    Dear Parents,

    We are very happy that your child will be joining us at Camp Fire Camp CaHio. We have an

    outstanding sta team, and amazing programming that is sure to make this summer anunorgettable one or your campers.

    Our sta team goes through a rigorous screening and selection process with interviews, reerencechecks and ngerprinting. All o our sta are required to go through a training program,including First Aide, Child Abuse Prevention and inclusion. Please be aware that we are located at3101 Balboa Drive on the west side o Balboa Park. Te ofcial day camp hours are 9:00 am - 3:00pm. Drop o begins at 8:30 am and pick up needs to be by 3:30 pm. Campers must be signed inand out by a parent/guardian or other adults listed in the camper packet or specied in writing

    Te camp gate will be closed to all vehicle trafc at all times. Parking is limited to on the street. Asign in table will be stationed within the gates on the right hand side. You must come in to campto sign in and out your camper. Please be ready to show identication, this is or the saety o yourcampers. For extended hours, camp is open at 7:30 am and will close promptly at 6:00 pm. Tere isa ee schedule or this program, please see registration packet or details. A snack will be providedduring the pm extended hours.

    Jewels is a San Diego native growing up in the Camp Fire San Diego program,she has been involved with Camp Fire or over een years working her waythrough the CI program, to being a Counselor, and eventually becomingDirector o Marketing & Outdoor Education. She joined Camp Fire ull timethe summer o 2009 with tons o energy and enthusiasm, and has grown CampFire two hundred and orty percent in that short time. She recently has beenappointed as the Interim Executive Director and will continue Camp Fires

    Half-Day Camps (Campers ages 3 - 5)I your 3-5 year old ispotty-trained but not quite ready or the ull day camp experience, these camps are

    or them. Hal-Day Camp runs rom 9:00am to 12:30pm daily. Tese camps are idealor the parent who would like their child to learn some new skills with the CampFire curriculum and still have the second hal o the day to spend that importantquality time together.

    Traditional Day Camps (Campers ages 4-18 years old)Tese whole-some and un camps are set in Balboa Park at Camp CaHio there are variousthemes to choose rom and dierent activities each day. Camp Fire builds caring,condent youth and uture leaders, these camps use the Camp Firecurriculum to acilitate outdoor games, songs, skits and sel growth. Activitiesinclude hiking, archery, arts and cras, sports, signing, swimming and much more.

    Discovery & Horizon Camps (Campers ages 12-16 years old)Tere will only be 11 openings or each session so make sure you sign up today toreserve a spot. Tese camps are a chance or our seasoned CaHioites to try some-

    thing new and dierent, and an opportunity or our DASHers and CIs to kick back,relax, and enjoy a week o just being campers! A unique and adventurous Camp Fireexperience! Campers will take three eld trips througout the week, and during theother two days, campers will participate in a variety o traditional camp activities, at

    a higher difculty and skill level. One o our daytrips will be to WoLaHi, our resident camp nearLake Cuyumaca that is in the rebuilding phase; orshing and hiking. One week prior to each week a

    DASH (Campers 15-16 years old) Director and Sta Helpers(DASH) the program is specically designed or our uture

    leaders. Tis two phase program rst sends your teenthrough a ull training, learning how to work with 4-11year olds, learning leadership skills, camp songs, gamesand cras. Aer successully completing training andachieving Dash Status, participants will then beassigned to assist our talented day camp sta with thedaily operation o camp. Tis program provides anexcellent opportunity or teens to obtain hands on job

    experience and learn leadership responsibilities, while stillunder the supervision o our camp sta team. All DASH must gothrough the training session.

    CIT (Campers 17-18 years old) Counselors in raining (CI) the program isspecically designed to urther develop our uture leaders. CIs are required toattend a training session, learning how to work with 4-11 year olds, urther

    developing their leadership skills, leading camp songs in the morning,implementing games and cras with the campers. Preerably CIs should have gonethrough the DASH program or a similar program/training. CIs will be assigned toassist our talented day camp sta with the daily operation o camp; creating andconsulting on program ideas with their assigned counselor. Tis program providesan excellent opportunity or teens to obtain hands on job experience, learnleadership responsibilities, and gain more job responsibility; while still under thesupervision o our camp sta team. All CI must go through the training session.

    Facility Drop Off & Pick UpCamp Fire Camp CaHio is located at 3101 Balboa Drive, San Diego, CA 92109 on

    the west side o Balboa Park. Te ofcial traditional day camp hours are 9:00 am -3:00 pm. Drop o begins at 8:30 am and pick up needs to be by 3:30 pm. We do oerextended hours or an additional nominal ee, morning extended hours start at 7:30am and aerhours end promptly at 6:00 pm. A snack will be provided during the pmextended hours.

    Attention: Tursday morning is Street Sweeping Day in the park. We do our best

    to make the process o dropping of campers smooth & ast, however we can-not guarantee you will not get a ticket i you park on Balboa Dr. We have a 10-15

    minute Drop Of Zone on Tursdays, i the Zone is Full we recommend parkingon Sixth Ave and walking across the park to sign your campers in. We are sorry

    or the inconvenience.

    Road Closures I or some reason the city closes the gate to Balboa Drive, pleasepark on 6th Avenue and walk your child in. We can not control road closures, but doapologize or any inconvenience.

    Camp Policies

    Deposits & PaymentsA $107.50 deposit per session is required tohold a campers spot in any session. I you select to pay with a deposit the remaining

    due will need to be paid out 2 weeks prior to the session start date through our newonline registration system. Beore camp starts we pay our vendors, buy supplies andhire our sta according to the enrollment numbers. Tese are the reasons or ourpolicy.

    Refund Policy A request to cancel your enrollment in a camp is requiredin writing (orms are located in the ofce) 14 days prior to the rst day o camp. Youwill receive a CaHio Voucher minus your deposit good or 6 months. Tere will beno Vouchers or Reunds due to illness. Full reunds will only be issued i CampCaHio cancels the camp.

    Session Transfer A session transer request will be accepted 14 days priorto each camp session. Tere will be no transers processed aer the 14 day deadline.All transers are subject to availability.

    Last Minute Registration Fee Please note that last minute regis-trations are subject to an additional ee. Registration prices will go up 5 days in ad-

    vance to the start o camp programs. Te ee or last minute registrations is an addi-tional $25.

    Financial Assistance CampershipsCamperships are available on a rst come, rst serve basis. A

    amily must meet the required guidelines in order to receive unding,Financial Assistance applications are available online. Required Documents: First 2pages o your 2011/12 Federal Income ax Form & W2 (Incomplete applications willnot be processed. & additional documentation may be required)

    Overnight Camps

    Overnight CampsOvernights are a way to make your campers experience at Camp CaHio one o a

    kind. For $60 campers get an experience o a lietime, while sleeping and playingunder the stars, activities correlate to the weeks theme.

    Overnights begin Tursday at 3:00pm right aer a traditional day at camp,campers are provided an aernoon snack, dinner, breakast and lunch the ollowingday.     Placement is an opportunity or DASH and CIs who have successully completedour training course to use their leadership skills in the eld o camp and enjoy therewards o working with Camp Fire Camp CaHios incredible sta team andcampers. DASH and CIs will experience various camp programs, assist in the dailyoperations o camp, and receive valuable on-the-job experience that will help buildstrong leadership skills. Our DASH and CI coordinator will be making placementsinto age appropriate groups the Friday o the week prior to camp. I you sign up overthe weekend, your placement will be made Monday morning by 8:30am. eens will

    practices, summer school, well-deserved vacations. But camp is a gi. I ever oursociety needed a generation o uture leaders who understood the intricacies oliving in a community, having tolerance, and being open in nature that time isnow.

    Why a Camp Fire Camp?Camp Fire has always recognized curious youth exploring their world need a secure

    place to grow up. And since 1910 weve provided that place, through in-and-out oschool programs and camps. Camp Fire believes when youth get the chance to beoutdoors, to work with others in community, and learn to respect nature they betterrespect themselves. Were proud o the role we have playedand continue to playin guiding young lives to an appreciation o their own lives and the world we all livein.

    Camp StaffCamp Fire counselors are careully chosen and trained. All meet the standard pro-gram requirements o Camp Fire. Most camp sta are college students majoring inrecreation, education, or child development. All sta is required to participate in aweek long pre-camp training session, in addition to regular daily and weekly stameetings.

    Physical RequirementsWhile at camp, children will be involved in a variety o physical activities in the

    outdoors. Camp Fire requires parents to ll out a current health history or everycamper. Campers without signed health history orms will not be allowed to stay.Campers with special needs may be required to obtain a doctors release to attendcamp.

    Health and SafetySaety is our top priority at camp. All sta members are trained in First Aid and CPRprocedures. In the event o illness or injury, parents will be notied immediately byphone. Te camp health supervisor holds and dispenses all medications whilecampers are in our care.

    What if my camper has medications?I your camper takes medication, please check in medications with the camp healthsupervisor on the rst day. Please make sure all directions or medications are onthe Health History Form.

    What campers should bring to Camp A lunch. Rerigeration is not available, so do not

    send perishable oods. A small snack will beprovided everyday or you can bring your own.

    A Water bottle with your campers name on it. Comortable play clothes, as campers WILL get dirty. Closed toed shoes and socks are required. No sandals or open back shoes. A hat or cap and sunscreen. Parents are required to apply lotion beore camp or

    their childs protection. Te camp counselors are not allowed to help apply.

    What campers should not bring to Camp Please keepvaluables, electronic equipment, toys, personal sports equipment etc. at home. Allprogram supplies will be provided. Camp Fire is not responsible or lost, stolen ordamaged personal property.

    Little Stars: 1:6 Camper to sta ratio. Staright: 1:8 Camper to sta ratio. Adventure: 1:10 Camper to sta ratio. Discovery: 1:10 Camper to sta ratio.

    How do I communicate with the Staff?Camp sta will be available everyday beore and aer camp starts to answer any andall questions or concerns you might have about your child. All inormation betweenparent and Camp Sta is condential.

    Can staff babysit?Although Camp Fire Camp CaHio sta work

    well with children, our policy states that our staare not permitted to babysit or amilies involvedin our programs.

    Can staff accept presents?Although our sta work long, challenging hours,our policy states that employees are not to accept

    ages and grades o the children. Please note that the riends requested must requestyour camper and be in the same grade in school.

    What happens if my camper has a

    discipline problem at camp?Camp Fire Camp CaHio sta is trained and is expected to resolve behaviorproblems in a positive manner. Our sta speak with the child, allowing him/her totake time out to think about the problem, discuss the problem/solution with thechild, then let the child return to the activity. In more severe cases, the child will bekept out o the activity and the parent will be asked to pick up their child. ogether,parents and Camp Fire Camp CaHio sta will work out a custom-designedbehavior modication method depending on the severity o the problem,. In the

    event the problems persists, the child may be suspended or expelled rom theprogram. Some acts may result in immediate suspension or expulsion including butnot limited to; ghting, intentionally harming others, the, and possession oweapons or drugs. Camp does not grant reunds or credits or missed days due to abehavior program.

    Do you have a Lost and Found?We know that sometimes things get lost, please label all o your childs belongings.

    Our camp Lost and Found is located at the sign in/out desk. Please eel ree to checkor your childs lost and ound items. Items le or over three weeks with be donatedto charity.

    What is Camp Fire Camp CaHiTos

    bathroom procedure?All campers must use the buddy system, nocamper is ever alone. All campers will take tripsto the bathroom with the entire camp and/or

    camp groups escorted by camp sta. Camperswill only use bathrooms inspected or saetyby camp sta.

    How old do you have to be to go swimming atCamp?I your camper is in Adventure, Discovery, DASH or CI he/she can go swimmingat the Boy Scouts o America pool, each camper will need a release orm lled outprior to going, the release orm can be ound in the Application Package. Swimmingis an hour long, campers will leave camp at 10:30am and return at approx 12:30pm,with the exception o the Water Daze Week when campers will possibly have

    extended swimming.

    What if it rains?Camp runs rain or shine. I weather conditions require it, we will move inside orindoor activities.

    Is there closing ceremonieseach week for my camper?Yes, every Friday we have closing ceremonies or campers starting at 2:00pm. Weinvite parents or guardians to watch their child receive an award, meet the sta andthe new riends your child has made throughout the week

    Tips to Help Preschool Campers have Smooth

    TransitionsCamp is a great place or preschoolers to learn how to interact with other kids, sharetake turns, ollow rules and appreciate and respect the outdoors. Camp can alsoprepare kids or kindergarten and beyond. However, we do recognize that there aremany emotions that can accompany leaving your child at camp. Fears and anxietiesare to be expected, however to make sure that you and your child get the most out othe experience below are a ew tips.

    Spend time talking with your child about camp even beore it starts. It isnecessary or you to recognize this is a pivotal step you and your camper aretaking. However, too much emphasis on this step may worsen anxiety and ears.Young children can sense the worry so the more calm and condent you are inyour choice o sending your child to camp, the more at ease your child will be.

    When you enter Camp Fire Camp CaHio on the rst day, allow the counselorsintroduce themselves and set the tone and orm a relationship with your camper.

    I you show that you are comortable with that counselor, your child will orma better bond. I your camper cries or clings to you, dont let it upset you. Tecounselor will take the right steps to comort and ease your child into the camp.

    We realize that leaving your child is very hard, but once you do it, it is veryhelpul i you leave promptly. Make sure to say your good-bye and then tell themyou will see them at lunch and then depart. Long arewells and language suchas i you dont like it here, you let your counselor know only reinorces thecampers anxieties and makes it harder on the camper, counselor and you. A

    consistent predictable goodbye ritual is also helpul and eases the whole process.Keep in mind that most campers do just ne once their parents leave.
