The Canadian Football League (CFL) is a professional

league located entirely in Canada that plays Canadian football

The league's top trophy, the Grey Cup, was donated by Governor-General Earl Grey in 1909 to the team winning the Senior Amateur Football Championship of Canada

Has since become known as the Grey Cup

1956 - Canadian Football Council was formed (CFC)

1958 - renamed the Canadian Football League (C.F.L)

The mid 1990’s - The league expended to include team in the U.S

Current – There are 9 teams Eastern and Western divisions in Canada

Offence

Quarter Backs (1) Receives -> leader - Passing the ball to receiver, running and handing the ball off to another back

Running Backs (2) Full & half backs -> the main runner - Catch the ball or block on pass plays

Wide Receivers/ Tight End (2 or 3) -> line up on the line of scrimmage - Runs down the field in order to catch a forward pass from the quarter back.

Center (1) - Hikes the ball to the quarterback (pass blocker on pass plays)

Offensive linemen (4) Left & Right Guards and Tackles -> centre / the end of offencive- Helps protect quarter back and good pass blockers

Kickers / Punters (1 of each) - Converts or kick off / on third downs

Safety(2) -> last line of defense - Can offer run support

Linebackers(2) - Try to tackle the running back (get past defensive linemen or short pass play)

Defensive Ends(2)-> line up on the line of scrimmage or end of line - Pass play or tackle the running back

Tackles(2)-> opposite the left or right offensive tackle - Running back to stop the run

Nose Guard (1) -> line up in front of the centre

- Block up the middle and help the tackles stop the run
