hoosing which container to use can be just as difficult as selecting your colors and scents. What is most important is that your jars are made of heat resistant materials. Glass and metal containers are both great choices when it comes to material, but it all comes down to personal choice when it comes to size and style. One of the most overlooked steps while creating candles is to clean the container itself. This will ensure that your candle container won’t have fingerprints or smudges, and that dust won’t get stuck inside of the candles. For extra protection, try to find a container with a lid. Keeping your candles dust and debris free will create cleaner burning candles!

Pro Tip: You can pre-heat the container your wax is going into to 125 degrees. This will prevent peel away, and give your candles a nicer and more consistent look.

oy wax is a renewable and sustainable resource. On top of being natural and eco-friendly, it’s great for making beautiful candles that have a clean, slow burn. Hearts & Crafts soy wax has a melting point of 120 degrees. While making your candles we recommended that you first heat the wax to 120 degrees in order to prep it. Once it has melted, gently mix it and raise the temperature to 180 degrees.

We recommend using a double-boiler to melt your wax. It prevents the wax from being in direct contact with the source of heat, which helps ensure that it doesn’t burn or overheat.

Pro Tip: If you don’t have a double broiler, just channel your inner DIY spirit. Get a large pot, fill it with water, and then place a heat-proof bowl inside. The boiling water will produce enough heat to thoroughly and safely melt your soy wax.

earts and Crafts Wax Dye Chips will add unique and vibrant colors to your candles. A few chips go a long way, so you can add them gradually and stir it at 180 degrees until you get your desired color. If you see specks of color on the bottom, you may need to turn up the heat slightly to 185 degrees until the dye and wax have thoroughly blended.

Pro Tip: Colors will always appear less saturated before the wax fully sets. Once the wax sets, the colors will be much more vibrant!

ou can add a variety of fragrances to your candles using Hearts & Crafts Essential Oils! Add in fragrance oils to your soy wax only after you have fully mixed in the colors, and your temperature is at 180 degrees. When adding fragrance oils to soy wax candles it is important to remove it from the heat source in order to prevent the oil from evaporating from the mixture, which will lower the potency of the oil. Once the oils have fully mixed in, you can lower the heat down to 150 degrees.

Pro Tip: When adding in fragrances we recommend making a small sample in order to test the intensity of the scent.

ur wicks have a metal tab on the bottom, making it easier to adhere to the bottom of your container. You can use a few drops of melted wax to easily adhere the wicks to the bottom of your containers.

Our kit includes centering devices to keep your wicks in place. Make sure that your wick is properly centered before pouring your wax into the container. Once you’ve made your candle, make sure to cut the wick 1/4th of an inch higher than the candle before lighting it to ensure that it burns slowly and evenly.

Pro Tip: If you don’t have your centering devices handy or don’t have enough for the amount of candles you’re making, you can use a pencil or something similar by winding the top of wick around it to keep it in place.
