Neighborhood “Slow Down” Signs

You have hopefully noticed the roving “Slow Down” signs throughout the Canterbury neighborhood. Thank you to everyone who has volunteered to “host” one in their yard for a couple of weeks. The Canterbury Crime and Safety Committee, with the support of the Canterbury HOA, had the signs printed up in the hopes of getting peoples’ attention and slowing traffic down throughout the neighborhood. With kids home from school for the summer, there are lots of younger folk playing out-side. And the combination of impulsive inattentive kids along with inattentive speeding drivers can be deadly. The legal speed limit is 25 mph in the neighborhood but it might be better to slow down to 20 mph where there are cars parked along the street, blocking the view of kids playing. They can be quick to run out after a ball or toy, or to ride their bike down a driveway, possibly hidden by vegetation, and into the street. Being distracted by your phone, your car’s entertainment system, gps, or anything else could mean no time to react. In a heartbeat all of your lives could be changed forever. And all because you were checking a text message. Or changing a radio station. Or some other meaningless distraction. Not worth it! Take care of all those distractions BEFORE you pull out of your driveway or before you leave to come back home. Let’s continue to keep the streets of Canterbury safe and accident free!

Free Concert August 19th Coming very soon to Chaucer Park, Chris Daniels & The Kings will be returning to perform at the annual Canterbury Summer Concert in the Park on Sunday, August 19th, from 5:00 to 7:30pm. According to Wikipedia, Chris Daniels formed the band in 1984. They play jump blues, funk, R&B, and swing and have also played back up for artists including Bonnie Raitt, The Drifters, and Bo Diddly. The band has released 15 albums and has toured throughout the United States, in addition to doing 21 European tours. They have performed at prestigious festivals, for three US Presidents, and have been featured on a variety of American and European TV shows. And Chris has been induct-ed into the Colorado Music Hall of Fame. You can find out more about Chris Daniels & The Kings on Wikipedia, on their website, www.chrisdaniels.com, and on their Facebook page. Even better, you can experience the band in person by bringing family and friends to the concert on August 19th. In addition to the toe tapping, dance-along-to music, there will be a food truck on hand for you to purchase great tast-ing wood fired pizza. And back by popular demand, Byl, the Balloon Guy, will be making his amazing balloon creations! Bring your chairs and enjoy a great evening with your fam-ily, friends, and neighbors!

The Annual Concert Opens With a New Playground! A new playground is coming to Chaucer Park! The old playground will be closed on July 27th. You will see the current playground equipment being removed during that last week of July. The playground will be taped and closed for a couple of weeks. Foothills Park & Recreation District will be working with a large group of volunteers from the Columbine Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on August 11th to build the new playground. They will be out at the park most of the day, working in three shifts. Please feel free to swing by to check out the progress or help out. The new playground will have its Grand Opening during the Concert in the Park on Sunday afternoon August 19th (5:00 pm to 7:30 pm) and there will be a Foothills representative out in the park to answer any questions. Stay tuned for more improvements coming to the park in 2019! Any question please call Sarah McAfee, Parks Volunteer and Operations Coordinator for Foothills Park & Recreation District, at (303) 409-2317.

anything online - any sort of personal information, pic-tures or videos of yourself. Once you’ve put a picture of yourself online most people can see it and may be able to download it, it’s not just yours anymore.

8. Make sure to backup your data on a regular basis in case something goes wrong. By taking preventative mea-sures, you can save yourself from headaches later on.

9. Log out of sites when you’re done using them. Logging into a site creates a cookie in your browser, which iden-tifies you and, if stolen, can compromise your account. This is especially an issue on sites that hold sensitive information, like your bank account or credit card num-ber, so it’s always best to log out once you’re finished.

10.Don’t forget about your phone! Everything on this list is applicable to all devices that can go online...so your phone, tablet, and all smart devices.

Top 10 Ways to Stay Safe Online Now more than ever, it’s paramount to be aware of the dan-gers that lurk on the internet. Here are the top ten things you can do to keep yourself, and your family, safe online. 1. Keep your software current. If automatic updates are an

option, turn them on. 2. Make your passwords strong and long. Use special

characters where allowed and mix in capital letters. A complete sentence that you can remember typically works well - for example: IlovemydogSpot!. Remember to use a unique password for each of your accounts.

3. Be very wary of what you click on. Delete suspicious emails. Don’t open attachments unless you’re absolute-ly sure they’re safe.

4. Be wary of public Wi-Fi - always assume someone is watching. Only transmit data that you wouldn’t mind being stolen and never enter login details or banking information when connected to public Wi-Fi.

5. Use an ad-blocker: not only does it make pages load faster and remove annoying ads from your online life, it also makes your web browsing experience safer and more private.

6. Clear your cache. Every time you use a browser like Firefox or Chrome, it keeps track of where you’ve been and what you’ve done. Often by default, records of every site you visited and all of your uploads and downloads can be kept for days or even weeks.

7. Privacy is important, think carefully before you share

10 Days of Family Fun in Littleton Whether you lived here all your life or are new to the area, one of the “must dos” of summer around Littleton is Western Welcome Week (WWW)! http://www.westernwelcomeweek.org/ Going into it’s 90th year, WWW offers a big slate of primarily family fun activities, many of which are free! The first day kicks off with a book sale and art shows and then the cook out and free concert and fireworks at Sterne Park – always lots of excitement! South Platte Park and the Carson Nature Center host the free Stampede for Open Space on the 1st Saturday of WWW, this year is August 11. From 9 a.m. to noon that day enjoy old time games, free gold panning, mountain man tales, and learn about and help support open space in our area. Another great WWW event at South Platte Park is the Annual HawkQuest Family Night when that raptor education group brings live birds of prey for education presentations, often with overhead flights! Be sure to have your camera in hand for this nominal fee spectacular, this year on Tuesday evening August 14! The week wraps up with the fun parade through downtown Littleton on the last Saturday, plus a slew of other fun happenings that weekend. Check out the full schedule of events on the WWW website noted above. We hope to see you somewhere having fun during Western Welcome Week! South Platte Park is a natural open space area owned by the City of Littleton and managed by South Suburban Parks and Recreation District with the mission to help our community find meaning and value in natural open space areas through direct positive experiences. For information visit ssprd.org/nature.

The Economy

Consumer prices barely rose in June, but the underlying trend points to inflation. Rising inflation will likely lead to more Fed rate increases and higher rates.

Producer prices rose more than expected in June, another factor pointing to inflation. This jump was

the largest annual increase in 6-1/2 years.

Although trade war concerns have escalated, there's not a lot of fear that this will hurt the economy. In the meantime, mortgage rates have remained stable
