Woods Creek Montessori is pleased to announce its first STEM Enrichment Summer Program! Despite all that the Rockbridge Area has to offer its residents, not the least of which is our outstanding university community, our rural location lacks quality summer enrichment opportunities for elementary students interested in math and science. To meet this need, WCM has developed a program of our own, and we will host the inaugural Summer STEM camp June 13 - June 24.

STEM is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math education and is coupled with hands-on, problem-based learning. The first week, June 13 - 17, will focus on science. The second week, June 20 - 24, will focus on math and technology. Each day at WCM Summer STEM will feature two enrichment sessions - the morning session from 9 -11 a.m. and the afternoon session from 1 - 3 p.m.

Professors at W&L and VMI, many of whom have WCM connections, have graciously agreed to lead the instruction at our Summer STEM Camp. For the inaugural year, we plan to limit enrollment to 20 students who are rising 4th, 5th and 6th graders. Priority will be given to current and alumni students of Woods Creek Montessori.

While STEM themes are campus-wide, the formal STEM program taught by college professors only will take place in the 4th - 6th elementary classrooms.

Introducing our new STEM Program

Welcome to an enriching summer experience as your children enjoy unique and engaging themed weeks at Woods Creek Montessori. Our team of skilled and enthusiastic teachers are dedicated to engaging your child through interactive learning and fun. Each week is designed to appeal to ages one to ten years old.

Our nine sessions of summer camp will include your child’s favorite Woods Creek Montessori summer activitiesincluding creek play, science exploration, and local field trips. We also will explore many new ones, such as gardening, Dr. Seuss adventures, back to the Renaissance, and more.

Throughout the summer, we incorporate Montessori practices which emphasize independence and freedom within limits while demonstrating grace, courtesy, and respect.
