From railway infrastructure to control and signalling systems, Morson Projects improve the

supervision, control and safe operation of the transport networks. Morson Projects assess

the condition and life expectancy of high value capital assets of land based transportation

systems. Morson Projects also supports the aerospace industry with the production of tools

and testing systems needed to build the latest aircraft and engine systems.

Morson Projects cover the transportation facility lifecycle, from planning and environmental

studies to preliminary and final design, construction administration, and operations and

rehabilitation. We work closely with our clients to ensure that every project delivers results

Our highly skilled and committed technical staff are able to deliver complex automation

At the heart of any process, the safety critical SCADA system must be meticulously planned

and flawlessly implemented. With decades of experience in the field, Ematics have a proven

record delivering custom built and off-the-shelf based SCADA packages to multiple safety

Ematics can upgrade or replace your existing legacy networks with modern IP solutions, as

Morson Projects has experience of Design Engineering, Installation and Commissioning of

both primary and secondary electrical systems including switchgear, circuit breakers,

Switchgear and control panel design, procurement and build; Installation and testing

capabilities, with a proven track record of new build, integration of new and existing

switchgear, protection refurbishments, SF6 handling and testing, fully structured and

phased site-work packages, TP141 commissioning engineers; Post-installation services

Site services cover the Installation and Commissioning of transformers, switchgear and

protection relay panels for transmission and distribution power systems up to 400kV

including gas insulated and open terminal equipment.

Commissioning of Multifunctional IED Relays is carried out utilising the latest computer

controlled 3 phase test sets to digitally generate high accuracy test signals.

Morson Projects provide engineers who are National Grid competent personnel, capabilities

include: Project Management, Interface circuit design, layout/Space management Design,

Site Management, CDM Application, Risk Assessments and Method Statements, Installation

& Commissioning of substation primary equipment, 'Light current' wiring modification and

installation work, Installation, glanding, and termination of multi-core/pair cable.

Morson Projects Control, Electrical and Instrumentation team is centred on a formidable

team of dedicated engineers, designers and draughtsmen. This provides our clients with a

flexible outsourced solution, capable of delivering complex, challenging, high and low

voltage design projects.

The group provides initial concepts, through to production of drawings and documentation,

to commissioning and testing.

The Control, Electrical and Instrumentation team includes the provision of designs for

Building Services (power, lighting and heating), Motor Control Centres, Switch Rooms, and

Process Control including microprocessor systems (PLC).

This includes front end design, detail design, manufacture, optioneering and plant layouts in

both Mechanical and Control, Electrical and Instrumentation disciplines, as well as design

support during plant installation and commissioning.


Expertise and experience is available for design development and construction detail of new

facilities and infrastructure as well as for the modification and adaptation of existing

facilities and infrastructure. Aerospace, Construction, Defence, General Engineering,

Oil/Gas/Process, Property Development, Naval, Nuclear, Scientific, Transportation, and

Utilities sectors are catered for in regard of this expertise and experience.

A capable team of engineers, technicians and modellers is available to carry out all aspects

of the necessary civil and structural engineering work within the various construction

engineering fields. We employ industry standard and innovative software packages and

techniques.

There is also considerable expertise and experience available to advise in more specialist

areas including design in Structural Aluminium Alloys and Carbon Fibre, Forensic

Engineering and Expert Witness, Laser Scanning and intelligent interpretation of Point

Cloud, Specialist Hydraulics, Seismic considerations, Temporary/Mobile Structures and

Temporary Works Design and Co-ordination.

BIM (VDC) capability is available in order to collaborate with other AEC disciplines in the

effective and efficient design of a project in 3D and 4D. In addition, at the appropriate

stages within the workflow, a 5D capability can be developed using the central model to

generate quantities and cost estimates so that comparisons to the budgetary requirements

can be examined. Further, at the close out of a project, a 6D design capability can be made

available incorporating project life cycle management information into the central model by

adding product data and details, maintenance/operation manuals, specifications, photos,

warranty data and the like in order to enhance the efficient operation and FM of the

finished facility.

We are very able using various modelling and design packages including AVEVA PDMS,

Dassault Systèmes CATIA, Bentley STAAD Pro as well as the Autodesk suite of products

including AutoCAD, Inventor, Navisworks and Revit. Development and continuous

improvement of our modelling techniques and protocols is high on our agenda.

Morson Projects Asset Care team are aligned with the key elements of the WANO peer

review performance objectives and the Sellafield Limited Disciplined Operations and

Maintenance manuals. The quality of our services are based on PAS 55, the British Standard

for Asset Management and the methodologies set out in RR509, the Health and Safety

Morson Projects now boasts an in-house Software Development team of over 40 highly

experienced engineers. These engineers are currently deployed on work packages

associated with mission planning software development and also engine control software

development. Figure 1 shows Morson Projects current Software Processes and Capabilities.

The Morson Projects Stress Analysis team consists of multi-disciplined engineering

specialists. It is one of the largest stress and structural analysis teams in the UK. It provides

support to the Morson Projects core capability and project groups delivering a

comprehensive structural analysis service. Tasks undertaken include static (linear and non-

linear) analysis, fatigue & damage tolerance through to multi-body dynamics.

Within the team are specialists with extensive experience in the design and assessment of:

Process equipment and pipelines

Analysis considers current design codes utilising the latest versions of software packages

including: PATRAN, NASTRAN, ABAQUS, ANSYS, NASGRO, CAESAR II, MATHCAD and PSA5.


The team prides itself in working closely with clients to develop solutions to technical

problems that are cost effective. The strong project management ethos ensures that

projects run as planned.

The team operates in a quality assured environment, with state of the art engineering tools

and continues to provide a complete analytical solution.

Morson Projects Tooling Design and Manufacturing department is built around a core team

that specialises in the complete project management of complex tooling projects for clients

across many industries.

The experience and skills retained within the team is demonstrated by the diverse range of

projects undertaken in the following industries: Aerospace, Automotive and General

Engineering.

Morson Projects utilise ISO and client approved tooling manufacturers, supported by the

department's project engineers who manage the manufacture, delivery, installation, and

documentation throughout the product lifecycle.

The Tooling team delivers solutions to industry including: major assembly jigs for wing,

fuselage, and flight control surfaces, test rigs, general machine shop tooling for aerospace &

non-aerospace components, special purpose machine design, automotive transfer lines,

operational tooling, composite aircraft tooling, aircraft and industrial turbine blade tooling.

The Project Management team comprises of professional project managers that utilises a

Prince 2 based system for the planning, organising and the managing of resources to achieve

the successful completion of project goals and objectives. The team manages the project

from design to implementation, and interfaces with the client until the project is completed

and accepted by the client.

Morson Project recognises that the success of any project depends upon the presence of a

robust project management structure. In recent years, Morson Project has made

considerable investment in personnel, infrastructure and systems to improve its project

management capabilities.

Morson Projects has developed its own bespoke management toolsets covering cost

control, HR, document control, programme & portfolio management, and these toolsets are


subject to continuous improvement including lessons learned. The next phase of

development is the integration of the systems into a single enterprise solution providing

instant access and reporting for the project and senior managers, and also secure access for

the client to enable them to view the project metrics remotely.

Transport for Greater Manchester (TFGM)


Morson Projects were asked to survey a section of a tram depot for TFGM using UAV Drone

technology for the purposes of site safety awareness requirements. Our CAA Licensed drone

operator flew over the site taking numerous photographs and video. Using sophisticated

Photogrammetry software, images were converted into an accurate 3D Model. This

optimized model was then imported into a Game Engine, and interactivity made possible.

The resulting application is a fully immersive 3d environment, which is simply navigated by

either a mouse or an Xbox controller.

Tunnel individual control systems and the implementation of a single unified SCADA/PLC

system providing overall and tunnel subsystem integration with control and status

monitoring of the electrical distribution network, ventilation, control network, air quality
