entrances, and full concierge. The building was built around the beautiful ornamental garden to the rear, giving it a rural, country feel.

Campden Hill Court and the surrounding area has an intriguing history. During the Tudor era, Kensington was a small village centered around St Mary Abbots Church which is located a short walk from the block. Kensington and Chelsea first originated from Saxon settlements with both areas mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086.

Royalty first moved into the area in 1689 when William III resided at Kensington Palace. Queen Victoria was born in Kensington Palace in 1819 and continued to reside there until her accession to the throne in 1837. In accordance with the Queen Victoria’s wish the title of ‘The Royal Borough’ was given to Kensington after her death in 1901. In the census of

1801, Kensington was recorded as having a population of 8,500 and Chelsea 11,600. By 1831 this had risen to 20,902 and 32,371 respectively. It was only in 1861 that Kensington overtook its neighbour in population size. The two boroughs were united fairly recently in 1965 to form the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.

The building was developed in 1898 when the three original bocks A, B and C were built by Thomas Boyce of Bloomsbury. Renowned author Harold Clunn describes Campden Hill Road as, “...an agreeable residential quarter, built on rising ground and containing several large mansions built in the mid 19th century.” These handsome residences included Holly Lodge, Cam House, and Aubrey House and the area gained the nickname ‘The Duckeries’ from its neighbouring inhabitants.
