El título de la exposición que presenta la artista Camila Echeverría toma su nombre del fenómeno que se produ-ce cuando el rayo de luz se refracta y se refleja completa-mente. Esto es consecuente con el hecho de que la idea del reflejo es un eje central del trabajo de Echeverría, quien re-corre ciudades con cámara en mano buscando fotografíar los espacios en los que los edificios de vidrios espejados refeljan la arquietctura de la ciudad misma.

Total internal reflection

The title of the show presented by the artist Camila Ech-everría gets its name from the phenomenon produced by the light beam refracted and completely reflected. This is the consequence of the fact that the reflection is the central axis of Echeverria’s work; she walks around the cities with her camera shouting the spaces where the crystal façades buildings, reflect their own architecture.

En la obra de Camila Echeverría la pintura y la fotografía se encuentran en un permanente diálogo, que le permite leer la ciudad a partir de fragmentos de arquitecturas, de fachadas y reflejos. Reflejos que la artista entiende como la proyección simultánea de imágenes que se mezclan, se funden y en las que, tanto ella como los espectadores, pueden transformar su contexto urbano en un espacio metafórico - emocional.

In Camila Echeverria’s work Painting and Photography meet in a permanent dialogue, which permits to read the city from ar-chitecture fragments of façades and reflections. Inverted is project that could be thought as a try of an impossible structure construction, it is nothing else than reassembling a skeleton responsible of sustaining and being a foun-dation pillar. A skeleton which is now presented backwards, gnawed and a bit destroyed and talks to us about what is not present in the first look, what is inside, hidden and that remains underground.

Invertido es un proyecto de las artistas Leyla Cárdenas, Camila Echeverría y Alexandra Mc-Cormick, curado por Ximena Gama. Estará presente en la sala del Centro Colombo Ameri-cano desde el 23 de agosto hasta el 14 de septiembre de 2012.

Tal como su nombre lo indica, Invertido, es una apuesta por “cambiar, sustituir por sus contrarios, la posición, el orden o el sentido de las cosas”. La instalación –una serie de estructuras de papel que serán suspendidas del techo– al hacer presente ciertos elemen-tos que determinan un lugar y que a simple vista son imposibles de ver, abrirá preguntas sobre un sentido de fundación. A través de la acción de girar o voltear andamios que en principio deberían ser fuertes, estables y con la capacidad de sostener, y sustituirlos por unos frágiles y volátiles, obliga a que se piense y se cuestione la manera cómo está cons-truido nuestro entorno: no solo a partir de ciertas jerarquías espaciales como el arriba y el abajo, el sur, el norte y el centro, sino también de esas relaciones de poder que se tejen, esos sistemas invisibles que categorizan un mundo y de esos hilos que están establecidos o aquellos que aún no se han institucionalizados.

Este proyecto que puede pensarse como un intento de construcción de una estructura imposible, no es otra cosa que volver a armar un esqueleto que tuvo como función soste-ner y ser un pilar de fundación. Un esqueleto que ahora se presenta al revés, roído y algo destruido y que nos habla de aquello que no está presente a primera vista, lo de adentro, lo escondido y lo que permanece bajo tierra.

El detector de procesos artísticos tiene como princi-pal propósito indagar y pensar en aquellos elemen-tos que hacen parte del proceso de un artista – diarios, lecturas, bocetos, metodologías, rutinas, ejercicios.

El proyecto muestra una primera propuesta de mapa con las pistas de 28 artistas, las conexiones y las re-laciones que en un primer análisis pudimos descifrar.

Para navegarlo, ubique el Detector de Procesos Artísti-cos, siga las líneas amarillas, lea los nombres de los artis-tas y sus palabras clave creando así su propio recorrido.

The artistic processes detector’s main purpose is to investigate and think about all those elements that make part of an artist process – diaries, read-ings, drawings, methodologies, routines, exercises. It proposes a Map with the 28 artists’ “tracks”, the connec-tions and relationships we could find in a first level of analysis.

To navigate the map, we suggest you to follow the yellow lines, read the names of the artists and their key words of their work, creating your own journey.

Philips holandés es un recorrido por las sedes de las primeras emisoras Bogotanas HJN, La voz de Colombia, La voz de Bo-gotá, Radio Cristal o Radio Cristóbal Colón, La Voz de La Víc-tor, Radios Clandestinas y Ultimas Noticias, fundadas entre 1930 y 1940. A partir de los archivos sonoros de transmisio-nes radiales de esas emisoras, conservados en la fonoteca de RTVC (Radio y Televisión de Colombia), surge una inter-vención pública donde a través de una mezcla de sonidos de la época con entrevistas, se rescata la memoria de la prim-era generación expuesta al invento de la radio en Colombia.

Philips hokandés is a journey through the first radio sta-tions HJN, La voz de Colombia, La voz de Bogotá, Ra-dio Cristal o Radio Cristóbal Colón, La Voz de La Víc-tor, Radios Clandestinas y Ultimas Noticias, founded between 1930 and 1940 in Bogotá. From the broadcast sound archives, preserved at the Radio and Teletvi-sion Colombian entity, comes out a public intervention where a mixture of sounds from the 30’s and 40’s with interviews and sound edition, reveals the memories of the first generation exposed to the radio in Colombia.

Un Mapa es un testimonio, un archivo móvil, una representación de un territorio que habitamos y una ruta para llegar a casa. Por esta razón, al final del proceso lo que faltaba para llegar al punto final, era una nueva serie en serigrafía de 4 mapas emocionales, geográficos y abstractos, que hicieran visibles esas fronteras propias, a través de la unión entre el mapa oficial de Bogotá del Agustín Codazzi y el mapa encontrado de Israel, Jordania y Egipto, del que retomo algunas estrategias gráficas que el cartógrafo en 1947 usó para representar su territorio.

A map is a statement, a mobile archive, the territory we inhabit representation and a route to go home. This is why, at the end of my creative and research process, the only missing to get to the final point, was a series of emotional, geographical and abstract maps. 4 screen impressions show their own borderlines, using some of the cartographer’s graphic strategies, resumed in the union of Agustín Codazzi’s oficial map of Bogotá, and a founded map from Israel, Egypt and Jordan printed in 1947.

El proyecto “Detour” es una forma de acercarnos críticamente a la historia del centro de Bogotá y generar reflexiones sobre las posibilidades de nuevas relaciones con el pasado, desde una aproximación visual, textual y sonora. Buscamos alejarnos de la forma lineal, cronológica y continua de la historia, para acercarnos más al entendimiento de una temporalidad múltiple y fracturada, donde los significados cerrados y totalizadores no tienen cabida.

La aproximación a Odeón tiene que ver no sólo con el espacio físico, con el edificio en sí, sino también con sus alrededores, sus historias y los silencios que lo conforman. Un aproximación al proyecto moderno, para acercarnos a algunos dispositivos -principalmente revistas, periódicos, planos de la ciudad, propuestas urbanísticas y registros fotográficos- que contribuyeron a la producción de ese nuevo sujeto y consecuentemente a la generación de los deseos y fantasías sobre la anhelada Modernidad.

“Detour” is a project which brings us closer to a critical position toward down town Bogotá’s History, generating reflexions about new relationships with our past, from a visual, textual and sound approach. We look for a way to avoid chronology and lineal interpretation of History, to get closer to the understanding of a multiple and fractured temporality, where closed meanings and totalized interpretations are not welcome.

The correspondence with Odeon is related not only with its physical space, with the building itself, but also with its surroundings, stories and silences. Odeon is also an approximation to the modern project and we prove it through the use of tools like magazines, news papers, city plans and maps, urbanist projects y photographical archives, which show the creation of the new subject and in consequence, of new desires and fantasies characteristic of the so expected Modernity.
