FAREWELL At the end of the year, it is always a sad time when we say farewell to families and staff that have been great contributors. To those families that are leaving us, we wish you well at your new schools. The following staff are also leaving us:

Blake Maxworthy: has accepted a teaching position at Wodonga Sth Primary School. We thank Blake for his efforts with the Prep grade this year and wish him well at his new school.

Jake Simon: has gained a promotion position to Seaford Park Primary School as a maths learning specialist. We thank Jake for his all his work here at Barton but in particular for his leadership in Maths.

Beth Batchelor: has gained a promotion position as a leading teacher at Cranbourne East SC. Beth has been a leader here and as one of our founding teachers assisted in the establishment of our Barton learning culture. We wish Beth all the best for her new role.

Sue Davis: has gained a teaching position at Mornington PS. We thank Sue for her work with the English team and wish her well at her new school.

ULEARN MUSIC

I would like to inform our Parents that unfortunately uLearn Music classes will not be

continuing at Barton Primary School in 2019. Please note that this is not a reflection of

the company. I encourage you to contact uLearn Music directly to enquire

about continuing your child’s music tuition at an alternate venue. It is my intent

that we will possibly be able to continue our relationship with uLearn Music at

Barton Primary School in the future.

WISHING THE BARTON COMMUNITY A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM THE STAFF

AT BARTON PRIMARY SCHOOL ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL’S REPORT – Mark Cooper

Wow! What a term it has been. It has gone so quick but it is a good chance to reflect on what we, as

a school, have achieved in Term 4.

Our students have been engaged in their learning, have received their reports, started their transition

for 2019, shared some great times with their teachers, enjoyed the sporting events, end of year

celebration evening, Grade 6 Graduation, our 2019 Prep Transition and much, much more.

I would like to take this opportunity to say thanks for how you have welcomed me into the Barton

Primary School community. From the students, parents, school council, staff it has been great to get

to know you all and I look forward to working with everyone in 2019.

I would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a safe and Happy New Year.

Goodbye to Prep, Hello Grade One!

The term has just flown by! We are all so proud of the amazing achievements the Preps have

made this year and wish them all the best when they begin Grade 1 next year. Students will have brought home all of the books they have used this year and their art folios. They

loved having a look through all of the work they have done in 2018 and seeing how far their

learning has come. In a special writing folder, you will be able to see how they wrote and drew in

the first week of prep and compare it to the writing and drawing they have been completing

towards the end of the year. Take a moment to look at this with your child to celebrate their

successes.

Look back at some of the students on day one of prep.

We say goodbye to Blake Maxworthy and Sue Davis and wish them all the best as they leave us for

different opportunities at other schools. The other Prep teachers look forward to seeing everyone next

year to hear all about their holidays.

Have a safe and fun holiday and enjoy lots of time with your families.

For the last time,

From the Prep Team (Bronte Wills, Jarryd Foster, Blake Maxworthy, Sue Davis, Emily Roberts, and

Meaghan Mann)

GRADE 1/2

On the 14th December, Barton Primary

School had a Charity Food Drive for

Turning Point Foundation. Families were

asked to kindly donate non-perishable

food items and as a result, students

could come to school with ‘crazy hair’.

We thank the school community for their

kind donations. The children had a lot of

fun seeing their classmates in all sorts of

‘crazy hair’.

On the 13th of December, Barton Primary

School had their Christmas concert

evening. Grades 1B, 12D and 12E

performed a Christmas remix of ‘Santa got

a New Truck’, ‘We’re All in This Together’

and ‘I’m Santa and I Know it’. 1A, 12A, 12B

and 12C performed another Christmas

remix of ‘Santa Claus is Coming’ and ‘Go

Santa, Go’.

We were so proud of the children for their

involvement and enthusiasm on the night.

Selected Grade 6’s participated in a

Leadership Program where they went into

Learning Hub 1 and had an opportunity to

plan and deliver a learning lesson.

They were highly organised, engaging and

the Grade 1/2 students really enjoyed

having the aspiring leaders teach them

interesting content such as coding and

space, just to name a couple.

Thank you Grade 6’s for visiting us!

ENVIRO Students have enjoyed exploring the ways we can generate energy through renewable sources and

this week we looked closely at wind turbines.

Students made their own wind turbines and we were able to test these out and with the windy weather

over the past week, it has been the perfect time to experiment.

The Grade 3/4 students have been working on their letter

writing skills through a persuasive letter writing task to the

Prime Minister. Students have researched the benefits of

renewable energy and have enjoyed writing their arguments

in a formally addressed letter. Students have shared these

letters in class and given feedback to each other. I have been so impressed with the

vocabulary and structure of these letters. The Grade 3/4 students should be congratulated on

their efforts with this task, including providing and receiving feedback which is an important

part of our learning.

During the holiday period there is normally an increase in rubbish and food waste, here are some tips for reducing the impact on our environment.

1. Make sure you have recycling bins ready to go. Remember cans, glass and plastic bottles

can be recycled and you may even end up drinking from the same bottle or can next year –

how cool would that be!

2. Paper plates, cups and napkins can’t be recycled but they are often biodegradable, check

the package when buying them and you may be able to compost them.

3. While wrapping paper is pretty, unfortunately it cannot be recycled. You can reuse this next

year to wrap up gifts so don’t throw it away. If you enjoy drawing or scrap booking wrapping

paper makes a wonderful addition to your craft box. Alternatives to wrapping paper are

newspaper, tea towels or recycled fabric!

4. Remember to place left over food in the fridge to heat and eat another day. When you have

eaten enough left overs you can place most food in the compost bin. Then the worms can

have a Merry Christmas too!
