    Welcome

    It is with great pleasure that we invite you to the inaugural Calling the Tune Film Festival on 21_23 June

    2013.Drawing on the broad cultural heritage of Hayes, the programme features a selection of lms celebratingEMIs contribution to the area. All of the lms will be presented in the Old Vinyl Factory (formerly EMIHayes) and opens with a Gala Screening of Tom Hoopers Oscar- winning The Kings Speech (2010). Thelm focuses on King George VIs preparation for a crucial speech as King, a role forced upon him afterthe abdication of his brother, Edward VIII. The screening will also include archive footage of Edward VIIIsvisit to the factory while Prince of Wales.

    On Saturday afternoon we will be showing the rst-ever recordings of stereo sound on lm, which weremade by Alan Blumlein in the EMI factory and at Hayes Station in the 1930s. Until now they have never-before been shown in public, and this will be a unique opportunity to view this pioneering work. This willbe followed in the evening by Ken Loachs new lm, The Spirit of 45 (2013) and a screening of an extractfrom his EMI Films produced Family Life (1971)

    Sunday starts with a selection of archive footage of Hayes from the 1950s and 60s, followed by ascreening of one of the rst feature lms produced by EMI, The Railway Children (Lionel Jeffries, 1970).
