SQUARE DANCING Square Dancing is lots of fun. In addition this activity has all of the elements of a healthy life style! Enjoy the light aerobic exercise, the mental stimulation of learning a new skill and the pleasure of making new friends. The caller sings directions set to music and the eight dancers in the square act as a team to complete the calls. No special dress is required; just wear comfortable non-marking shoes. This class is for adult couples and singles and is a progressive class that is open to dancers with no experience as well as returning dancers who want to refresh their skills. SAN JOSE RECREATION PRESCHOOL


Please consider the following policies and requirements before registering for an San José Recreation Preschool class offered by the City of San José: Requirements for parent participation, volunteers, snack, etc varies by center.

Teacher to child ratio is 1:10 or better.

Participants must be toilet trained by first day of program.

Non-registered children are not allowed in the class at any time. Please make arrangements for siblings on your participation day.

A birth certificate may be requested for age confirmations.

The City of San José, Department of Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services provide recreational program ONLY and not licensed childcare.

After reaching the class capacity you child can be put on a waitlist. If a spot becomes available at any SJ Recreation Preschool center, you will receive a call and be given the option to enroll at that center or to stay on the waiting list.

Monthly payment plan is available, with auto-pay on the 20th of each month. A valid credit card must be on file for auto-pay option.

KinderPrep This class prepares your child for kindergarten with age-appropriate activities, learn-ing concepts, socialization skills and fun. Your child will gain a basic understanding of shapes, colors and pre-phonics and literacy building (i.e. identifying letter sounds, and writing the alphabet and simple words), as well as number recognition, and counting up to 30. The goal is to have fun, participate and learn. Children must be fully potty trained before the start of class. Requirements for parent attendance, volunteers, snacks, etc. varies by center. The City of San José has various aquatic offerings for all ages and abili-ties from swimming lessons to open recreation swim times. With over 350 classes at two different locations to choose from for all levels from beginner to intermediate and all ages from six months to adult. Involv-ing children when they are young in safe structured aquatics programs such as those offered by the City of San José and its partners, can begin a lifelong relationship with water which can bring happiness for years to come.

LEISURE CLASS POLICIES Our method of registration is designed to offer equal access to all San José residents. Customers can register for any class at any PRNS facility or online. The City cannot guarantee participation from one session to the next. All online, walk-in, mailed-in, faxed, dropped-off registration will be treated in the same

manner. Sane José residents will be given first priority to register. Registration will be accepted until the second class meeting if the course is still avail-

able. Courses are unavailable when filled to capacity or cancelled due to insufficient enrollment. If the course you request is full, you will be registered for your second choice or placed on a wait list.

Please be prompt when dropping off or picking up your child from his/her class. Chil-dren may arrive to class no earlier than the scheduled class or activity time. Children who arrive late to a class or activity should enter quietly and join in the activity.

If a class instructor is absent or a class is cancelled due to inclement weather, a make-up class will be added to the end of the session.

Refund requests need to be made in writing and submitted to any PRNS facility or by emailing your request to [email protected]

Refunds will be given for class cancellations received in writing by the City at least 14 calendar days prior to the start of the program/class. No refunds will be made for can-cellations received by the City less than 14 calendar days prior to the start of the pro-gram/class.

There will be a $10 refund processing fee for EACH activity and EACH child. It may not be possible to refund the class materials charged by the instructor.

When the class fee is paid by cash or check, a refund confirmation will be sent by e-mail. A refund check will follow 6-8 weeks after the refund confirmation. Credit card refunds will be credited back to the original credit card account within one week of City’s receipt of refund request.

LATE PICK-UP POLICY The San José Department of Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services wants to

ensure the safety and well-being of every participant. Participants must be picked up at the scheduled class end time. If, after five minutes, a participant is not picked up, we may charge $1.00 per participant for every minute thereafter. All fees must be paid prior to the participant returning to the class. We understand that emergencies may happen. If you have an emergency and are unable to pick up on time, please contact the Community Center.

TRANSFER POLICY Transfer requests need to be made two weeks prior to the start of the class in writing

and submitted to any PRNS facility or by emailing your request to: [email protected] Transfers may not be done online. Transfers must be done for classes or activities in the same season.

MINIMUM ENROLLMENT/CLASS CANCELLATION The City of San José Department of Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services reserves the right to cancel any class or activity that does not meet a set minimum enrollment. Please register early to avoid class cancellations. We will make every effort to notify you at least five days prior to the scheduled course starting date. Please do not purchase supplies until five days prior to the start of class. If a class is canceled, you will receive a full refund from the City, excluding class supplies.

PREREQUISITES FOR CLASS Please note all requirements, dates and times for classes offered before enrolling. All participants must meet the age requirement on the first day of the class or activity.

INCLUSION POLICY The City of San José Department of Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services encourages and supports the participation of individuals with all ability levels in pro-grams and services. To facilitate opportunities for people with and without disabilities and to engage in leisure pursuits together, the Department of Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services provides inclusion support services.
