Beg to call the attention of the trade that to the combined efforts of expert departmental buyers, going te Britain twice a year, and a resident staff there, they are enabled, by watching the home markets thoroughly, to contract and purchase lines of goods not obtainableelsewhere.

They can confidently assert that no house in the Dominion has elaborated and systematized their business to such an extent. The effects and consequences are that year by year their trade constantly and uniformly increases.

The stock is always large and varied and continually supplemented by new purchases of the latest novelties and value.

LONDON ADVERTISEMENTS.

INTRODUCTION.

In placing before their patrons the present issue of the " London City Directory," the publishers wish to state that every effort has been made to have the work as reliable as it is possible to have a publication of this kind.

So as to facilitate the finding of a name the plan of dittoing, and not re-peating, as heretofore, has been adopted.

The color of the cover has also been changed, so that at a glance the pres-ent book can be distinguished from that of 1887.

The following is the number of names contained in the Directory, as com-pared with the last four issues :

1883

1884

1886

1887

1889

979

5 85 617

These figures show an increase all round, which should be very gratifying to the citizens.

The publishers regret that the patronage this year has not been equal to that of the previous issues, and trust thit the present Directory will be found so ccenplete as to insure a large increase of patronage to the work next time.
