Breaking a egg…

Is it what it’s cracked up to be ?

Purpose:

The purpose of my project is to test whether or not a person can break an egg by squeezing it in

the palm of their hand using their palm and fingers.

Page 4: Camaron Jacobs Normandy Crossing Elementary 3 rd Grade Science

Hypothesis:

My hypothesis is that the egg will break due to the fact that an egg is so fragile.

Materials:

• An uncooked unpeeled egg

• A camera

• Some palms and some fingers

Results:

The egg did not break. Eggshells are considerably strong considering their weight. The

spherical shape of the eggshell maximizes strength with a minimum of shell material.

Conclusion:

My hypothesis was incorrect. The egg did not break by wrapping a person fingers around the egg and squeezing it in the palm of their hand. The pressure was evenly distributed throughout

the shell.
