WHAT TO BRING

SOMEWHERE OVER THE RAINBOW

A collaboration with Theatre Aspen

Envision your own faraway lands, then use your artistic skills to bring them to life

with puppets, theatrical backdrops, and more! This session culminates in a showcase

Discover the flora and fauna that call Basalt home. Investigate and illustrate aquatic

insects, make a floral portrait, create your own map of the confluence, learn about

and build a 3D beaver lodge, and print a fish!

STARS AND STRIPES

Create and play in this process-driven mini-camp. Students will explore the art in

cardboard using a variety of art materials. Go home with a sculpture, play mask, and

THE STORY OF THE FOREST *

Ages 11-14

The forests affected by the 2018 Lake Christine Fire have many stories to tell. Focus

on the ecological regeneration of the ecosystems that were burned. Participants

will spend time walking around the burn zones, collecting footage and communicate

these stories through a digital story.

FANTASTIC FASHION: ENCHANTED FOREST

Explore fashion ideation and design. Spend your day repurposing, embellishing,

decorating, and modeling your own wearable art! Study color, shape, line, and

texture. Learn illustration, pattern making, basic hand sewing, and beading in this

fabulous five-day fashion class. Theme: Enchanted Forest.

SALTY EXPLORATIONS

Create clay sea monsters, construct mixed media fish nets, make sand candles, tie

dye pirate bandanas, paint with salt, and fly a fish windsock. Learn how to make

whale and fish folded origami and use our new nautical vocabulary to create poetry.

JUNIOR NATURE ILLUSTRATOR *

Spend your days capturing and recording your field discoveries in a handmade

journal—all while sharpening your drawing skills with a published illustrator! Class

Using the foundations of STEAM, students will create unique art using digital and

traditional tools! Learning the basic mechanics of movement, make a robot that

actually creates art, construct a pendulum for illustration, and dive into the science

behind explosions.

Discover the art in the wild kingdom! Create artwork inspired by animals and unique

peacocks, elephants, bald eagles, and alligators!

PROJECT PHOTOSHOOT *

Ages 9-13

Learn about composition, contrast, and lighting while examining the power of

photography—be the director, artist and editor and create a photo book to take

home. Students must bring their own technology that has a working camera and

should be familiar with their own device in order to feel successful.

ANIMAL ART *

Ages 6-9

Make new farmyard friends and learn about the different habits and behaviors of

the RBR animals and wildlife. In the afternoon, practice painting and drawing your

favorite furry or feathered pal, and then bring it to life through sculpture!
