Canada’s Pacific Rim featuring Vancouver, Victoria & Vancouver Island
June 22nd – July 2nd , 2017 escorted by Tim Rogers
Thursday June 22nd, 2017 Vancouver
Meals include: Lunch
On arrival in Vancouver, very early in the day, we will head to lunch overlooking the most
alluring beach in Vancouver - The Boathouse Restaurant on Kitsilano Beach. After lunch
we are on our way to the University of British Columbia to visit the famous Museum of
Anthropology where we will be met by our private guide. MOA, Canada’s contemporary
museum of world arts and cultures, is a place of extraordinary architectural beauty,
provocative programming, and exciting
exhibitions. From towering totem poles
in their spectacular Great Hall, to the
iconic “The Raven and the First Men”
sculpture in the Bill Reid Rotunda, to
more than 10,000 objects from around
the world MOA offers endless
opportunities for visitors to discover and learn about their own and other cultures.
After our time at UBC we will transfer to our Hotel for the next 2 nights - The Pinnacle
Hotel Vancouver Harbourfront.
About the Hotel.... The Pinnacle Hotel Vancouver Harbourfront is located in the
beautiful Coal Harbour area, and is just steps from the famous Stanley Park Seawall,
Vancouver Convention Centre, Canada Place Cruise Ship terminal and the world-class

Friday June 23rd, 2017 Vancouver
Meals include: Breakfast & Lunch
This morning, after included breakfast, we are off to the
Britannia Mining Museum only an hour’s drive from Vancouver.
The Museum site itself is an exhibit - from historical
machinery to heritage buildings they also house permanent
exhibits that offer an insight into the social history of the
Britannia Mines and the mining history of BC. The 1908
Machine Shop is also home to a number of historic pieces of
equipment. Our group will take a trip similar to miners of 1914
as we climb aboard our mine train and chug into this early
haulage tunnel.
Our next visit is to the Sea to Sky Gondola where a ten
minute gondola ride will transport us to a point 850
metres above Howe Sound on a route between Shannon
Falls and the Stawamus Chief granite cliffs. We will also
enjoy lunch at the Summit Lodge. The west coast design
offers massive windows and huge Douglas Fir beams to
make it a great place to enjoy lunch surrounded by the
mountains. After lunch and descending on the Gondola we
will visit Shannon Falls which, composed of a series of
cliffs and rising 335 metres above Highway 99, makes it the third highest falls in the
province. On our return to Vancouver we will enjoy the evening and dinner at leisure.

Sunday June 25th, 2017 Vancouver - Tofino
Meals include: Breakfast & Dinner
This morning after breakfast we depart for Horseshoe Bay to take the 2 hour ferry ride
to Nanaimo. On arrival we continue with our coach (which crosses with us on the ferry)
and drive to Tofino and The Best Western Tin Wis Resort Lodge - our home for the next
3 nights. Tonight we will enjoy dinner at the hotel and after dinner we have a real treat in
store. We have arranged a private “Introduction Presentation” by one of the park guides
from the Pacific Rim National Park Reserve.
Overnight: Best Western Tin Wis Resort Lodge
About the hotel... The Tla-o-
qui-aht First Nations Best
Western Tin Wis Resort is our
home for the next 3 nights. All
the guest rooms are ocean view,
located just steps away from
McKenzie Beach.
Monday June 26th, 2017 Tofino/Bear Watch/Tofino Botanic Garden
Meals include: Breakfast
This morning is reserved for a bear watching cruise. Sitting in solitude watching a bear
munching contently on shellfish is a sight and sound you won’t soon
forget. To observe bears feeding and interacting in their natural
habitat without disturbing them is an incredible experience. Guests
on the Bear Watch cruise are excited to see bears just being
bears. Since they do not feed or alter the bear’s behavior, you
really get a chance to enjoy natural behavior in a way that you
never could in a zoo or wildlife refuge. You can easily see how bears
have won a place in our imagination. Bear behavior often reflects their distinct
personalities and the skippers can often recognize individual bears.
When our morning on the water ends we will return to the
hotel for lunch on your own.
This afternoon we are visiting the Tofino Botanical
Gardens... twelve acres of gardens, forest, and shoreline
that explore the relationship between culture and nature.
Tofino Botanical Gardens Foundation, a non-profit
registered Canadian charity, operates educational programs
and provides information about temperate rainforest
conservation.
A network of paths and boardwalks will take us from the Café and Gift shop around the
flower, herb and kitchen gardens, the duck pond, and Children’s Garden into the forest,
where clearings have been transformed into a series of pocket gardens, art installations
and garden buildings.
We return to the hotel for an evening and dinner at leisure.

Tuesday June 27th, 2017 Pacific Rim National Park
Meals Include: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
We have our first walk in the Pacific Rim National Park this morning. We will meet our
private park guide and are off on a Nuu-Chah-nulth culture
walk. The Nuu-chah-nulth Trail is one of the most interesting
trails in the Pacific Rim National Park Reserve. Starting at the
south of the Kwisitis Visitor Centre on Wickaninnish Beach,
this interpretive trail takes us along the beautiful coastline,
through the thick old-growth rainforest, towards Florencia
Bay. It boasts ocean views and teaches you about the history
and culture of the Nuu-chah-nulth people. Nuu-chah-nulth-aht is comprised of many
individual First Nations and they have inhabited this coast for over 5000 years. The trail,
as well as the park, is on traditional territory. A "hahulthi" is a Chief's traditional
territory and includes the land, ocean, people and everything living and non-living within
that territory. It is tradition that the Chief is responsible for caring for his or her
territory for generations to come.
We will enjoy an included lunch at Kwisitis Feast House.
Tuesday June 27th, 2017 continued
Meals Include: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
This afternoon we will rejoin our Park Guide and enjoy the Seashore Exploration Walk.
The Seashore guided walk will be different every time as it depends on what is found on
the beach. You may get to hold a Starfish, use Bull Kelp as a horn, dig for Blood Worms,
play with California Beach Hoppers, touch Rockweed, and see Acorn Barnacles and Mussels
up close. Our group will learn some tips to lessen our impact on visits to the shore such as
leaving marine animals and plants fastened to rocks, treading carefully so as not to crush
what is underneath you, and return what you find to the location where you found it.
After a wonderful day in the Park dinner is included tonight at our hotel.

Wednesday June 28th, 2017 Lady Rose to Port Alberni
Meals Include: Breakfast & Dinner
This morning we board the M.V. Lady Rose at
Ucluelet for a 4 ½ hour cruise to Port Alberni. (Our
coach will drive and meet us there!) You are about
to spend a day much as you might have done over 60
years ago, when ships like the Lady Rose were the
principal means of transportation along the B.C.
coast. You'll have plenty of time to look for wildlife
and enjoy the scenery. We will overnight tonight
and enjoy dinner at The Hospitality Inn Port
Alberni.

Thursday June 29th, 2017 Port Alberni - Victoria
Meals Include: Breakfast & Dinner
Today is what can be described as a blood pressure lowering day, as we leave Port Alberni
we have a short drive to Little Qualicum Falls Provincial Park, one of the prettiest on
Vancouver Island. We will also stop in Coombs at The Coombs
Old Country Market, well-known for the family of goats which
nimbly graze on its grass roof and Chemainus which is a huge
outdoor art gallery of world-famous murals! We will also stop
at Duncan, the hub of the Cowichan Valley, which is the
traditional home of the Coast Salish Indians. Our destination
is Victoria and we will travel towards South Central Vancouver

Nations word meaning “the land warmed by the sun”.
On arrival in Victoria we will spend the next 3 nights at The Chateau Victoria Hotel which
proudly boasts that it is ” Canada’s finest independent hotel. We are truly unique. We
pride ourselves on providing spacious and affordable Victoria accommodation”.
