Camera Movement

Tracking/Dolly shot

A camera on wheels – it moves with the action.

Steadicam shotA handheld camera that follows the action or subject. Can simulate a jerky feeling to involve the audience as if they were there.

Zoom shotThe camera lens zooms toward or away from the subject. If done quickly, it can create a dramatic effect or a dreamy effect if done slowly.

Crane shot

On a literal crane or even a drone or helicopter, that looks down on the action, it can move dramatically from ground to a birds eye view or vice versa.

Pan shot

A pivot from the stand of the camera that follows the action.

Trombone shot

Tracks a subject then zooms out, usually to show shock or surprise.
