We hope you enjoyed hearing us sing Feed Your Imaginationand will remember our very important message about reading and how it helps to develop our imagination. Parent/Student Friendship Workshop Thursday 16 August 3.30-5.30 Di Wilcox is back to present another great workshop to parents and students – this time on the topic of friendships. All children some time in their life will experience anxiety, loneliness and friendship issues. Di Wilcox uses the concept of a Magic Coat to teach children some skills and strategies to deal with these issues. It is a valuable workshop for parents to be part of so that the language is kept consistent within the home and Di will empower you with the strategies you can use as a parent to best support your child and build confidence and resilience. This workshop is offered free from Hawaiian, and we will have limited numbers (50), so contact the school office to register your interest. Winter Uniforms Many students are coming to school during the winter months wearing long sleeved shirts underneath their school shirts. We ask that students either wear the long sleeved school shirt or a jacket, rather than placing a long sleeved shirt underneath. There are also a large number of students wearing black leggings, pants and jackets – a reminder that our school uniform includes only navy bottoms, not black, and jackets need to be either the Camboon uniform or a plain navy blue jacket. Assembly Change There has been a date change to the Assembly for EC2 and EC3 (Pre-primary). Their assembly will now be held on Friday 21 September, due to swimming lessons. Semester 2 Term 3 Volume 13 1 August 2018

Assembly What an outstanding assembly item we watched from the amazing students in Room 1 and Mrs Winn. I always love to hear about the importance of reading and using your imagination. Well done.

School Board The School Board meeting was held Monday 30 July. The School Board was informed of our current financial position and budgets for the remainder of this year. There was also continued discussion on planning for continuous improvement through classroom upgrades, school based learning programs and after school activities. The School Board is a vital aspect of our school that assists us in making informed decisions that benefit our students and families.

Year 6 camp Our students are very lucky that they get to go on camp. Our wonderful teachers give up their family time and sleep to give our students this opportunity. I know the students will have a great time and come back to share lots of stories with us.

Janice Cuculoska—Principal

Assembly – Room 1 Thank you to family and friends who attended the Room 1 Assembly on July 27, 2018. We hope you enjoyed hearing us sing “Feed Your Imagination” and will remember our very important message about reading and how it helps to develop our imagination. Five Cent Friday To raise money for the Angkor Project and our sister school Amphet Phnom PS in Cambodia, the Social Justice Committee have decided to run 5c Friday starting in Week 4. Every Friday there will be a bucket in the assembly area for you to put any 5c coins (or other coins) you wish to donate. We are hoping that this will become an ongoing fundraiser. Thank You Social Justice Committee PALS Project 2018 PALS is an initiative of the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries which encourages Western Australian schools to develop projects that promote reconciliation in their local community. We were successful in obtaining PALS funding again this year for the purpose of developing our Indigenous garden bed. We will be using some of the funding to reticulate the garden bed using sustainable practices as well as adding to the flora in the garden bed. This is so our students can learn about Indigenous culture through hands-on experiences. All students are invited to enter our PALS project 2018 for the chance to win a place on our gardening team. Students are asked to research local Indigenous flora and its purpose (bush tucker, bush medicine, aesthetic, etc) and choose one species they would like to include in our garden and why. It is up to the students to decide how they would like to present their findings including the following information: The Indigenous name, a picture of the plant, its use and an explanation of why it should be in our garden. All entries are due to Mrs Hardingham in Room 14 by Wednesday 22 August and the winners will be announced at the assembly on 24 August. Scholastic Book Club Issue 4 There is an unclaimed book order without a name. If you haven’t received your issue 4 order in Term 2, please see Mrs Clausen in library on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday . Thank you. VacSwim School Holiday Swimming Lessons 2018/2019 With swimming pools and beaches a big part of the Western Australian lifestyle, ensuring your children can swim competently and safely is essential. You can now enroll your children in VacSwim swimming lessons during the October and December/January school holidays. VacSwim is for all children - from beginners to more advanced swimmers and young people doing their Bronze Medallion. Your children can start as young as five years old, join in the fun of learning to swim at pools and open water venues across the State. Enrol your children in VacSwim now at education.wa.edu.au/swimming

TerraCycle Garden Challenge Please keep sending in your oral care waste for recycling and please go online to https://www.terracycle.com.au/en-AU/contests/colgategardenvoting and vote for Camboon primary School. Competition ends 31 October 2018. Camboon Primary School has now joined the Beauty Products Recycling Program. Please send in any cosmetics packaging, hair care packaging and skin care packaging for recycling. This can be placed in the new yellow bins (not the green bins!) located in ECE3, office and Clusters 1, 2 and 3.

Chaplain’s Corner Curious about the role of the school Chaplain? Join me (Ms. T) in the assembly area on Friday Aug 10 for morning tea immediately after the Book Week parade. Ask questions, tell me about yourself or just say hi and have a cuppa.

P&C NEWS BOOKFAIR The P&C will be hosting its Annual Scholastic Book Fair next week Monday 6 August to Thursday 9 August in the school library. We will be open for sales after school from 3pm until 4pm on each day. Cash, Credit Card and EFTPOS will be accepted. A catalogue outlining some of the books available will be sent home today. The Book Fair is a great opportunity to get in nice and early with Christmas shopping. Encourage your child's love of reading and at the same time support your child’s school. All funds raised from the Book Fair will go towards new library resources. Volunteers are also needed for the Book Fair to assist with sales from 3pm to 4pm. There will be a volunteer sign up sheet outside the canteen on the P&C board. Please put your name down, if you are able to help. QUIZ NIGHT Thank you again to all those who attended, volunteered or contributed to our very first Quiz Night. We raised around $2300 which will go towards the Nature Play area being constructed within the school. STUDENT SCHOOL BANKING Just a reminder that student school banking has now changed to Wednesday mornings in the Parent Room. Saving money is a great tool to teach your children whilst they are young. If you would like to register your child for school banking, please visit Tash in the parent room on a Wednesday between 8.30am and 8.50am. VOLUNTEERS We have a number of activities throughout the school year to help raise money for the school. Without volunteers, these events would not happen, so we are calling for more volunteers! Its fun and a great way to meet your neighbours and school community. Remember, many hands make light work! Volunteers are always needed for the Canteen and upcoming events like the Book Fair, Parent Night Sausage Sizzle, Sports Carnival Sausage Sizzle and Cake Stall, Halloween Disco, and Colour Run. If you are able to assist with

volunteering for any of these events, please email Naomi at [email protected] with your name, contact details and the event of interest.
