it is in righteousness that he passes judgment and goes to battle.”—Revelation 19:11 (CJB) (emphasis added)

The merciful, gracious, longsuffering, and abounding in goodness and truth God that was written of in Exodus is the same God that we serve today.

• “Now the Lord descended in the cloud and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of the Lord. And the Lord passed before him and proclaimed, ‘The Lord, the Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuf-fering, and abounding in goodness and truth…’”—Exodus 34:5-6 (emphasis added)

He desires to abound goodness and reveal His truth to you. It is to you that

11

He is faithful. It is for you that He has gone to battle. We serve the Faithful and True one who has given everything to redeem us.

He is faithful to you.He is true to you. You can trust Him.

11. The Lamb of God“Perfect, Sinless, Sacrifice from God”

Jesus was the perfect, sinless, and pure Lamb that was sacrificed for sin.

• “The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, ‘Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!’—John 1:29 (emphasis added)

Isaiah 53 is a clear prophetic description of Yeshua the Messiah, the Suffer-ing Servant. Some Jewish scholars compare this passage to the suffering of the nation regarding the birth of Israel. However, we clearly see this passage reflects the suffering of the Messiah for our salvation and healing.

• “Who has believed our report? And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed? For He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant, and as a root out of dry ground.

“He has no form or comeliness; and when we see Him, there is no beauty that we should desire Him. He is despised and rejected by men, a Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief.

“And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him. Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed Him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted.

“But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniq-uities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray;e have turned, every one,

12

to his own way; and the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all. He was oppressed and He was afflicted, yet He opened not His mouth; He was led as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before its shearers is silent, so He opened not His mouth.

“He was taken from prison and from judgment, and who will declare His generation? For He was cut off from the land of the living; for the trans-gressions of My people He was stricken.

“And they made His grave with the wicked—but with the rich at His death, because He had done no violence, nor was any deceit in His mouth.”—Isa-iah 53:1-9 (emphasis added)

The Lamb of God came to heal you, give you peace, restore you, and lift your burden. Do you believe it? The prophet asks us “whose report will you believe?”

Your Savior grew up in humility and without majesty. For this reason, He was hidden, despised, and rejected. The one’s whose face was hidden and who was lowly esteemed, bore your pain and took your suffering. Mankind did not understand, and He was smitten of God.

He was pierced for your transgressions, beaten for your iniquities, and by His stripes you are the healed of the Lord.

We should all praise the Lord for the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world—who takes away your sin, your pain, your sickness—when you call on His Name. He is the Lamb of God. He is the Lamb who came for you and gave His life for your salvation. “Behold, your Lamb!”

12. The Light of the World“God’s Revelation; a symbol of Holiness, Goodness, Knowledge, and Wisdom”

Yeshua came as the Light of the World. He also immediately reminds us that He came to be the light in our personal lives so that darkness cannot con-sume us...

13

• “…‘I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in dark-ness, but have the light of life.’”—John 8:12 (emphasis added)

David reminds us of the power of personal confession and application…

• “The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of who shall I be afraid?”—Psalm 27:1 (empha-sis added)

We access the guiding light when we follow Him. We don’t access the light when we jump out ahead of Him or run to the side of Him, or when we ven-ture out in our own strength.

Jesus lovingly reminds us in John 8:12 that “he who follows Me….shall have the light of life.” If you are going through a dark time, we encourage you to ask yourself, “How did I get here?”

Did you rush ahead? Did you worry and wander? Regardless, when darkness threatens, a repentant heart is the first step to getting behind the Shepherd and walking in step with His light and instruction. When we walk in align-ment with God and His Word, we reflect Him and we too become lights in the darkness...

• “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid-den.”—Matthew 5:14 (emphasis added)

13. Lion of Judah“Reflecting the Powerful, Majestic, and Kingly nature; the lineage of the Tribe of Judah”

Joseph had two sons: Manasseh (the first-born) and Ephraim (the sec-ond-born). Subsequently, Ephraim is a prophetic symbol of the ‘second-born’ or the Gentile nations. The prophet Hosea therefore prophecies that God will be a lion for both Jew and Gentile.

• “For I will be like a lion to Ephraim, and like a young lion to the house of Judah...”—Hosea 5:14 (emphasis added)

14

A lion symbolizes strength, courage, majesty, and kingship. The voice of God is likened to the roar of a lion (see Hosea 11:10). When Yeshua came, He not only came as the perfect lamb but also in great strength, majesty, and with great authority. He came as a lion.

• “So I wept much, because no one was found worthy to open and read the scroll, or to look at it. But one of the elders said to me, ‘Do not weep. Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has prevailed to open the scroll and to loose its seven seals.’”—Revelation 5:4-5 (emphasis added)

In Hebrew, the name Judah means ‘praise.’ Therefore, we can read Revela-tion 4:5 like this: “…the Lion, the strength, the majesty, the King of the Tribe of Praise… has prevailed.”

Yeshua is the Lion of the house and people of praise. Over them, His Words roar like a lion.

Yeshua came as a lamb to redeem, and a lion to save—both Jew and Gentile. When you need God to roar over your circumstances—praise Him, lift up your voice, declare the victory.

“Do not weep. Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah…has prevailed [conquered, proven more powerful that opposing forces].”

In Him, you are more than a conqueror (see Romans 8:37).

14. Redeemer“The One who restores the rights of another—avenging wrongs”

Yeshua came to redeem you. Yeshua came because He is faithful—faithful to Israel and faithful to you.

The Holy One chose His one and only Son. And He chose you too.

The Servant came and served you. Jesus came to save His people from their

15

sins. Jesus came to save you.

• “Thus says the Lord, the Redeemer of Israel, their Holy One, to Him whom man despises, to Him whom the nation abhors, to the Servant of rulers: ‘Kings shall see and arise, princes also shall worship, because of the Lord who is faithful, the Holy One of Israel; and He has chosen You.’”—Isaiah 49:7 (emphasis added)

• “And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name JESUS, for He will save His people from their sins.”—Matthew 1:21 (emphasis added)

• “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”—John 3:16 (emphasis added)

15. Root of David“Family—a member of the family, and descendant, specifically from King David”

Your roots are important because they are the spiritual DNA that leads to covenant and the fulfillment of prophecy. Jesus would not have been the Messiah if He did not come from the Root of David.

His lineage and heritage established Him even though He was unrecognized by many.

You are grafted into covenant greatness. This is the key to an abundant life; this is the key to abiding, asking, and receiving.

Your spiritual heritage is the key to accessing the supernatural aspect of your Father. Where Yeshua came from spoke to where He was going.

• “There shall come forth a Rod from the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots. The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord.”—Isaiah 11:1-2 (emphasis added)

16

Yeshua is the “Root and the Offspring of David.” He is a branch from the Root and we are a branch in His vine. These are your roots. This is your foun-dation.

• “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.”—John 15:5-7 (emphasis added)

• “I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things in the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, the Bright and Morning Star.’”—Revelation 22:16 (emphasis added)

16. Savior of the World“One who comes to save the world from destruction and brings Salvation”

He alone is the Savior of the World. He is the very essence of kindness and love from the Father’s heart to yours.

• “Yet I am the Lord your God ever since the land of Egypt, and you shall know no God but Me; for there is no savior besides Me.”—Hosea 13:4 (emphasis added)

Yeshua is mercy poured out. He offers us spiritual and physical regeneration and renewing through His Holy Spirit. By grace you are an heir, you are a daughter, a son, and a saved one who has the hope of eternal life through the Savior or the World.

• “But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared, not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regenera-tion and renewing of the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out on us abun-dantly through Jesus Christ our Savior, that having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.”—

17

Titus 3:4-7 (emphasis added)

Just as the Father poured out kindness and love towards us, may we use this season to pause and pour out kindness and love towards others.

The Savior of the World is the Savior of you!

Just as the lyrics to Silent Night proclaim...“Silent night! Holy night! Shepherds quake at the sight. Glories stream from heaven afar, heav’nly hosts sing: ‘Alleluia! Christ the Savior is born!’”

17. Seed of Abraham“A descendant of Abraham who will be blessed and will bring blessings”

Through Abraham’s seed, “all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” Yeshua was called the Seed of Abraham so that we could recognize Him. It is through the Messiah, that we are blessed and have access to covenant promise and inheritance.

• “Now the Lord had said to Abram: ‘Get out of your country, from your family and from your father’s house, to a land that I will show you. I will make you a great nation; I will bless you and make your name great; and you shall be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you; and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.’”—Genesis 12:1-3 (emphasis added)

• “On the same day, the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying: ‘To your descendants I have given this land…’”—Genesis 15:18 (emphasis added)

Abraham’s blessing was linked to the obedience of leaving. He had to leave behind the old in order to access the new blessing that God had for him and for “all the families of the earth.”

The Jewish people are the Seed of Abraham by blood, and we are the Seed of Abraham by faith—thus making One New Man or ‘one new humanity’—not to replace but to come and be a part.

18

• “Now to Abraham and his Seed were the promises made. He does not say, ‘And to seeds,’ as of many, but as of one, ‘And to your Seed,’ who is Christ. And this I say, that the law, which was four hundred and thirty years later, cannot annul the covenant that was confirmed before by God in Christ, that it should make the promise of no effect. For if the inheritance is of the law, it is no longer of promise; but God gave it to Abraham by promise.”—Galatians 3:16-18 (emphasis added)

We are one family, one house, and One New Man—part of the Seed of Abra-ham. As one family, God desires that we take care of one another and do good in this season as always; especially giving priority to the household of faith.

• “Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.”—Galatians 6:10 (emphasis added)

Do good to all.

18. The Son of God—The Son of Man“A title for the Messianic King; Yeshua being fully God and fully man”

Yeshua, the Son of God, came for us, as we are part of the inheritance. How incredible to be part of the assignment and the purpose of the beloved Son of God!

• “I will declare the decree: The Lord has said to Me, ‘You are My Son, today I have begotten You. Ask of Me, and I will give You the nations for Your inheritance, and the ends of the earth for Your possession.’”—Psalm 2:7-8 (emphasis added)

He came to restore our hearts to the Father, the true God through whom we have eternal life. Yeshua came not only to reveal Himself but to ultimately reveal the Father to us—the Son of God made our understanding come alive so that we could be restored through His sacrifice.

19

You may feel alone, rejected, abandoned, overwhelmed, unseen, not heard, lost, anxious, or angry. You may feel like you can’t keep doing the same thing over and over again. Regardless of what you feel, it does not change the fact that the Son of God called you worthy of redemption and has given you the opportunity to experience the One who is true.

• “And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us an under-standing, that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.”—1 John 5:20 (emphasis added)

19. The Shepherd“One who watches over, looks after, or guides His sheep”

Yeshua came with a Shepherd’s heart toward you—a heart to guide, protect, and provide for you.

• “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.”—Psalm 23:1-3 (emphasis added)

Perhaps we could read Psalm 23:1-3 this way: “The Lord is my shepherd. I will not have lack. I will rest. I will be led. I will be restored.”

These promises are for the sheep that stay with the Shepherd and stay under His protective wing and watchful eye.

The Good Shepherd has given us abundant life! He is the Good Shepherd and you are His sheep—sheep He deemed worthy of His very life. Greater love has no man than this…

• “…I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep.”—John 10:10-11 (emphasis added)

• “Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his

20

friends.”—John 15:13 (emphasis added)

20. Word of Life“A combination of two truths—Yeshua Himself is Life and the Word”

All of creation came to be through the spoken Word of God. God’s Word carries great authority and creates something out of nothing.

Everything we see was first spoken out by God. Genesis 1:3 says, “Then God said, ‘Let there be light.’” God said, “Let there be,” and it was.

Yeshua came as the Word of God in the flesh and “dwelt among us.” He dwelt amongst our mess. He dwelt amongst our brokenness. He dwelt amongst our humanity and offered to restore us to the Father.

He poured out grace and truth and made a way for you—a way of salvation.

• “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”—Genesis 1:1 (emphasis added)

• “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men… And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.”—John 1:1-4, 14 (emphasis added)

21. Son of David“A descendant of David’s royal line”

Yeshua, the Son of David, came to extend dominion and perpetuate peace. He came to secure the throne. He came to sustain the Kingdom. He came in great zeal to accomplish the task at hand.

Yeshua came bringing counsel. He came in might and with eternity imprinted

21

on His heart. He came as the Prince of Peace.

• “For a child is born to us, a son is given to us; dominion will rest on his shoulders and he will be given the name Pele-Yo‘etz El Gibbor Avi-‘Ad Sar-Shalom [Wonder of a Counselor, Mighty God, Father of Eternity, Prince of Peace], in order to extend the dominion and perpetuate the peace of the throne and kingdom of David, to secure it and sustain it through justice and righteousness henceforth and forever. The zeal of Adonai-Tzva’ot will accomplish this.”—Isaiah 9:5,6 (CJB) (emphasis added)

Yeshua came bringing great gifts to those who are willing to receive Him. Receive His mercy and His grace in this season by applying His mantle on your life...

• “The key of the house of David I will lay on his shoulder; so he shall open, and no one shall shut; and he shall shut, and no one shall open.”—Isaiah 22:22 (emphasis added)

• “Then the multitudes who went before and those who followed cried out, saying: ‘Hosanna to the Son of David! “Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!” Hosanna in the highest!’”—Matthew 21:9 (emphasis added)

Hosanna, a Greek word, is often translated as ‘please save us!’ And so, the multitudes were in essence shouting: “Please save us, Son of David!’

The men and women in the crowd waving branches, pressing in, and shout-ing knew the prophet’s words, and knew the significance of the name they were hailing: “Son of David! Son of David! Please, save!”

He came to save. He came in mercy. Have you called on His name?

• “And that He raised Him from the dead, no more to return to corruption, He has spoken thus: ‘I will give you the sure mercies of David.’”—Acts 13:34 (emphasis added)

The lyrics of O Come, O Come Emmanuel reflect this truth.

22

“O come, though King of David, come and open wide our heav’nly home; make safe the way that leads on high, and close the path of misery. Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel shall come to thee, O Israel.”

22. Sar Shalom“Prince of Peace”

Unto us, the Prince of Peace was given—unto us and unto broken humanity. The Prince of Shalom (shalom means ‘nothing broken and nothing missing’) came to restore. The Jewish people were awaiting a Messiah that would establish a physical Kingdom.

• “For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the govern-ment will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”—Isaiah 9:6 (emphasis added)

Can you imagine how confused the disciples were when Jesus spoke these words to them:

• “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”—John 14:27 (emphasis added)

“Peace I leave with you…” We can imagine the disciples asked, “Where are you going? Aren’t we just getting started?”

Yeshua was warning them about what was coming: His death and His res-urrection. He was telling them, “In spite of these circumstances, do not fear or be troubled. I am Sar Shalom in the midst of the greatest despair. I am Sar Shalom in the middle when you cannot see the end. No matter what I am, Sar Shalom and I am with you—do not be afraid.”

The Passion Translation says it this way:

• “I leave the gift of peace with you—my peace. Not the kind of fragile

23

peace given by the world, but my perfect peace. Don’t yield to fear or be troubled in your hearts—instead, be courageous!”—John 14:27 (TPT) (emphasis added)

No matter what you are going through, Sar Shalom is with you—do not let your heart be troubled, weighed down, or afraid. Sar Shalom was given to you and for you.

23. King of Glory“The King of great Power, Importance, Greatness, Might, and Honor”

The King of Glory put on flesh and dwelt amongst us. The strong and the mighty came in humility and power. The Lord of Hosts loved, discipled, and empowered.

• “Lift up your heads, O you gates! And be lifted up, you everlasting doors! And the King of glory shall come in. Who is this King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle. Lift up your heads, O you gates! Lift up, you everlasting doors! And the King of glory shall come in. Who is this King of glory? The Lord of hosts, He is the King of glory. Selah”—Psalm 24:7-10 (emphasis added)

Who is this King of Glory who would come to us in our humanity and restore? The prophets foretold Him, yet...

• “… none of the rulers of this age knew; for had they known, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.”—1 Corinthians 2:8 (emphasis added)

The Lord of Glory hung on a tree. The King of Glory wore a crown of thorns.

He was stripped for our healing and pierced to save. From the humble man-ager to the cruelty of the cross, He remained our King of Glory.

24. The Holy One“The One who is set apart and sacred, meaning ‘Kadosh’ in Hebrew”

24

Yeshua came as a man, but He was the Holy One. He came as our Passover Lamb, but He was the Holy One. He came as our Advocate, Intercessor, and Deliverer, but He was the Holy One.

• “‘To whom then will you liken Me, or to whom shall I be equal?’ says the Holy One. Lift up your eyes on high, and see who has created these things, who brings out their host by number; He calls them all by name, by the greatness of His might and the strength of His power; not one is missing.”—Isaiah 40:25-26 (emphasis added)

Jesus was called many names and given many titles, but He is and was the Holy One. And yet the world did not see Him. Instead, the world…

• “…denied the Holy One and the Just, and asked for a murderer to be granted to you, and killed the Prince of life, whom God raised from the dead, of which we are witnesses.”—Acts 3:14-15 (emphasis added)

Oh, Holy One who came to save, forgive, and restore. Holy One, You came for us and now we come to You and we cry...

• “Holy, holy, holy (kadosh, kadosh, kadosh) is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of His glory.”—Isaiah 6:3 (emphasis added)

You came for us, Holy One, and now let us go for You. You are the Holy One, Kadosh Adonai!

• “... ‘Woe to me for, I am undone. Because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts.’... I heard the voice of the Lord, saying: ‘Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?’ Then I said, ‘Here am I! Send me.’”—Isaiah 6:5, 8 (emphasis added)

25. Lord“One who has Power, Authority, and Influence; a Master or Ruler”

When God spoke to Jacob, He made it a point to state, “I am the Lord.” In other words, He was stating, “I have authority, power, and influence.”

25

• “And behold, the Lord stood above it and said: ‘I am the Lord God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac; the land on which you lie I will give to you and your descendants. Also your descendants shall be as the dust of the earth; you shall spread abroad to the west and the east, to the north and the south; and in you and in your seed all the families of the earth shall be blessed. Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land; for I will not leave you until I have done what I have spoken to you.’”—Genesis 28:13-15 (emphasis added)

If you want to understand the Lord, you have to understand the purpose of which He came…

• “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”—John 10:10 (emphasis added)

You were His purpose. The Lord came to wield His power and authority over the power of sin and death. He came to redeem you, save you, and restore you. The Lord came to give you abundant life. This life is only accessed when you surrender to Him as Lord and Savior.

He is your Lord. And He came that you might have an abundant and eternal life.

• “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”—Romans 6:23 (emphasis added)

This year, sing O Come, O Come, Emmanuel with a heart that seeks to understand the name of your Lord and Savior—the Holy One who came to save you, the One who dwells within you…

O come, O come, Emmanuel,And ransom captive Israel,That mourns in lonely exile here,Until the Son of God appear.

26

Rejoice! Rejoice! EmmanuelShall come to thee, O Israel.

O come, O come, Emmanuel,And ransom captive Israel,That mourns in lonely exile here,Until the Son of God appear.Rejoice! Rejoice! EmmanuelShall come to thee, O Israel.

O come, Thou Rod of Jesse, freeThine own from Satan’s tyranny; From depths of hell Thy people save,And give them victory o’er the grave.

Rejoice! Rejoice! EmmanuelShall come to thee, O Israel.

O come, Thou Dayspring, from on high,And cheer us by Thy drawing nigh;Disperse the gloomy clouds of night,And death’s dark shadows put to flight.

Rejoice! Rejoice! EmmanuelShall come to thee, O Israel.

O come, Thou Key of David, comeAnd open wide our heav’nly home;Make safe the way that leads on high,And close the path to misery.

Rejoice! Rejoice! EmmanuelShall come to thee, O Israel.

O come, Adonai, Lord of might,Who to Thy tribes, on Sinai’s height,In ancient times didst give the lawIn cloud and majesty and awe.

27

Rejoice! Rejoice! EmmanuelShall come to thee, O Israel.
