It has been a long term in terms of weeks but the phrase that comes to mind is “where have the days gone” – we are here checking Data Capture 2 already and planning for spring! On behalf of all of the Greenside staff we would like to thank families for their support, positivity and generosity towards Greenside and all that we achieve; the word partnership is an easy word to use but we feel that so many of our parents/ carers really engaging with us in such a way that together we really can do great things for our students – this is a cliché because it really is true! We would like to wish you all a very happy Christmas period and a fantastically happy and peaceful year ahead. On the last day of term we will be e-mailing just a short message to you all and so this is our last opportunity to share the term’s successes and achievements with you all. 1. Data Capture 2 Next week all our students in Y1 through to Y6 will be taking their Data Capture 2 tests – these are in Reading, Writing and Maths. This is just an opportunity for us to see what our students have learnt in depth and anything that we need to return to next term. We wish all our students lots of luck. 2. Link and Learn Ms. Buchanan tells us: “Last week Nursery and Reception parents/ carers were invited into class during the morning to work with their daughters and sons whilst they were learning Phonics. Parents/ carers were invited to see how we integrate our Phonics learning into all aspects of the class and outdoor area, and how they can all help to support at home too. The children loved having their mums and dads visiting for the morning and were eager to show off all of their fabulous Phonics knowledge! The parents/ carers who attended remarked on how impressed and amazed they were at how much their children could do already at this early stage in the year, and how helpful it was to get a clearer understanding of how we learn at Greenside. We will be holding a few more Link and Learn mornings throughout the year for parents/ carers, following the success of this experience, so keep an eye on the calendar for future dates! 3. Family Lunch Last week our lunch hall turned Italian and some of our lovely Parents/ carers so kindly came in to cook with our Greenside Team to share the Food Experience. Please see the back of the newsletter for more information. 4. Y2 Family Workshop A message from Ms. Webber: “Last week Y2 were delighted to host our parents and carers for a Family Learning afternoon. We all went to the hall and shared a range of lovely Christmas crafts to get us in the festive mood - there were paper chains, Christmas trees and snowflakes aplenty. We listened to Christmas music and even had a singsong! We would like to say a very big thank you to everyone who came and helped make this afternoon so special.”

5. We’re Proud at Greenside I am delighted to share with you a student from each class sharing a piece of work that she/ he is particularly proud of this week! Nursery – Arwen This is a picture of Arwen who was proud of her writing. She worked independently to sound out words and write the letters. She wrote cat, big, and sun. Reception—Romilly I am really proud of this sentence that she had written in phonics. After learning about the ‘ear’ sound,

she was able to independently write “The man had a beard.”

Y1 – Ritaj "I am proud of my wedding dress for Juliet because it has a lovely veil." Y2 - Ivy and Lulah They were really proud of the Romeo and Juliet puppet show that they created. They said: "We used our knowledge of the story and worked together to create a really good production." Y3 – Rio 'I'm proud because I did all my work and when I got angry I took a deep breathe and carried on' Y4 “I’m proud of STEM Learning, all about circuits!” Y5 – Santonio “I am proud of my skull origami because I really wanted to be able to make one and I didn't know how. I did some research and now I can teach anybody, I am now the Y5 resident origami expert!” Y6 – Sadie “I'm proud of this piece of work because I've been learning about graphs in Maths and this was really hard but I managed to get it all done. It was Maths and drawing at the same time which made it fun and it was about a dragon called Sadius.”

Sports Leaders

Our Y6 Girls and Boys have written a piece to share their recent Football match experiences – they have been out and about representing Greenside and the very best of our sporting talent!

Greenside Girl’s Football

December 2016.

We have played only two competitive league matches this term against St. Johns and Wormholt.

We are a very new team and still getting to know ech other in training. In our 1st two matches we weren’t quite ready to take on the world – we played well and were pleased with our overall performance

but…..we lost 3-0 and 2-0.

So we have come back to the training sessions and we are out there practicing our skills ready for match number 3 and 3rd time lucky!

We have a training session from 3.30pm – 4.45pm each week and we have so much fun in the sessions that it makes all the hard work worth-while and we happily take up the challenges we are set. We love that the girls in our squad all work well together as a team to be the best we can possibly be and we

help each other. The other girls in the team are fun to work with and we can easily share ideas and mix together. Everyone in the team loves what we do and they re always willing to do their best for the Glori-

ous Greenside Girl’s Team.

We hope to report some wins and victories as the season goes on – so……watch this space!

From The Girls

A Reflection on the Greenside Boy’s Football Team

December 2016.

So far in the league we have played two matches and continued to be successful. As we started our 1st

game everyone was buzzing with excitement but inside we were all nervous. In our hearts we had a striking mentality to do well and we had a fire burning inside us ready to win. Only seconds after kick off

we scored. We took centre spot and easily go t straight yup the pitch and Rex made a beautiful shot from far away and it flew in to the bottom corner. Everyone cheered with excitement and pride and they

had smiles, which stretched from one side of their faces to the other side. We continued through the match and kept our form. Our defense was rock solid and the attackers were bombing up and down the

pitch. Half time came quickly and it was time to think about the rest of the game.

In the second half the other team scored a goal but we didn’t get our heads down. We kept playing well and towards the end we played amazing football and we managed to score again. The final whistle blew

and we roared with our victory; our 2:1 win!

Our second match was against Wormholt Primary School. It was very tough but we played well again. Hick scored the first goal followed by Alfie and then Teddy. Unluckily they got one past us but the final

score was 3:1 and we experienced victory again!

We hope to carry on this form and perform this well in later matches.

By Dishawn, Muhiadin, Rex, Sean and Thomas – Y6.

Your students were an absolute joy and asked such interesting and perceptive questions. Let’s definitely keep in touch: it’s been an utter pleasure working with you, your brilliant staff and great students. They were a really impressive bunch of students, really well-informed about Documentary and asking such inspired questions. Thanks for the opportunity. It was a joy. Best wishes, Jackie 13. Greenside Community Cooking Day

Last week we enjoyed our first community

cooking day when the parents from our

Italian community joined our kitchen team to

prepare a fabulous lunch for everyone. We enjoyed

polenta with a two different sauces, a tomato &

mozzarella salad and a delicious Tiramisu for

pudding. It was a great success and we would like

to say a huge thank you to Sara and her team of

parents for all their time and hard work in making

this such a special Greenside

Lorenzo’s Family Tiramisu

Lay some sponge finger biscuits in a dish

and soak in just enough hot chocolate to

make it nice and moist. Mix some double

cream, mascarpone cheese and custard

together and spoon over the top of the

biscuits. Dust the top with cocoa powder

and leave in the fridge to rest for an hour

or so. Buon Appetito!
