Achievements

Outcome 1: Market development: Increased exportsales

- 74% increase in exports of Cambodian silk products by the 14direct project beneficiaries between 2012 and 2014- 46% increase in the sales value of silk products sold to touristsbetween 2012 and 2014- + 300 prospective buyers contacted in 5 markets in Europe,

the US, Japan, Australia, New Zealand- 11 trade fairs/marketing missions and 7 study tours facilitatedby the project- 11 reports and studies on import markets, silk sector valuechain, silk yarn sourcing

Outcome 2: Product development: Improved qualityand product design

- 100% increase in weavers’ monthly average income from silk weaving from 2012 to 2014- 88 new jobs created by the 14 project beneficiary companies since 2012- 168 weavers newly contracted by the 14 project

beneficiary companies since 2012- 127 new silk products designed by 13 companies

Outcome 3: Sector coordination and Strategy: Enhanced capacity of public and private stakeholders/Cambodian silk sector Strategy- Cambodian Silk Sector Strategy updated under the

leadership of the Silk Sector Development and Promotion Commission, launching is planning in March 2016

- Development of approx. 10 project proposal from Plan of Action in Updated Cambodia Silk Strategy with SDC for presenting development partners for future funding

Exit Strategy

1. Ensure ownership by country stakeholders for sustained silk sector development: the updated silk strategy will be launched by the Commission, as a means to mobilize technical and funding support for the sector.2. Build capacities, provide tools and skills for replication and sustainable use by project beneficiaries: skill & tools developed, dissemination workshops in December 2015

3. Explore opportunities for cooperation with other projects and partners for continued support to the sector: ITC Ethical Fashion, ITC global Women and Trade Programme, ITC Trade for Sustainable Development programme, Organise showcase with CWEA in March 2016 to attract more donors for silk sector

Suggestion by weavers and companies

Weavers raised concern about fake products from China labeled “Made in Cambodia” which affected to sale of silk weaving from the communities:- Suggest government have any measure to control on

labeling;- Provide extensive support on information sharing to small

companies in promotion especially oversea trade fair participation under MoC.
