Identifying Your DocumentsWhen sending a document, the following information is printed outby the receiving fax: your fax number, your name, and the current date

and time. This information is called your TTI (Transmit TerminalIdentification) and appears at the top of the faxed document in smalltype.

N In the United States, you are required by FCC regulations to include thisinformation every time you send a fax.By identifying the documents you send, the receiving party willrecognize your fax messages at a glance. The illustration below shows asample document with the identifying information.

The top line includes the name of the receiving party if you send thedocument using one-touch speed dialing, coded speed dialing, or groupdialing and you registered the party s name. It also includes the pagenumber.

NYou enter your fax header information in the MultiPASS Fax SetupUtility, which launches automatically after the MultiPASS installation iscomplete. The header information will be printed on the top of youroutgoing faxes. For details on how to enter this information, seeChapter 3, Using the MultiPASS Fax Setup Utility .

Paper HandlingOn e of the most im por tant th ings you can do to assure the best possiblepr inting perform ance of you r MultiPASS is to select the correct paper.

You r MultiPASS produ ces letter quality pr int on m ost plain bondpapers, including cotton b ond and p hotocopying papers; it does notrequire special ink jet papers. However, the print quality varies withdifferent paper types. Be sure to test a type of paper before you pu rchasea large quan tity.

Selecting PaperPlain PaperThe Mu ltiPASS sup por ts paper sizes of letter, legal, and A4 in por traitorientation. You can use regular copier paper, cotton bon d papers, andtypical letterhead. Always use paper withou t curls, folds, staples, ordam aged edges. Copier paper has a preferred side for p rinting. Look atthe label on the package to see which side to prin t on .

Brilliant W hite PaperCanons unique paper formulation gives you a bright white printingsurface that produces incredibly brilliant colors and dark, crisp b lack text. This paper works great for p roposals, color p resentations, colorcharts/graphs, flyers, and newsletters. You can prin t on both sides of the sheet.

Bubble Jet Paper (water resistant)The Canon Bubble Jet Paper has been developed for high qualityprin ting with m inimal or no smearing or run ning when in contact withwater or dam p surfaces, m aking it a good choice for d amp or rainyenvironm ents. The paper is specially coated and prin table on both sides.

Glossy Photo PaperCanon Glossy Pho to Paper is a high gloss, thicker paper that prod ucesthe look and feel of a photograph. Use this paper to prod uce photo-realistic print s from your p rin ter.

Paper GuidelinesWhen selecting or loading paper, please rem ember the following:

Attem pting to print on damp, curled, wrinkled, or torn paper cancause paper jam s and p oor pr int qu ality.

Use cut-sheet p aper on ly. You cann ot use multipart p aper.

When using graph paper, the lines may no t m atch because the1/6-inch line spacing of the prin ter is slightly less than th at of graph p aper.

If the print d ensity of your page is very high, light paper stock maycurl slightly due to the large am oun t of ink. If you n eed to pr intdense graphics, try pr inting on heavier stock. You can also try

lowering the brightness setting on the Color dialog.Do not use thicker paper than meets the specifications for thisprin ter. Printing with a paper that is thick eno ugh to com e incontact with the print head nozzles may damage the BJ cartridge.

Understanding the Printer DriverBefore you can use any type of prin ter with your compu ter, you m ustinstall a pr inter dr iver. The p rinter d river tells the compu ter what kindof a printer you are using. The pr inter driver also con trols the varioussettings, such as pr int qu ality and paper type. You define these settingswithin the printer driver, and th e printer driver then comm un icates thesettings to both the comp uter and the prin ter.

You m ust in stall the Mu ltiPASS Printer Dr iver before you can u se theMultiPASS as a printer for your com pu ter. If you followed theinstructions in your Quick Start Guide, you have already installed th enecessary software. If no t, see you r Quick Start Guide for details on howto install this software.

Printing a DocumentThis procedu re describes the general steps required for p rin ting fromvarious app lication s. The exact steps for prin ting a docum ent m ay varydepend ing on the app lication p rogram (such as Microsoft Word ) youare using. Refer to your software applications docum entation for theexact p rinting p rocedu re.
