Dear Parents/ carers We are here this morning to write and say a huge ‘thank you’ for all your support over the year. We love Greenside and our students are wonderful – as we know it may be a cliché but the real success comes with genuine partnership with our families – and you are all so good at working alongside and ‘with us’. We are all set for a re-charge holiday and then we will be back ready to prepare for a wonderful Greenside Film Factory experience for all of our students in September. Do check out our Reception Y2 and Y6 exam/ test results on our web-site. I’m sure you will be very proud of what everyone has achieved. Our results compared to National results are splendid and the progress that our students have made is our greatest achievement. We have had some lovely moments over the last week with Graduation Ceremonies and we send our special ‘best wishes’ to Y6 parents/ carers who are leaving us this week! A reminder that all students in Nursery – Y4 will be Greenside lunch students (no exceptions now please) and do check that you have ordered uniform on-line as we no longer keep spare uniform on site. Wishing you all a peaceful summer and so look forward to seeing you all on Thursday 7 th September at 8.55am. Karen 1. Sumer of Music - Music Crews Last week saw the Music Video event of the year hit Greenside; something MTV or the Billboards Music Awards would have been proud of. We saw music videos from the world of Rock 'n' Roll, World Music, Disco, Electro Music, MoTown and a beautiful video from Early Years, All of these videos showed allowed our students to show their creativity, learning and have great fun doing so. Each video showed the individuality of each Crew and it was great to see how the students interpreted each song and genre differently. All the films were planned, filmed and edited by students and you could see from the films themselves how much fun they had making them. We weren't able to get through all of the films on the viewing day, unfortunately, so we are working on a plan to share them all with families asap so you can sing and dance to your heart's content at home. We will update you ASAP on how and where you can view them! 2. It seems like only a few weeks ago I was meeting families and greeting all the students for the first time. All the students settled into Nursery so quickly at the beginning, and have blossomed ever since. I’ve loved all the trips around London we’ve been on and discussing all the different topics we’ve covered this year- from the existence of aliens to bee conservation! My absolute favourite thing this year though has been getting to know all the students: chatting with them about all the important things happening in their lives, such as the merits of Moana vs. Trolls, or ranking our favourite sea animals in order of preference. All very important conversations indeed! Ms Thomas, Ms Pearson, Ms Black and I will miss this class dearly, and we wish you all well in your Reception learning next year!” b) Reception Ms Morra tells us: “This year has been particularly special to me because it has been my first year teaching at Greenside. year! I can't believe how quickly the time has passed. Please come back and visit the Reception staff as you move on to Y1. We will miss you, but there are so much more exciting things for you to learn and look forward to next year. Thank you especially to all of the parents/ carers for providing such a lovely group of students. It has been such a pleasure teaching them! Your kindness and support has really helped make this year a memorable one. Enjoy your summer holidays! See you soon!” Student Comments: Auberon: "Did you know I can write the words slug and worm now? I can do my phonics and my writing is getting so good now." Romilly: "I really loved the food topic because we got to try different foods and learn about what is healthy for you." c) Y1 Ms Medcalf says: “Y1 should be so proud of what they have achieved this year. The challenges of Y1 seemed daunting to some at the beginning of the year and students were soon able to demonstrate that they were ready to become independent learners as we explored Arrietty's garden. From there on, there was no stopping them! We have had a blast exploring the world and travelling through time with families like the Thornberrys, Flintstones and Jetsons. Over the year, students have not only become fantastic and effective writers but have worked hard to learn new STEM skills. This half term has been a wonderful consolidation of these skills as we have taken our STEM learning to a new level and have become expert scientists, engineers, technicians and mathematicians. Y1 have been fabulous sports along the way and are always incredibly enthusiastic when immersing themselves in film. Well done, Year 1! Student Comments: Una: “My favourite parts of this year have been learning about The Jetsons because I love all things that are hilarious”. d) Y2 A message from Ms Webber: “We have had the most spectacular year in Y2! It has been everything full of learning, discovery and fun. All those trips we have been on, all those STEM projects we have done, all that fabulous writing. We are so proud of all of our Y2 students and everything they have achieved. Well done Y2, you are ready for KS2! Student comments: Mary: “I have enjoyed learning about the Sound of Music because it is a very good topic and the film is wonderful. When I first watched the film, I loved it and in school we have made puppet theatres and costumes. I have loved Y2 and all the amazing things that we have done!” Hassan: “I enjoyed learning about Paper Planes because we made origami birds and we had a paper plane race. It was so exciting, it felt like I was in a real movie.” Andre & Jahmai: “ I did so many good things in Y2. We have had a really fun time but my favourite thing of all was learning about Paper Planes - we found our winged keel!” e) Y3 A farewell from Mr Comnenos: “It was a great pleasure to have your children in my class this year. I appreciate your support from trips and school events to work at home. I wonder if like me you can hardly believe that our time together has come to an end? I have thoroughly enjoyed spending my time teaching at Greenside. It has been a pleasure and a privilege to watch them grow and mature day by day and see how they have developed within the experimental model of learning over since November. Now the academic year has come to an end; our students have become a little prouder, taller, more confident and wiser as the year progressed and they are now ready for the challenge of Y4. We have laughed, played, studied and enriched our lives together during this year. I hope our paths will cross again so that I can hear about their achievements in whatever they decide to do or choose to become.” f) Y4 Ms Samuel reflects: “It's been a real privilege to watch Y4 flourish and grow this year. Inspired by our six film topics, our students have been unafraid to take on big ideas: from analysing the prologue to Romeo and Juliet to discussing the immigrant experience through the lyrics of West Side Story. Meet The Robinsons had us pondering the ethics of time travel, while the Japanese anime, My Neighbour Totoro, led us to consider the boundaries between fantasy and reality. We've had an amazingly rich and varied year and the students are more than ready for the challenges of Y5!”

g) Y5 Mr Johnson reports: “We have had a wonderful year together from exploring the creepy and kooky Addams family to the high jinx of Hairspray. A real roller-coaster with some fantastic learning along the way! The students have all grown into wonderfully world ready human beings ready for the challenges of Y6 and the tests. Thank you to all the wonderful students and families for making my time at Greenside so memorable, I have enjoyed all our projects and the wonderful madness of Greenside. I have a special place in my heart for you and wish you all peace and love in the future.” Student comment: Sabrina: 'I enjoyed discovering about all the Artificial Intelligence, AI has inspired me to learn more about Robots and my favourite part of Y5 was creating the Trojan horse.” h) Y6 Mr Yeats and Ms Davies says: “Y6 have had a whirlwind year with so many amazing experiences and challenges. From Star Wars, all the way to Madagascar, the Y6 students have explored so many different learning experiences they will never forget. They've built Ewok huts; made Google 360 degree videos; been prosecution lawyers for Romeo and Juliet; been CSI investigators; they've built their own Lord of the Flies islands; watched food decaying over weeks and weeks on display; flown to different planets and im-mersed themselves in the bizarre world of Stanley Kubrick. If all that wasn't enough, they've also taken on the end of year examinations in such style and were absolutely brilliant! They were then rewarded with an unforgettable trip Oxford where they took on challenges they never believed possible. Next came Madagascar - say no more. The show spoke for itself and will be talked about for years to come. Finally they graduated this week and took the final step towards secondary school. Y6 have had an incredible year and achieved so many things. They are truly world ready and this is the right time for them all to take this next step. We are so proud of them and cannot wait to hear about the incredible things they do in the future. Well-done Y6. Once Greenside, always Greenside!” i) A message from Ms Thé & Ms Medcalf “Over the last eight years I have had the privilege to teach such inspiring and motivated students, who have made me smile each and everyday! I would like to thank all of the parents/carers for raising such beautiful children and you continued support. I have learnt so much from colleagues; your dedication and passion will be hard to match! Thank you all for the laughs, tears of joy and helping me to become the teacher I am today! I will miss you all and wish each and everyone of you success and happiness for the future. Love Anneka Thé.xxx “It has been an absolute pleasure being part of the Greenside family over the past 3 years. There is no other school like it! From STAR Days to Crew days I have had my richest teaching experiences here and will miss the wonderful creativity that oozes out of this marvellous school. I can't wait to hear all about the great Film Factory experiences that are yet to come. I am so sad to be leaving Greenside but am also excited to begin my new adventure in Malaysia”. Peta Medcalf.

3. ‘Alice in Green Wonderland’ We thought you might like to see these beautiful pictures!

4. Charity & Celebration Another ‘thank you’ – this time it is to everyone who has contributed to our TEF Charity & Celebration project and helped us to fund raise thousands of pounds. We continue in to the autumn term but successes have included our Donation Day, ‘Alice’, singing and busking in Shepherds Bush last week and our Bake Off. As our Y6 say ‘every penny, every p goes to help a refugee’! 5. Stewart Lee visits Greenside We were delighted to share the morning a couple of weeks ago with the comedian Stewart Lee. Stew talked about visiting Arizona for a clown convention/ festival and what comedy can be. He also talked about life as a comedian and shared a real ‘World Ready’ view of his profession. He absolutely loved Greenside! 6. Holiday Postcards from different Places Over the holiday please can we invite all of our students to send me a postcard c/o Greenside with a thought on the uniqueness of the place they are visiting – this could be a different city, country or if you are in London a postcard from your house, the park etc. We are collecting thoughts on ‘places’ to build in to our autumn term Crew Days. A postcard from every student would be wonderful! 7. Graduations Congratulations to our reception, Y2 and Y6 Classes of 2017 – we were very proud to see you graduate this week and proud of the memories you have created and the learning you have done throughout the year. 8. EYFS Sports Day Ms Buchanan remembers: “It may not be an Olympic year but there was enough athletic prowess on the track at Ravenscourt Park to fill a stadium! The Nursery and Reception students participated first in an egg and spoon race where persistence and perseverance was key! They then did a bean-bag balancing race, and finally a running race! Everyone was very impressed with the speed of the students some of them could have given Usain Bolt a run for his money! At last, we all watched as the Nursery and Reception parents raced each other too.”

9. Madagascar Y6 performed a magical production of ‘Madagascar’ this year and it certainly was a treat for our Greenside community. The amount of work and effort they put in to producing, rehearsing, editing and performing the play was exceptional and if you were lucky enough to witness the play, we are sure you would agree with us. They certainly have set a high standard for future years to live up to and we hope they treasure the experience they had. Another highlight of finishing Year 6 is the tea party hosted by our beautiful parents. This was a lovely afternoon full of laughter and the sharing of memories between both students, staff and parents/ carers. We sincerely thank all the wonderful parents, especially Aisha’s mummy for organising and putting on such a wonderful afternoon. I think we are still coming down from the sugar rush! Finally, we end our students’ Greenside careers with our Year 6 Graduation Ceremony. It is always an emotional time when we watch 28 beautiful young souls cross the stage to receive their graduation certificate and be officially pronounced as the “Graduating Class of 2017”. We could not have been prouder of the wonderful young people they are becoming and to hear their reflections about their times at Greenside left a tear in many eyes. We look forward to their return to visit us and hearing all about their new adventures. 10. Bake Off Final On Tuesday 11th July Bundi (Y4) and Isla (Reception) competed in the Great Elliot Bake Off Final against other students in various Elliot schools. They were lucky enough to take part in a baking ‘masterclass’ delivered by Simon Caffrey, who owns his own baking company, The Gingerbread Man! They learnt how to bake chocolate muffins and the science involved in achieving that perfect rise! Simon judged all of the cakes based on their appearance and taste. Each student was interview about their inspiration behind their entry. Bundi stated, "I made an elephant because my grandfather saves them. It's important to me to keep elephants from becoming extinct so that nature can have the same quality of life as humans." Isla explained, "Peace means holding hands and being kind to your friends!" I am so proud to announce that Bundi placed 2nd and Isla placed in 3rd. Well done Greenside! 11. Sports Day Despite a last minute change of venue due to the intense heat, Sports Day went down a storm! Everyone from Y1 - Y6 took part in an obstacle course, the javelin, tunnel ball, the always hilarious 3 legged race and the timeless egg and spoon and of course, the sprint. It was so great to see all our students having such fun enjoying sport. We cannot forget the staff race where everyone was a winner in my book - from the team that came second to last! Although a special mention was promised to Ms Williams and Ms Davis for their bronze medal. It was also fantastic for the students to see so many of our parents/carers take part in their race too. As always, it was hotly contested but in the best sporting attitude. We believe the winners were Amaiyah's mother from Y2 and a very close call between the fathers of Zion (Y2) and Kamron (Y3) with possibly Zi-on's dad getting the nod on the dip. Thank you to everyone for coming along to watch and we look forward to seeing you again next year!

12. Food Team Our student led Food Team has done really well this year to support our school Food Experience. They have created new menu suggestions, consulted with both the kitchen and our students and helped with the development of our vegetable growing area. Thank you to the team for making this the best year yet for school lunches. 13. A message from Jem Shuttleworth – Chair of Governors “As we come to the end of the academic year I would like to thank all of our students, families and staff for another wonderful year of learning at the Greenside Film Factory and wish Y6 the best of luck as they move on to Secondary School. From September we will be working closely with Lena Gardens and Griffin, two other Elliot Foundation schools, with one Local Governing Body supporting all 3 schools. Rachel, Nick Andy and I will be continuing as governors.
